Actually, I would love this. To see the company recognise their mistakes, then actively work to improve the situation. Taking a long view, "let's stop clowning around" approach and making their product actually viable instead of simply a joke.
I just don't know if Nintendo can do it. They've had all that time to work on their online components, and seem to stubborny refuse it.
Also, the batteries run out of power in a very, very short time. That's just annoying.
Battery is also one of my concerns, but that's probably something that will be fixed on a hardware update. But,seiously, that Friend List needs an urgent overhaul.
Also, features are overrated.
Well, to be honest I couldn't care less about the online stuff of anything but PC games, and I really think the lack of games and the baterry is what Nintendo needs to fix the soonner the better. But, hey, you people always seem so concerned about those things and tend to make a big fuss over them all the time so oh, well. Whatever.
It's really awful and I don't think the author was scathing enough in all honesty. That e-shop would have looked bad in 2004, fast forward to 2011 and it's just DIRE.
I'm excited for the potential this device has but Nintendo shouldn't bank on blind loyalty, if the Vita comes good on it's promises then I won't think twice of ditching the 3DS, especially in it's current state.
1 comment on "reach the 900,000 on a worldwide level and a whole bunch of games canceled, not to mention numerous 3DS games delayed, Nintendo realized that desperate times require desperate measures. And of course, nothing screams 'desperate' like a 32% price cut "
1) The ds didnt even do that well on a worldwide level. And at least the 3ds was number 1 in a region
2) Only a few games cancelled had anything to do with the 3ds.
3) The games delayed in question IE crush and shinobi have release dates already set for this year
4) Hardly desperate since the the price cut is helping the 3ds achieve fiscal sales that the ds never even dreamed of. Its not desperate. Its allowing it to sell at incredible levels.
I wonder if he typed this with a straight face..........
The same reason why the last 3 megaman games were cancelled that were NOT on the 3ds. Capcom wants to kill the franchise. Theyve done it with over 5+ franchises.
Assasins creed was more of an idea and not even an actual game in development. Nintendo made the mistake of including it in its e3 thing. But the ds got one years later. So I wouldnt be suprised to see one years later
I never saw that demo....impressive.
@Stealth
The 3ds has real competition this time around. A lot of faults. And it isn't pioneering a radical new way of playing games, it should have a great start. And are you sure about it being better on a worldwide level? Hasn't the 3ds sold like almost 5 million in 5 months. I kind of want to say the ds did better than that.
The ds did exactly the same as that with a holiday, with a lower price. And Your not giving the psp enough credit. That was incredible competition. Theres a reason why it outsold the ps3 and 360 by a decent margin. And no system is great from the start ever. At least to me.
So the ds did better, it just did it over the holiday season?
And the quality and approach of the psp is not comparable to the vita. The 3ds had a lot of faults because it was rushed out. Possibly for shareholders, but the price drop was definitely in preparation for the vita.
I like rabid fanboyism as much as the next guy, but you're not gonna sit there and convince me the 3DS is a glorious money-printing behemoth of a God-system like you're making it out to be. It has its problems and is nowhere near the standard I and many others hold for Nintendo, especially in the portable arena.
They did about the same. The quality of psp titles was just as high. The 3ds was rushed out. The price drop was so they could hit there incredibly high fiscal number. Thats was iwata said
@Lausgoose
I am not trying to convince you of anything. Or what you just described because its not. The ds wasnt a money printing machine early on either which was what I was comparing it too
I agree with all of the article's author's points but maybe I should just listen to you. I'll just grab my 3DS and "Go Ahead and Play". But my question is: Go ahead and play what?
With the suggestions in this article, Nintendo can "Go Ahead" with its handheld and actually have things to "Play".
Do you honestly believe that? The zx series was wonderful, universe looked great, and so did this.
I would rather have something than nothing........
But this is capcom
No doubt it looks like Capcom is trying to kill off Megaman but I personally don't believe that is what they are doing. Capcom has stated MML3 was canceled due to a lack of fan interest. I think this is their way of saying that the 3DS had not sold as much as they were expecting, making Nintendo's poor handling of the 3DS the cause of its cancellation.
