Harmonix not-so-subtly hints at Green Day in Rock Band photo

Regardless of your opinion of Green Day’s music, I think it’s safe to say that their songs (especially, say, Dookie-era stuff) would be pretty damn fun to play in Rock Band. Personally, I’m a huge fan, and the growing chatter regarding their appearance in the game (or perhaps even a standalone Green Day title) has now reached fever pitch.

Yesterday, fresh off of their coming-out party at E3, Harmonix brought out The Beatles: Rock Band at MTV HQ in Times Square, New York. MTV employees were able to sing, harmonize, and play along with such classics as “Day Tripper” and “I Saw Her Standing There.” During the demo, MTV Multiplayer’s Russ Frushtick interviewed debonair Harmonix PR man John Drake, and asked specifically about the possibility of Green Day making its way to Rock Band. Hit the jump to find out what happened next!

Note: Due to MTV restrictions, the video is only viewable by users in the United States, so here’s a transcript of the interview for you international residents:

Drake: Yeah, we have -- we have some really great artists that we’re working with on a lot of fronts for Rock Band in the future, and we’re going to be talking more about that coming soon.

Frushtick: So nothing to say about Green Day: Rock Band?

Drake: No, but Green Day’s really, really great! Wouldn’t you love to see Green Day in Rock Band?

Frushtick: I would love to see--

Drake: I would also love to see Green Day in Rock Band! Hopefully we’ll have some official news soon.

Oh, John, you sly dog, you. Here’s hoping that the phrase “Green Day in Rock Band” merely means Green Day DLC (or even something in the vein of AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack) and not a full game, because, well, let’s leave the franchise whoring to Activision, shall we?

For more John Drake goodness (he’s not a “pudgeasaurus,” kids -- how dare you!), check out Nick Chester’s behind-the-scenes video interview with him from E3. And if you want to read more about The Beatles: Rock Band, I’ll have some impressions coming up soon.

I've tried to like green day but I can't get past the fact that they try too hard to be rebels. To me they sound like generic, cookie cutter, wanna be rebels.

They just don't have any soul to there music. I don't mean soul as the genre but soul as in that thing you can't describe but you know it's there and you respect it.

Dookie, insomniac, and kerplunk are amazing albums, but goddamn they have a knack for looking like the biggest douches ever in press photos.

I'm in the same camp as able_to_think, i've never been able to grasp Green Day. Everything they do feels very forced and it doesn't mesh with me... Green Day's the John Cena of music... if you get the comparison.

Drake is either a very excited man or just rude, he wouldn't even let that other guy finish his sentences. Anyway, I dislike Green Day when it comes to their rebel image, but I'd be lying if I said they didn't release a few alright songs.

Ew gross, Green Day. I live in their hometown, and they are yucky music.

Green Day haven't been good for a decade. Please don't make this game... my sister will want it.

I would also love to see-- a GOOD band being featured in Rock Band. Not some overplayed wal-mart band. Much like Rockband AC/DC dissapointed me greatly. Don't get me wrong... Green Day was great... IN THE '90s. Dookie was a good album, but they have since gone downhill.

I will purchase a dookie album with all the ms points I can buy. Other than that, meh.

I think you have to have some respect for a band that can remain near the top for this long though, Dookie was over 15 years ago. And they're still touring. Granted I wouldn't go to a concert, but respect.

Blech. I'm not saying a band can't make money and still be good, I'm just saying Green Day just... I mean.. you guys are like 35! LET IT GO.

@nickchester fair enough. Also, question: Is it possible to be rude/cut off someone as abusable as Russ Frushtick? He just begs to be interrupted...(also, he's the new guy at MTV and they just give him a camera. Wtf is that about?)

Actually Samit, the fun of their music would really depend on the song. I see many of them being either boring (just too easy in the GH/RB format) or bloody frustrating (like some of the damn Offspring songs, give me a real guitar any day for those).

Well, ok, that only applies to guitar. Bass would probably be straight up boring, but that applies to 80% of songs on the game already. Drums would be pretty good, and singing would be fun enough I guess. Its nice to know the words to a song already (like em or not, Green Day get in your head).

Green Day: love the music; loathe the band image. I mean have you ever seen such a blatant image sell out? That being said, Green Day DLC will be peachy.

I just dont know if it was titled "Early Green Day: Rock Band" I may start thinking about buying it, but if it shows the first sign of that boy-band wanna be depressing thing than I am not even coming near to it.

Considering I don't really play Rock Band except when friends are over, I could care less. But everytime I see a picture of that band, I throw up in my mouth a little. Die Green Day, just fucking Die!

I like Green Day. But I think they should release It's Alive (album) by the Ramones as DLC first. And seriously Billy Joe, lose the eye shadow.
