Halo: Reach owners getting unreadable discs (again!) photo

Following on from yesterday's co-op problems, a number of Xbox 360 users are now complaining that they're getting disc-read-errors when attempting to play Halo: Reach. Oh dear.

This is actually quite a nostalgic issue, as Halo 3: ODST suffered from the exact same issue, and Halo 3 was pretty famous for scratched or otherwise completely unreadable copies. What is Bungie doing to these games that are causing so many of them to screw up? Are they making cats lick the discs? That's the only reasonable thing I can think of.

Microsoft has stated that it is aware of the problem and that it's working on a solution. Of course, since this is the third Halo game to have a problem, you'd think the publisher would be pretty adept at fixing it by now!

See, more shoddiness from Microsoft. How can their so-called big game be so faulty? This rarely happens on a blu-ray disc game on the Playstation 3

They're probably rubbing their million dollar dicks all over each copy just because I know that's what I would do. Weird? Maybe, but Bungie can afford to be weird, because they are rich.

What is Bungie doing to these games?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that Bungie manufactures their own game disks, they just make the software that goes on it. Right?

Separately though, I'm pretty surprised that Microsoft would let this happen three times in a row. My copy is coming to me this Friday, so I hope dearly that it's all right.

It sucks when you buy a $60.00 game and can't play it...

Just glad I've never gotten into the series enough to actually want to go out and buy a copy. At a friends house sure it's a blast on split screen.

$200 million in the first day says it is a big game. No so-called about it dude.

Not a single problem so far on my end. Sometimes and this is rare mind you, it'll think I put a DVD into my system which I take out and is immediately playable after that.

That's fucking weird though. I hope I haven't jinxed my copy. This isn't anything to do with moving the system when playing is it? I still hate the fact I wasn't warned about that.

Not like that game is any good. All the damn halo's are exactly the same. I'm so tired of that boring gameplay. Can't be bother to get past mission 3.

To fix this, Microsoft is going to start selling Halo Reach Cases only. This will effectively fix the problem of scratched discs, because, if there is no disc in the case, it can't be scratched.

It worked with the RROD and the Slim360.

@garethxxgod

My xbox would read just about all of my games as dvds also. But then it stopped, so that is most likely an issue with the system, not the game.

Admittedly, for a change Romo is kinda onto something. Not to say he's completely right but when you get stuff like disc read errors with nary a scratch AND without proper warning you can fuck your own games up by moving it I think Microsoft needs to reconsider using disc trays on their next console.

Here's the deal: All discs, DVD & Blu-ray alike are cheaply & shoddily manufactured, the reason you hear about more issues being reported for a game like Halo Reach as opposed to say... Barbie Horse Adventures is because they sold 200 million more copies of Halo Reach than Barbie Horse Adventures therefore the % of sh$tty discs is HUGE comparatively! Not defending Halo/Bungie/Microsoft because yes they still are having crap discs manufactured... but it's not just them.

Haha...i wish that were true. But you must admit, The Playstation 3 is looking better and better come the hoidays. This is due to the best exclusive games that it has that appeals to everyone, not just a single genre system like the 360.
I mean not that its not a good system, but gamers want variety and not the 120th iteration of Halo

@garethxxgod: I have actually moved both my Wii AND my PS3 (as well as my GC, PS2, PSX) multiple times while they are playign games just to prove a point and none of my games have ever been scratched.

On the other hand I've broken 3 games by simply nudging the 360 by accident. It is a problem which is inherent ONLY in the 360.

No problems with mine, can't get over how much depth the armor abilities have added to the gameplay.

I'm two-thirds of the way through the campaign and it is fucking solid, combine that with unprecedented multiplayer cumstomization (you can really make your own maps!), and fully tweakable game types, and you've got a game that will be played for a long time.

Throw in the announcement of MS partnering with some of the most creative developers Japan has to offer (I'm interterested in Kinect now!), an all-stat team of devs working on hardcore Kinect games is fantastic news.

What a great week for gaming, I just picked up Splinter Cell: Conviction too, but I've been so into Halo: Reach I haven't even tried SC yet.

Wow, just fucking wow.

I can't see the pic Hazycloud but the point I was making was when I bought the system I had previously owned a PS3 which COULD be moved and thus my brand new copy of Dead Rising got fucked the first day I bought a 360.

Moral? I shouldn't be afraid to accidentally nudge my system, though I'm sure Microsoft would tell you "LOL, by that's why we put the option to install silly." it shouldn't be an issue in the first place.

I bought a 360 (Even thought I already have a PS3) solely for playing this game. I must say I don't deserve it, I've never been into Microsoft gaming, never played a game in the 360... and yet...
a) I got the game before a lot of those who preordered it years ago
b) My copy wasn't damaged

I'm sorry for those who have it rough... REACH ROCKS!

All I'm saying is that IS proper warning. What else do you need? Engraved on the console itself? :)

Readers: This isn't the lens-scratching issue that's being discussed here. That's problem can happen on ANY disc if you move the system.

This problem is referring to discs that weren't burned properly by the manufacturer. It's an issue that usually effects games with huge releases as they pump out millions and millions of discs in a very short amount of time. I guarantee that Black Ops will have a similar issue as the past few CoD games have as well.