And I call bs on that explanation. They just wanted to cancel it like they have every game since inafune left. And capcom has made alot of money off 3ds games so far. Having a 100k+ game, and a platinum game. Theyve been happy with the 3ds and theyve said so.
The cancellation had nothing to do with the 3ds.
Capcom didn't want to pour more time and resources (money) into something they feel is niche and wouldn't give them a huge return. But that seems to be the problem this gen. No one wants to take risks. They want to put as little time and effort into something that will print money (CoD, AssCreed, etc). I miss last gen. I feel psn, xbla and handhelds are where some of the most original, fun and awesome games are these days. Of course there is always exceptions. On that note back to Deus Ex (sooooo good).
Well saying Capcom is killing off the Megaman franchise is just like supporting any other conspiracy. Most conspiracies will never have a final answer. If this one turns out like most of the others, the only people who will know whether what Capcom is stating is true or if they are trying to kill off the franchise are the high-ups at Capcom. I can't state "Capcom cancelled this game because of lack of fan interest" as 100% fact just as you can't state "Capcom is trying to kill off the Megaman franchise" as 100% fact. We are each titled to our own opinions of what is going on but we must realize that is exactly what they are. Opinions.
We havent seen a new breath of fire in years, a new power stone, a new onimusha, I can go on and on. And all the franchises in capcoms graveyard were treated like garbage right at the end like they are doing now with megaman. But one thing we know for sure is capcom has been very happy with the results of there 3ds games
1.- Waste moneyz on developing alpha versions of numerous titles from the series, marketing and what not
2.- Cancel them all, don't get back the moneyz you wasted
3.- ??????
4.- PROFIT!
Am I doin it rite, Stealth :3?
I don't get that, why would they do it?
I mean, I do see the examples, I KNOW the have shelved franchises, but while Ubisoft, Activision and Microsoft's bought pals are throwing a new iteration every year, what makes Capcom different?
They are the guys who made about 6 version of Street Fighter 2 and 3, for the love of christ
Certainly I agree in all your points.
-What happened with the AR? Certainly it have potential
-The friend manager is a mess. I wanted to play SSFIV with some friends and I'm lucky if I can have a match with someone on my list without waiting for around of 20 min.
-The e-shop needs improvement
-I have more fun with the gyro sensor than with the 3D on Zelda:OOTT and on DOA:Dimensions case, the combination of those two have give some moments of fun. And some of my DS games are played a lot better thanks to the circle pad.
-I only have three 3DS games and only Doa:Dimensions is the only original one. I recognized that I've never played Oott and SSFIV, I'm ok with 2 or three on the early life cicle, but when I see so many remakes on the early life cicle of the handheld then something is wrong. In this part I'm going to play a little bit to the devil's advocate on nintendo's side, because of the bunch of remakes that are or will be on the market, only two belong to nintendo, the rest were from Capcom (SSFIV), Namco Bandai (Tales of the abyss), Sega, Konami (MGS3), Atlus (SMT: Devil survior), Nippon ichi/nicalis (cave story) and the list goes on, so I think that in this part most of the responsability of the ports and remakes are from third parties not nintendo themselves. Nintendo gived the chance by pacing their own releases in favor of the third party releases, but most of the third parties responded with much of the crap that is on the market on 3DS. I agree that they need to work closely with some third parties, but if the third parties are not responding, then they need to focus their attention on their own studios. They have a bunch of first and second party, they need it a lot more than ever for creating more original ip's, reviving old franchise or give a new style to some ip's and of course.
Again nice article. Certainly you projected many of the complains and worries that many 3DS have. I love the machine, and I think that still has a lot of potentioal, is just matter that nintendo can work on time on them.
Once a title is developed they then have to pay for shipping, packaging and marketing. They probably figured it would be cheaper to scrap it.
@stealth
Pretty sure the ds sold more. If anything you really shouldn't say the 3ds did. The ds did have christmas and the 3ds did have a price drop but if it isn't true you probably shouldn't write it.
