Nothing is worse on a red-eyed, dazed morning than realizing that the previous night’s escapades with the Rock Band drum set have yielded a broken foot pedal. The only recourse in this scenario is lie your guts out to any EA warranty representative willing to assist. The fib may be innovative and ironclad, but EA is still going to ask for a less-than-60-day-old receipt. While lying is a hilarious way to get hardware replaced, what about the honest man who may have bought one of the defective November bundles? For those that may have been burned by the restriction, there is redemption coming directly from developer Hamonix. According to Gamasutra, on June 30, Harmonix is repealing the restriction for those who may have received a defective set of Rock Band hardware. Even though this move was made, Harmonix still maintains that the majority of the problems are the player’s fault, not the manufacturer's. The warranty restriction will go back into place on October 1 of this year, once the smoke has cleared. As much as I love Rock Band and acting like an idiot while playing “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” I have to admit my launch day guitar and drum kit are not the most responsive things on this planet. When I originally bought the game for the 360, I had to return the guitar practically immediately, and I ended up just settling with the equally crappy guitar I was sent back. I am still hopelessly bitter about it. Have any of you gotten a defective unit like I did? Better yet, do you think Harmonix is taking care of business the right way?

Fuck you, Harmonix! I just bought one of your new drums after your old one (pads and pedal) broke the day after my warranty ended. FUCK YOU.
Hope I can still return it; it's going to be a hassle.
While I do love Rock Band, I must hand it to Red Octane and them knowing how to make quality plastic instruments. Only the whammy bars for my PS2 ones have given out, but those were easily fixed using rubber bands.
...as for my Rock Band Guitars, so far they've all had this 'second day' defect. The original Guitar that came with my near-launch bundle gave out after a DAY of use (the orange fret was stuck on screen), and I ended up waiting a month for the replacement guitar to come. Once it did, it TOO broke me the second day as well (not to mention it took them nearly THREE months to send me a box to ship the guitar back to them).
I'm just thankful I can use the GH3 Les Paul with Rock Band.
Got it for the PS3 at launch had to send in the guitar 2 weeks later. I just sent in my foot pedal like a month ago and it was as easy as the guitar, didn't have to lie, I told him "the pedal broke" and he said OK I'll send you a new one. Never asked for a receipt. I thought their customer service was great, once you get past all the EA B.S. and actually talk to a person.
@ KaRIL
I was asked for a receipt right away. They said it was part of a change in policy where they're making sure you're in warranty, and it had started a week prior to when I called. Which pissed me off even more than knowing stuff gave out the day after the warranty ended.
I have had to return the Rock Band guitar, foot pedal, and drum pads all for replacements!! I think they've tried to fix the situation with some redesign. The original designs were meh. The replacement guitar still seems a bit weak (I prefer any of the GH axes), but I can tell that they have reinforced the foot pedal (it seems a little thicker and more ribs underneath for non-breaking pleasure!), and the drum pads seem "different" but in a good way.
I don't know how Harmonix can blame the user for THEIR design problems. I also play drums in the real world and for Harmonix to expect that the real drummers out there wouldn't try to play "normally" is ridiculous. I play using the heel-up technique and that seems definitely more rough on the foot pedal than heel-down. Not much I can do about that. I could even flex my original pedal by hand before it broke...I knew it wouldn't last long. They are trying to rectify the situation fairly well, but for the $$ we pay, the design should have been a lot better to begin with.
@Necros
Wow, I must have just gotten in before the new policy.
@Jaren
3 months is crazy, they sent mine in a week and half tops. Did you do the pay $125 and they send you the replacement right away, then take the charge off once you send yours back? That really speeds things up.
I just got this game for Wii 2 days ago, so nothing bad has happened to the instruments themselves yet. However, the first time I hit the drums with the drumsticks, one of them broke. So while they're sending me red replacement drumsticks, I've had to duck tape the broken one.
But according to amazon reviews, these sticks might brake easily too. :(
My pedal broke about two days into having the game.
I complained, so they sent me a new one. I didn't even have to send the other back.
New one broke three days into it...and I'm not fucking stomping this thing. I'm giving it a gentle toe tap.
Needless to say, I'm very fucking pissed. They just don't work the same with the duct tape treatment. So fucking unresponsive.
AHHHHHHH
This is why it makes me a happy panda when I get story warranties. I don't have to worry, I'm covered for two years. o: Which, well, seems excessive now that I think about it.
I MIGHT WRITE A BLOG ABOUT! ZOMG!
store* whoops!
Thank you harmonix! Now I'll be able to get my sixth set of drums!!!
I'm taking advantage of this to get the top frets of the guitar fixed, but fuck that $120 hold on my credit card. The idea of them imprinting my card for twice the retail price of the WIRELESS guitar is retarded. I'll wait a little longer for the exchange and focus on the drum career in the meantime.
I bought mine on December and everything's fine. The pedal did get a bit loose after I let a fat friend of mine use it and he slammed it down a lot. still works perfectly and so does the guitar (even if the guitar's strum a little flimsy).
my pedal broke just HOURS after reading a cblog about this
Bought the 360 version very recently. My pedal broke within two days of purchase. The replacement took seven days to snap at the same stress point. The second time around (about a week ago) they asked for my receipt, which I of course had. My plan was to RMA everything that came bundled with my crappy MFD Dec. setup, but now that I have a month or two extra, I'll probably hang on to the stuff until it actually breaks. I have no doubt it will - their track record isn't exactly perfect.
First rule of business: when you have a successful product that's making money... cheapen it to make more money.
I traded in my shitty rock band guitar and the shitty drum kit. kept the mic and the game so i can still play it with my kid . With the use of my wireless gh guitar. I anxiously await gh:world tour so i can purchase a hopefully better drumkit and at least i know the guitar won't suck!
Just broke mine to California last week and ended up buying a replacement pedal from pedalmasters www.pedalmasters.com.
Seems like there's a bunch out there. I just liked theirs because of their logo. Nothing else. Based on alot of blogs out there though, I think the plastic base is gonna break too eventually.
Oh well, I guess I'll deal with that when that happens. I guess I'll have to drum like a pussy for a little while until I get some more cash saved up to buy a "real pedal".
Maybe then I can slam some real tunes with my new tricked out pedal and I can drum like its never been done Sweeeeeeeeet.
At least I'm not throwing a football at my 42" LCD screen...
