Hey everyone! It's wild speculation time, sponsored by Nintendo.
So, the Big N sent out this vague tease which reads in its entirety, "The legacy began ... more than ten years ago." I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean, but it doesn't mean that I can't flail madly about screaming about how awesome it would be for Nintendo to develop another neglected IP back to life.
But it begs a question: What game could they possibly be getting us excited about. A quick scan of games from within a window of roughly ten to seventeen years (any longer than that, I'd expect them to say, "nearly twenty years ago") yields some possibilities. StarTropics hit the scene around that time, but I don't believe the series is popular enough to build the sort of anticipation this statement seems to convey.
Some are guessing that this could relate to the already announced arrival of Super Smash Bros. I don't see that as being too viable either. We've already had Brawl and the massive Smash Dojo campaign. Why not just toss it into the Wii-kly update and be done with it?
No, if I had to guess, my money would be on Star Fox. Just a hunch, but it's a popular enough series to have warranted a priority release on the GameCube (however poor a decision that turned out to be). The timing feels right to me. I suppose Nintendo will drop some other little nugget right about the time I forget that this one existed.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

First of all, the last game in the franchise, Super Punch-Out, was released back in the mid 90s. Secondly, the new Wii remake of Punch-Out is coming out in two months so Nintendo's probably starting to build more hype for the game especially since Punch-Out most likely won't be shown at E3 since it will be released before then.
Although the game might make an appearance at GDC event in late March.
Let's get back to basics please. Do want another StarFox 64.
As for this could be somthing to do with pokemon but I think maybe starfox too.
Is that mohawk robot thing part of Nintendo's announcement, or is it a Destructoid modification?
If it's part of Nintendo's announcement, the logical conclusion would be something sci-fi, and what sci-fi legacy began more than 10 years ago?
On one hand, Nintendo did begin their Star Fox and EarthBound franchises more than 10 years ago, and not much more than 10 years ago (unlike, say, Metroid), but that robot thing doesn't look like anything out of Star Fox or EarthBound. (Or Metroid, for that matter.)
Or I might just be jumping to conclusions, because I don't know where that robot thing is from.
whatever his name is
I got your joke, Conrad!
Anyway, my guess is for a Wii Pokemon game. And this time, it'll actually be a traditional "Pokemon" game instead of just some stupid supplement to the portable versions. The "legacy" began 11-12 years ago so it's about right. Also, Diamond comes out soon, so it's about time to announce the next step for the series.
Star Fox was over 15 years ago so I'd say it's out. And StarTropics isn't even close to possible as it came out in 1990, though it's THE old series I'd most like to see ressurected.
StarFox would be just as cool.
It's a pity it's so unlikely that's going to happen. Still, with A Boy and his Blob hitting the remake scene, I've got my fingers crossed...
I would be extremely happy is this was:
- EarthBound
- Startropics
- 3D rendered Ice Climber game for DS
- Kid Icarus
- FZero
- Donkey Kong Country 4
And for predictable and probably disappointing possibilities, which some of them ae stuff we already knew, we could get:
- Pokemon Platinum
- Pinball
- The Legend of Zelda (don't get me wrong, what I mean is "oh we are making another Zelda fyi")
- Punch-Out Wii announcement
- Mario Party 9
