     DO WANT

While not exactly brimming with details when they shot one over our bow concerning what we can actually expect from their soon to be released firmware update, Sony was at least kind enough to give us fair warning. In yesterday's entry of the PlayStation blog, Eric Lempel (Director of PlayStation Network Operations) gave us the virtual "heads up" that version 2.01 shall fall down upon our feet in the next couple of days.

The good news is that it will further stabilize the beast that is the PlayStation 3. As you may have heard, the last update was a source of frustration for some. The bad news is, the update is unlikely to have those Xbox Live-esque features of in-game XBM support and messaging that we've been clamoring for. We'd all like to think that Sony has something more up their sleeve, but at this point, I think there are many of you out there that would gladly settle for some relief from the last update -- that caused a few surprise cases of console frostbite, without warning.

A 2.01 update is NOT going to relate to Home. It's bug fixes. I doubt it would even contain MPEG 4 part 2 functionality unless it was there already but disabled pending DivX certification.

Maybe it has something to do with the Assassin's Creed freeze/tear glitches on PS3? A number of [url=http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/5191065806/p/1]those affected]/url] were using 2.0.

I don't think I've ever nailed the first bbcode of the day. Stupid fingers.

If they had more XBM type things, they'd just be accused of stealing. :/

Yeah, most likely its a bugkiller. Hopefully it´ll repair the freeze frame, and a demo of MGS 4 as an apology from the crapheads of Sony...

Maybe it will introduce actually useful and noticable features of some kind.

Anyone here remember a time before firmware updates for consoles? The way you shipped it was the way it was. If you rushed out a shit system, you were stuck with a shit system(Saturn anyone?). This just, to me, seems to be Sony admitting they made a PoS and are adding bandages to stop it from hemeraging. Put a fork in it, it's done. Seems to be good for nothing more than Blu-Ray movies(for all 12 ppl that own a Blu-Ray movie) and Folding@home.

I guess a Assassins Creed Update would be welcomed. Though I hope they fix the BS3 system freezes too.

I haven't experienced any since updating, but I don't want no Disc Read Errors PERIOD. * Ashamed @ Sony *

I've had two freezes so far, both of which occurred when shifting from one major scene to another, rather than in the middle of gameplay. That's after quicksaves, so thankfully it doesn't really ruin the experience for me.

Unfortunately, this very loudly points out the problems with game consoles becoming more like personal computers. I'd rather not have in-game system functionality if I have to trade stability and consistency of performance.

I hope they fix the iPod classic crash issue that just came about with the v2.0 update. Streaming music from my laptop is working just fine, but it’s really annoying that the songs are listed in alphabetical (as opposed to track #) order. Otherwise, I haven’t had any problems at all.

I like Xbox 360 with their Spring and Fall updates much more. It almost seems that every time I turn on my PS3 (happens about every other week or so) I get a new mandatory firmware update...?

imagine this. an internet software folder with linux n sony working together to make the ps3 take any kind of software compatible with linux without having linux that means being able to download limewire, java, itunes, msn, yahoo etc.or have the decency to have linux available at the playstation store for free. i mean when u think about it every computer has that much of a deal right?
