Havok set to power Fable 2

Havok set to power Fable 2 photo

Whether you were disappointed by the original Fable or not, you have to admit it was a more-than-decent game for the Xbox. The only thing that ruined it for some was the incredible hype that surrounded it -- mostly caused by creater Peter Molyneux. Did Lionhead learn their lesson this time around? Probably not. But, with the help of Havok, maybe, just maybe, Fable 2 for the Xbox 360 will live up to expectations -- if there are any.

News straight from Havok was announced today:

Havok, the premier provider of interactive software and services to digital creators in the games and movie industries, announces today that Lionhead Studios, creators of the block-buster, Fable, have licensed Havok Complete, the market-leading physics and animation solution, for use in Fable 2

What did Peter have to say? Well look:

"Using Havok’s technology means that we don’t have to worry about finding an efficient way to do all the complex physics calculations ourselves that are required to create a huge, vibrant, real time and persistent virtual world such as the one we’re creating for Fable 2. By using Havok, we bypass a lot of the heavy physics maths and concentrate our teams more on the creative and innovative elements of the game."

I don't really care what the haters say, I liked Fable and I've been one of many really looking forward to the sequel. I can only hope the hype train ain't so fast this time around.

Yeah I loved Fable. It was a great game... gave such a good sense of freedom in a wonderful RPG enviornment. I look forward to Fable 2.

Indeed, Fable was one of my favorite Xbox games. And it's one of the few RPGs that I actually like.

Fable was good, and some of the expected features of Fable 2 sound good. But they need to disconnect the aging system from the level up system. I hated how my guy got old just cos he learnt how to swing a sword harder.

I was disappointed with Fable, big time. It was fun for a while but the fighting was atrocious and then you get to that arena...oh my, that was god-awful, I stopped playing and returned it.

I liked Fable but then again, I didn't listen to any of the hype at all.

I'm another who enjoyed Fable.

It was way too short though.

looking back on the shortcomings of the first game, physics are the last thing that come to my mind.

didn't play too much of it, tho. got pure devil / complete saint rep, bought a house, massacred all the townsfolk i could find and got rid of the game altogether.

hope they get this fable shit out of the way quick and make me a Syndicate sequel, asa-friggin-p

Everything should have ragdoll physics. Everything.

I loved Fable; it was the only Xbox game I ever got into. (I never owned an Xbox, but my roommate had one.)

People are projecting way too much expectations to Havok. Or so I feel, it's just a physics engine, sure it is used in most parts for interacting with the surroundings and giving mass and weight to the objects in the game world.

But it still needs a proper game to be implemented in to until it pays off. And having not seen anything from Fable 2 I'm just not that impressed, now it only means that there are some weird ass positions the enemies are going to be when they die (i.e. NOT NATURAL LOOKING) and a gravity gun/spell.

Cheap way to make people like your game I would say, good going Peter "fucks all his games up as of late" Molyneux.

If I get drunk in the game I expect to smash a Beer bottle over someone's head with real world physics.
