Happy birthday Sonic, you're finally legal photo

I know most of you sick bastards have been waiting for Miley Cyrus, but someone more important has just turned eighteen today, and he's everybody's favorite blue hedgehog. Sega's long-suffering mascot has become legal, and if you thought the furry slash fanfiction was bad before, you just wait to see how horrible it gets today.

To celebrate Sonic's birthday, Sega is giving away loads of stuff in Twitter via its Sonic Games account. If you want free stuff, follow them and jump through a series of hoops in order to win things like download codes for XBLA games, and a load merchandise with Sonic's battered face on it. 

Happy birthday, Sonic. Here's to you, and we hope that Sega puts you in a good game as a nice little treat on your special day.

It never occurred to me that Sonic's been going through his teen years for a while. Perhaps all those terrible games were just due to bad choices on his part?

And here is to hoping it doesn't take another 10 years to put out a decent sonic game.

The last sonic game I played (that I thought was good) was Sonic Adventure 2. And the first sonic on ps3 and 360 was fun for about 15 mins only because the graphics looked nice. I guess I'm a bit of a tool for not checking out the most recent one, but the whole were-hog thing looks ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

Also, does anyone notice the trend of making a kart racing game when most platformer devleoper's run out of good ideas? Crash did it, Mario did it, Jak and Daxter did it and now sega is about to do it for the 2nd time when the first one was nothing more than mediocre...didn't they release it on the saturn too? Bad choices...

@Super-Weedgan: Well, there are three Sonic R games (if you count both of the Rider games in that series), and then two Sonic Drift titles...oh, and there's that kart minigame in SA2.

Yeah, he's been racing and junk for a while now. =P

@Maverick Try being 6 years older than him. That'll make you feel even older. Maybe that's why I stick to Nintendo... most of their IPs are just as old as I am (give or take a year or two).

Happy birthday to the guy who is probably the most influential game character to ever be in my life. Or, he's certainly the one I've spent the most time with anyway, starting with a Genesis/Sonic 2 bundle I got for Christmas in '92. Sonic, no matter how bad they make your games, or how silly they make you look, I will always think fondly of you; maybe when you get older, you'll go back to your old ways, but for now, I'll keep having fun with the oldies.

Don't blame Sonic, blame the massive incompetence of the new Sonic Team.

Here's to hoping that if the next Sonic game is a dive that they axe Sonic Team...
