Haze is never coming to Xbox 360: PS3 fanboys rejoice! photo

According to Ubisoft, the nectar-sucking first person shooter Haze is going to remain a PS3 exclusive for all time. It was expected to be a timed exclusive, but Ubisoft reps are now saying it will "never" go to another console. Those who want to play the adventures of Mr. Lightbulb Head will have no joy on the Xbox 360.

The decision is said to be recent, but definite. So far, no official announcement has been made, but the reps were apparently very sure of themselves, so I guess we can expect to hear something soon. By all accounts, it sounds like Haze is going to be a solid exclusive for the PS3, as the console gathers more steam.

Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that this game will suck. Hard.

I think (but don't hope) that's the reason it's not a timed exclusive. Please let me be wrong

I really hope this game doesn't suck as the story behind it I find interesting. That and the co-op play has got me jazzed.

All the media I have seen in Haze make it look like another run of the mill shooter. The MP looked horrible! So why does anyone care what platform this game comes out on?

Wow, this game must be really bad if Ubisoft are cutting budgets so hard the team in charge can't even afford a multi console release. I mean seriously, if this game was half decent, why wouldn’t Ubisoft release it on both? We’re not talking about Insomniac or something here.
BlindsideDork's Avatar

OK, I just DON'T want it to suck....

And about the 360 dev kit, it is made by UBISOFT. They have other platform Dev kits laying around and they did originally plan to release it for the 360 but it was halted.

*laughs at obvious "this game is gonna suck" posts*

I think you guys are forgetting just who the guys are who are behind this game. A little group called Free Radical. You know, the ones behind Timesplitters, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, etc. You guys don't "think" it will suck. You "want" it to suck because you still believe "it's stupid to make a PS3 exclusive. You're ignoring the HUGE Xbox install base" even though that logic doesn't apply to any 360 exclusive.

On topic:

This is old news. Ubisoft said that 360 and PC development were canned all the way back in August.

That could be the case...or not at all. Maybe Sony paid Ubisoft for an exclusive? They have money and an exclusive title couldn't hurt Sony.

Think about it for one second...They are hyping the online features for a game that is gonna be released to a platform that has a piss poor online community.

Have you ever played online on the PS3? I have and it is really poor compared with PC and XBL. Why make a game like this and then release it on the PS3 only? It's like making a great games with motion controls but only releasing it on the 360 instead of the Wii.
KingMe's Avatar
KingMe at 03/17/2008 10:42

Bioshock was more than "half decent" and it only landed on 360. No More Heroes was more than "half decent" and it only landed on Wii. Why bash this one because it's a PS3 game?
MrSadistic's Avatar
MrSadistic at 03/17/2008 10:43
Just because it was made by Free Radical, whose Timesplitters games have been either hit or miss by the way, doesn't mean it's automatically going to be a great game.

Piss poor? Have you played Resistance? Warhawk? COD4? The only "piss poor" online is for the Wii, because it only takes Wi-fi, and those connections can get disturbed. However, games on PSN play just fine. Have you played UT3? I mean, I could keep going on

I played Warhawk for the first time this weekend and my only problem with the online was lack of access to friend's list and I have to click the Left Stick to talk. Other than that it is a charm with NO lag whatsoever! And the chat thingy is coming in a future update.

It isn't horrible.

I hope this game rocks. I hope this game turns out to be more than a generic FPS. No i don't own a PS3 (wii60 here), but it would be nice to have game to look out for on the PS3 when i eventually buy one (when the price comes down ALOT, or there's 5 games i'd buy the system for).
KingMe's Avatar
KingMe at 03/17/2008 10:48
@MrSadistic

I know it won't "automatically be good" but people are already giving this game the shaft, even though it's made by a proven developer. It's like me saying "GTAIV is going to suck, even though I enjoyed everything else Rockstar has done" or "Bioshock 2 is going to suck even though 2K makes great games"

The criticism this game is getting SHOULD be going to the more hyped Killzone 2, because Guerilla Games are the ones people should be worrying about, not Free Radical
Boolean's Avatar
Boolean at 03/17/2008 10:48
@ Kingme:

No more heroes could barely afford to release on the Wii as it was. Bioshock was released when the PS3 install base was still rather low, although I don't know why they don't port it now.

"because it only takes Wi-fi, and those connections can get disturbed."

What? 0.o

The cheesy trailer, and the fact that Korn was commissioned to write a song for the game, leads me to believe that I do not belong to the targeted demographic for Haze.

KingMe's Avatar

@Boolean

What I meant by that is that Wi-fi connections are inherently unstable, especially for online gaming. An online game on the Wii will probably time out more often than a PSN/XBL game would not due to server problems, but simple internet connection. Unless of course your router is RIGHT next to the Wii, but even still, you have to open up ports, turn off the DMZ, mess with the firewall, etc.

And how could you say that Ubisoft had barely enough money to put the game on Wii. It's UBISOFT!!! And with low Wii production costs, that just makes the game look all the more cheaper, albeit, it was a great game. But do agree with you, I don't know why 2K won't port Bioshock 1 now...."M$ moneyhat*

I've stated my position before and I'll state it again. Only reason Haze is getting any kind of recognition is that it is exclusive to one console. Also, the entire game premise is based on a fighters guild mission in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

Sounds like I won't be playing Haze. My only interest was in the 4 player co-op and since no one I would play co-op with owns a PS3 there's no point in getting it. If Gamestop in the US does the trade-in deal where you can trade it back in for a full refund I might give it a try.

It's kind of an odd game for Sony to have paid exclusive rights for. Timed exclusive is one thing, but permanently? They had to have given Ubi a big chunk of change considering whatever it sells on PS3 the 360 would've matched and exceeded by probably 20-25%. That's a lot of lost sales.

You can't trust Ubi though, they also played this game with Assassin's Creed. After Capcom swore RE4 would never release on another system (and then announced it for PS2 before the GC version even released) I never trust when publishers claim something will always be exclusive.

'they can only release it on one system? its gonna suck'

you people are terrible. the game isnt out yet- we see chunks of footage and fragments of info and people think thats enough to judge how good a game is. not one of you (OR ANYONE IN THE WORLD) has played this game from start to finish to properly assess the games worthiness. i for one will be seriously considering picking up this game, because what ive seen looks good. i wont make any judgements until AFTER its released, NOT before.

Why can't everything just come out on the 360 like it should. I don't want to buy a Wii just for Brawl, or a PS3 just for Haze. Free Radical rocks pretty hard, wish I had more money :(

Rash and early judgements is what the internet is all about. See a title and a few words to describe it? RATE IT! Who cares, you are probably right. Game not on your console of choice? RATE IT!

I am interested in playing this and I got some people that I can do Co-Op with. Co-Op can make some of the worst games *cough*Army of Two*cough* at least somewhat enjoyable.

I had a quick go but from what I played I thought the game was rubbish.... but the again I was probably crap at it.... I think I'm going to pass on this and wait for the next Timesplitters game

They also use wi-fi, however when they do, there are more drops/lag/etc. Now, if you make that MANDATORY, which with the Wii it is, then you can say that the online is crappier. The servers/service/whatever of Wii online itsself isn't too bad, although I find friend codes kind of dumb, the fact that the way you HAVE to connect to said service is unstable makes the overall experience less fun
