Having issues with Crackdown online? (update) photo

[Update 2: OK, everything seems to be in order. It must have been an isolated issue this morning, but as of right now, the game works fine online -- though to be honest it is laggy and sluggish at points. Move along, nothing to see here.]

The biggest appeal to Crackdown was not only the promise of Halo 3, but also the kick-ass co-op that was included. For a few weeks, some of us have had the game and have been playing online -- enjoying the hell out of it too. Well, Microsoft has just released a patch that was scheduled to be out at launch to fix some stuttering problems that popped up.

But did that patch break online play? Here's what we've seen so far when trying to get online:

  • When you try start a game and have a friend join you, what is happening is pretty much nothing. If you're lucky, you may see an error message that says, "Due to network problems, unable to connect to other player's system at this time."
  • If you go to the dashboard and try to join a game in progress, then nothing happens.

Is Microsoft feeling the hurt from a massive amount of people trying to connect to Crackdown at once? We've tried to get in touch with Microsoft about the issue and we'll update as we learn more of this issue. Is anyone else having problems today playing online?

[Update: OK, we already have a response from Microsoft. They said they are aware of the issues some are having and have had. They are currently investigating the problems and hope to have some kind of answer to us shortly. Stay tuned.]

Ugh maybe I shouldn't have downloaded the damn update. I haven't tried online yet, hoping to tonight, but I thought it fixed lag issues? I think the overload on the system might just be it....Crackdown fans and Halo 3 hopefuls all at once bombarding the system.

No doubt it will be fixed shortly. Luckily it isn't even out here yet, so I don't have to be tortured by this. I just have to be tortured for another 2 days until I can get my hands on it.

I played last night with my brother. Didn't notice any weird buggy issues, but a couple annoying things:

- When I went to join his game already in progress, it ended up kicking him back to the Keep. I assumed he would be able to just continue what he was doing, while I would start at the Keep and just drive over to him...not the case.

- He was the one hosting, and for some reason my map didn't show the supply points, but his did. This is the more annoying of the two, hopefully they'll fix it soon.

1 - He might be somewhere in the game that he has to go back to the keep in order for you to join, because of the game differences.

2 - He has more Supply Rooms than you.

Gotta catch 'em all!

wait...

This exact thin has happened to me since I bought the game. I do agree that MS will probably have a patch shortly but it is truly annoying that I have to struggle to play online and sometimes get kicked off due to network problems that I'm not actually having.

@ madcow:

When you join someone's game, it prompts you first to make sure it's okay. Then, it saves your game, and kicks you out to the main menu. You can start at any supply point you want, but if you don't have any, you'll obviously be back at the Keep.

@ Summa:

The one time I had an issue with a friend joining me was fixed when I switched around my 360's IP address and changed a couple ports and QoS (Quality of Service) options. That took my NAT connection (essential for P2P gameplay, doesn't affect lag at all) from Moderate to Open, which is what everyone should shoot for. My guess is that my buddy had a Moderate or Severe connection, and the server was being picky.

After I had an Open NAT, I had no problem joining three other friends' games (nothing like using their Los Muertos city to level when yours is almost cleared out).

Haha, nice pic joey, wtf.... anyways, i played about 6 hours of CD last night and all i noticed was that sometimes if we failed at killing one of the smaller bosses ( we play on psychotic) that we would have to reload at a supply point just to be able to take another crack at killing him/her.

I also noticed quite a bit of lag too. Last night we got level 4 agility and climbed to the top of the keep needle and when we were getting almost to the peak, it got really bad with lag, but i think it was more due to the fact that we could see the whole map and it was loading all that crap. BTW, climb the keep, its teh best. Jump off into the water and you get an avhievement, its pretty sweet.

The supply point thing in co-op...the one in particular that I couldn't see on my map, I did already claim it..so it still should have been on my map. Don't they show up anyway, so you can find them in the first place?

Yeah, you can see them flashing on the map on your HUD.

I went into my friend's game last night, and had all six supply points, even though she just started the game. Must've just been a hiccup on your game...?

@Lethal
I saw the supply points on the map just fine when I played single player. I'll see if it happens again the next time I'm causing massive co-op mayhem. Hopefully it was just a hiccup.

I would like to add, that despite this game's lack of story and potentially short length, it is breathtakingly fun and awesome to explore. Since we never got the big second island of Los Muertos available to us in the demo, that was the first place I went exploring yesterday. Found the sniper guy in the light house and in the middle of fighting him, I saw a ? orb below a crane head. I jumped at it, and FELL into a ginormous cavern, full of other crap to explore. Very well done. Most times that hole would've been just shallow enough to jump out of, and instead it lead to an alternate path to the sniper I NEVER would've gone looking for on my own. Fucking amazing.

Anyone having trouble with boss fights should spend more time running the outskirts of where they need to go to look for a less direct method of entry.

I accidentally found myself in the hanging around Wang's base last night with projectiles shooting straight at my face. It was very exciting and make for very much explosion times.

(was there too much homoerotic subtext in that last paragraph?)

I can't wait for my friend to get his copy. I guess I could mail it to him. That'd help things along.

My only complaint about the game? Could they have had a worse music selection for the game? I don't really dig on the 1/2 latino rap playlist they gave us. I'm not asking for emo-alterna-crap music, just something a bit more varied than "Tejano Rap"/German Industrial Genero-crap/Japanese Boy Band rap. And possibly something from an artist I've heard of.
