Harmonix and MTV Games late, announce licensed in-game instruments for Rock Band photo

I definitely had to check my calendar and the date on the press release for this one a few times: Harmonix and MTV Games have announced today that Rock Band 2 will feature a huge line-up of instruments from premier manufacturers. Yes, Rock Band 2, the game that was released for the Xbox 360 last Sunday.

OK, so maybe they should have sent this press release out -- oh, I don't know -- three months ago. But everyone act, real surprised when I reveal that equipment by Fender, Dretsch, Pearl, Zildjian, Sennhesier, and Ernie Ball, among others, appears in Rock Band 2

"We believe that working closely with our musical instrument partners is crucial to our mission to deliver the most authentic music experience possible," said Harmonix's Vice President of Product Development, Greg LoPiccolo.

Sure, I'll buy that. It's cool that a wide variety of licensed hardware -- the same that top musicians use -- appears in Rock Band 2. But considering the fact that my in-game avatar has played a guitar shaped like a God damned goat since last November, I'm not quite sure how much this means to me personally.

The full list of licensed partners can be found in the press release after the jump.

I'm pretty sure they were never intending to release this press release but probably had to because of licensing (free advertisement for Fender and co.). My guess is they just goofed off and put it off as long as possible. Then again press release haven't been particularly on the ball lately (if I see one more press release on a demo that isn't actually live for a another week but claims it's live that day I swear).

Definitely can't wait for Rock Band 2 on PS3. They just keep coming up with new ways to make the game that much better. As long as they keep getting new stuff out I don't care how late the press releases are.

Did I overlook something? I don't see any Paul Reed Smith. Bad enough that I can't afford one in real life, but the guys at Rock Band 2 could've at least splurged a little and made my virtual guitar kick ass.

This for me is basicly the same as the Guitar Hero options for selecting licenced parts for your instruments, it's kinda cool, but nothing relly important, just a way for the3 companies to make a buck with advertizing. It adds a little bit of realism, but it won't affect gameplay.

Carry on.

Seriously, you've had the Goat Head since last November? I think you're bluffing. It's too expensive.

I got the goat head guitar in RB1... it's so lame though... only thing cool about it is it's expensive and therefore proves how many songs I've played and such...
