Yes, we've previewed the Hell out of Legendary here at Destructoid. The game is hitting the home stretch as it's set to release later this month and there's only one thing left that needed to be shown off before the game comes out.

Like any decent FPS game, Legendary has a multiplayer mode and I got a taste of it earlier this week. Unlike most other FPS games, however, Spark is introducing an interesting aspect to the traditional versus mode, called Safari mode.

In the campaign, after you kill monsters, they drop animus, which you can use to heal yourself and perform magical attacks. In the multiplayer, you'll use the animus to heal yourself or bank the animus in a machine. The only way to win a multiplayer match is by filling up the animus machine before the other team does. Because this is the only way to win, you really have to think before you use your animus. Do you really want to heal yourself or do you want to escape and fill up the machine as soon as possible? It's usually a good idea to save the animus for the machine, but if you're taken out, the animus drops to the ground and anyone can take it.

Players will pick their weapon load out before the start of a round and can change their weapons at the weapons locker placed by the respawn point. You'll be able to pick up your enemies weapons after killing them and get weapons only found in the map such as the powerful Saw.

Sadly, that's pretty much it. The multiplayer mode will only have this one gametype, four maps based on the main campaign levels, and not a whole lot else. The game will also support up to eight players and all of the character models look similar, making it hard to tell who's who.

The team really wanted to focus on creating a really good gametype and if the game does well, expect some DLC to help add more depth to the multiplayer, such as more weapons and maps. And if the game does really well to the point that it warrants a sequel, expect the possibility of playable werewolves in the next game.

For more info on Legendary, check out our past previews and the official Legendary Web site. Legendary will be out September 30th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

That sounds alright but I can't believe it's the only game mode and there's only 4 maps. Multiplayer is very important for longevity of all games in my opinion.

I don't know about this. I really don't. I don't see anything amazing about it, though it does sound like they're putting a lot of heart into it. So maybe it could be okay.

It's still too early.

why not just put that stuff in now. why wait to " see if it does well" it would do better if it had this shit in the first place.

That kinda sucks. I thought playable werewolves was a given. Sadness.

For some strange reason, this game isn't stirring much interest in me.

the idea of going to town on werewolves, gryphens, golems and centaurs with weapons and magic SHOULD be making me cream my pants...

But it's not :(
