This game looks fucking awesome. Personally, I cant wait to beat the shit out of Kratos with Sly Cooper. The fact that I will even be able to do that is amazing.
It's not about whether or not they're allowed to make a mascot brawler. It's about them trying SO OBVIOUSLY HARD to mimic the original. I, personally, won't be buying this because it lacks originality. Taking a game and swapping characters does not an original game make.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if they cracked open the SSBB iso somehow and copied code directly to this game. No joke. Go watch a video.
So why didn't Sony make thier own spin? I've seen enough to see a clone here.
And for the record Dissidia is my jam, not Smash Bros,
Seriously, though, what is up with Parappa? They couldn't just copy Mr. Game and Watch? Instead of paper, it looks like he was a 3d model that got squished.

I'm just worried about the balance with the "Final Smashes". If there's a way to turn them off, then hell yes. Wouldn't mind them copying SSB a little more and adding some Stock matches as well.
Ring outs are better than knock outs. You don't Know when you're going to die. You could still recover.
In typical fighting games, having a traditional life gauge is a drag. "OH cool. You kicked me in the shin and I had 3 HP, so I'm dead now." Lame sauce.
TMNT didn't copy the Smash Bros. formula enough, afaic, and it looks like this one is going to fail similarly.
Look at Dissidia. That's a mash up fighting game that does something different. Not only is the roster different and exciting, but the gameplay is a huge departure from Smash Bros.
As for this, what are you going to play it for? The gameplay? Not if it's the same as Smash Bros. The characters? Hahahah, please, anyone trying to claim Sony has a memorable roster is delusional.
Also, lol at all the fanboys calling the game a ripoff. Every game created now can be called a ripoff if you look deep enough into it.
Personally, I don't care what names are lumped in for hype. I was never on the competitive side.
And I don't know if you read, but one bit in the preview here:
"Also, some attacks knock AP (action points) out of opponents, letting others pick them up to fill up these meters."
points out that dodging and picking up/spamming said attacks could be more viable than it should.
Seeing as there's already balance issues regarding some supers just being plain better, I can already see "tournament" matches being the equivalent of Meta Knight vs. Meta Knight vs. Meta Knight vs. Meta Knight.
To each his own, I guess. Still somewhat disappointed it's a smash clone and not a power stone clone.
"I'm really amazed people are defending this game."
Yeah, its almost as though there are people out there who would like to play it, and that yours and Sofiks opinions arent the only ones that count.
Crazy world we live in
Not memorable to you, but just because your narrow minded doesn't mean everyone else is.
Hell what made the smash characters that memorable, I remember my 3 mains( Luigi, pikachu, bowser) Mario because he is in anything Nintendo and mr game and captin falcon, that's it.
Right, because Roy and Marth were hugely popular characters when Melee was released, yeah? And people were clamouring for R.O.B. and Ice Climbers for years, I take it? Before Melee and Brawl, when were they relevant again? Or did you mean those unique and creative and super popular characters like Wolf, Falco and Pichu, who each brought something special to the game? Please.
If you don't like Sony or their characters for whatever reason, that's fine. Just don't bring up bullshit excuses. You might not like them, but other people do.
To those who say: "Who even asked for this? Do Sony fans even want a Smash Bros. style game? I can't see why anyone would be interested in a game like this", there is such a thing as a differing opinion. I can't speak for anyone else but I've wanted a Sony Smash Bros. game for years and I'm really excited about this.
You may not like the look of this game, but that doesn't mean everyone is in agreement with you. I got into games with the original Playstation and I've stuck with them into adult life, and the characters mean a lot to me. I can't wait to play this game. If it's not to your taste, that's cool. To each their own.
To everyone shitting their pants and screaming "OMG WHAT A CHEAP LAZY RIP OFF", why is another Smash style game such a bad thing? Personally I think we should be asking for more of these games. I want a Smash-esque franchise for Microsoft too. I don't own an Xbox so I don't know what characters would be in it, but the whole point of these games is to celebrate the series and characters that people have loved over the years by putting them in a game together and smothering it in fan-service. Does that sound so awful?
And for the rampaging Nintendo fans who are upset that Sony is "ripping off" Smash Bros., just think of it like this: more competition is a good thing. If this game has some cool features and turns out awesome, Sakurai will be forced to up his game, so Smash 4 will be improved. That's good, right? I want the next Smash game to be amazing, especially after some of the questionable aspects of Brawl. And besides, All Stars Battle Royale might tide you over until Smash Wii U comes out in a couple of years. Just give it a chance.
I believe that's oxymornic. Smash has some of the worst controls a fighting game has ever had. They're absolutely terrible and have a completely unnecessary learning curve.
Putting that logic gripe aside, I'm excited about this. Hopefully it turns out well.
This isn't just "another brawler" mean to compete with Smash Brothers. From the footage I've seen, it literally IS Smash Bros. It even seems like a carbon copy in the physics department, and it looks floaty as fuck (just like Brawl was). When I first heard the rumors, I was hoping Sony would make a game that was a bit more competitive and speedy and combined the traditional 2D fighters like Street Fighter with the accessibility of the Smash Bros. games. Instead, this is Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Sony Edition.
Not interested in the least.
This would not make it an truly individual entry in a genre, nor a homage, but a copy/me too affair.
What is wrong with this? Nothing, really. But if you are going to take inspiration from something or try to copy it, one would hope you would add your own touch to it.
I may be wrong, but didn't power stone come out BEFORE smash bro's?
so wouldn't tey both be 'clones' of that amazingly amazing game of amazing?
From what I've gathered, the only difference is that there are no ring outs. And the finish moves sound eerily similar to those found in a billy and mandy brawler, making the only deviation from SB a rip from a Power stone+sb game.
Even dan here said they are virtually the same:
"Smash rip-off? Who cares!"
Doesn't scream "individual take".
His attacks will include being overwhelmingly irritating, irrational to the point where his enemies self destruct, and as a defense mechanism, he goes on tangents to negate half of incoming damage by appearing brain dead.
Only problem would be if 4 people played as him at once the tv would probably self-destruct due to a critical mass of stupidity
The industry is built on STEALING ideas people get a fucking grip.
