Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin' is a surreal comedy series made by Anthony and Ashly Burch. They do a (semi) weekly podcast.
Don't worry, this week's HAWPcast (click the iTunes button on the right side of the page if you want to get it that way) is not another commentary episode.
If we're all terribly lucky, this will be the last Doctor Who-related HAWPcast for a long, long, long time. That said, Ash and I could not, in good conscience, record another podcast without at least discussing The End of Time and the Tenth Doctor's departure.
We do, at the very least, discuss videogames when we aren't completely nerding the f*ck out about sci-fi shows that don't really matter. Half-Life, Portal, and BioShock are discussed in some detail. Emphasis on some.
Oh, and listener questions. Lots of listener questions.
Discuss.
You've opened Hell's gates.
No I'm actually being very serious. I don't wanna find out I wanna hear it from the mouths of nerds.
Longest running sci-fi show ever (since 1963), british, awesome. It's basically about a 900 years old alien who travels in time in a poilice box. He's called "The Doctor" NOT "Doctor Who". And he can regenerate when near death, but his appearence changes. And he always travels with someone.
You should watch it, it's worth it.
Also, I cannot judge this Matt Smith until I see some episodes of the new season. I remember when Who came back and started off with Christopher Eccleston and suddenly after one season David Tennant came and replaced him. I was furious and SO very determined to hate him. Obviously it's impossible to hate the man.
Doctor Who is a show that has survived since the 60's and is one of the very few show's that come to mind that manages to keep going regardless of how many times the main character changes face. With Steven Moffat being the new showrunner, I have little to no doubt that good things are coming (the man has never written a bad episode of Who, at least I think)
Huh. Would've never guessed at all. I might check it out. If it's anything like Star Trek or Quantum Leap it's a new thing I can be closet nerdy for.
That said, I can never get enough Half Life/Portal/Bioshock talk, so we're all good.
Start with the new series (2005). It's the same continuity, but it introduces all the important concepts to new viewers, plus it's awesome. After you watch it, go check the classic series, it kicks ass too (my avatar, for example, is the 4th Doctor, from the classic series).
Thanks. I was definitely about to start with the 60's one.
However it is Doctor Who and of course I could never NOT watch it. Also, through my...er...circumstances I can confirm that Matt Smith is fucking awesome.
