Okay, so it's not quite as grand a gesture as, say, Capcom showering the former employees of the now-defunct Clover Studio with cash and concubines and granting them carte blanche to create whatever bizarre or otherwise unusual title that they wanted to create, but it's still good news. We learned late last year that, while Capcom was intent on welcoming the bulk of Clover's 64 employees back into the fold, a select few would not be returning, including Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and the director of Okami, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe, Hideki Kamiya. Now, at least, we know what's been keeping them busy.

Say hello to Seeds Inc., a new start-up development studio born of Clover's untimely demise, brought about by a supergroup-esque coalition of talent including both Mikami and Kamiya, as well as several others from Clover. While it's very likely that we'll see some extremely original titles coming out of this development studio, don't get your hopes up for an Okami 2 -- at least, not from Seeds. As part of the terms of the studio's dissolution, all of the intellectual property created by Clover Studio has defaulted back to Capcom.

Still, it's very nice to see the house that brought us God Hand live on in one form or another. Seems to be that there's a growing trend of the best minds in gaming breaking off from their corporate masters and goin' all vigilante; here's hoping for some dynamite product in the near future.

Interesting, Treasure was formed a similar way (they broke off of Konami a while ago, employees at Treasure actually CREATED Contra, yet they can't work on that game anymore, probably why newer Contra games stink). Hopefully they'll end up doing what Treasure does, creating a few extremely high quality games now and then and occasionally pushing the limits of the systems they release them on (see Alien Soldier for a limit-pusher, that game is almost too much for the Megadrive).

Dissapointing that the properties went back to Capcom, Godhand actually did well enough and I would have loved a sequel.

God Hand's main problem is that it had a ton of soul but not enough technical polish but I didn't care, even with the cheapness at times, God Hand was just beyond awesome.

I like this Aaron Linde guy.
He posts interesting stuff.

Seriously, this is great news.
A shame Clover had to bite the dust.
Hopefully they will develop some Wii games.

It's a shame that SEEDS won't ever work on a new Viewtiful Joe game. That said, let's hope Capcom let's Joe die peacefully instead of churning out new games Mega Man style. I think 2 superb games and 2 spin-offs are enough for the series.

Arro - I agree. AL is my fav. dtoid editor.

..and about the news: fuck yes. Too much good came out of Clover to see them go away, and if they're living on in any form, then that's great.

This is definitely a good thing. Now they won't be held back by Capcom as far as their creative direction is concerned. However, I big name like Capcom backing your game definitely feels comforting; but with talent like this, I'm sure these guys will be just fine.
