Following on from yesterday's co-op problems, a number of Xbox 360 users are now complaining that they're getting disc-read-errors when attempting to play Halo: Reach. Oh dear.
This is actually quite a nostalgic issue, as Halo 3: ODST suffered from the exact same issue, and Halo 3 was pretty famous for scratched or otherwise completely unreadable copies. What is Bungie doing to these games that are causing so many of them to screw up? Are they making cats lick the discs? That's the only reasonable thing I can think of.
Microsoft has stated that it is aware of the problem and that it's working on a solution. Of course, since this is the third Halo game to have a problem, you'd think the publisher would be pretty adept at fixing it by now!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that Bungie manufactures their own game disks, they just make the software that goes on it. Right?
Separately though, I'm pretty surprised that Microsoft would let this happen three times in a row. My copy is coming to me this Friday, so I hope dearly that it's all right.
Just glad I've never gotten into the series enough to actually want to go out and buy a copy. At a friends house sure it's a blast on split screen.
You're right. This disc business is shoddy but........
"their so-called big game....."
$200 million in the first day says it is a big game. No so-called about it dude.
That's fucking weird though. I hope I haven't jinxed my copy. This isn't anything to do with moving the system when playing is it? I still hate the fact I wasn't warned about that.
It worked with the RROD and the Slim360.
My xbox would read just about all of my games as dvds also. But then it stopped, so that is most likely an issue with the system, not the game.
Well, i'm a gamer just like all of you and i'm here to help try to cut through the smokescreens and the FUDs of the industry and tell you the straight up facts about gaming and which games to go for. As a gamer, it good to see fellow gamers getting help and advice. Haha.
You forgot to mention sony or playstation in that last post. You dont get payed to not mention sony or playstation. Don't screw up again.
I figured this was enough of proper warning.

I'm not a PS3 or Wii owner, but I'd assume both will damage discs if you move them while playing a game. Anyone know?
Haha...i wish that were true. But you must admit, The Playstation 3 is looking better and better come the hoidays. This is due to the best exclusive games that it has that appeals to everyone, not just a single genre system like the 360.
I mean not that its not a good system, but gamers want variety and not the 120th iteration of Halo
On the other hand I've broken 3 games by simply nudging the 360 by accident. It is a problem which is inherent ONLY in the 360.
I think that final "Haha" speaks volumes. Let's just say though it's been done before and by far more entertaining people than yourself.
I'm two-thirds of the way through the campaign and it is fucking solid, combine that with unprecedented multiplayer cumstomization (you can really make your own maps!), and fully tweakable game types, and you've got a game that will be played for a long time.
Throw in the announcement of MS partnering with some of the most creative developers Japan has to offer (I'm interterested in Kinect now!), an all-stat team of devs working on hardcore Kinect games is fantastic news.
What a great week for gaming, I just picked up Splinter Cell: Conviction too, but I've been so into Halo: Reach I haven't even tried SC yet.
Wow, just fucking wow.
Moral? I shouldn't be afraid to accidentally nudge my system, though I'm sure Microsoft would tell you "LOL, by that's why we put the option to install silly." it shouldn't be an issue in the first place.
I'm sorry but i take some offence when you use the derogatory term fanboy on me. I have my opinions and i'm sharing them. I did not force any of them on you or the other gamers. Why must you feel threatened? I really, sincerely mean no harm or malice to anyone.
If you are offended by my words then i apologise, but i won't apologise for my views and opinions. And isn't a difference of opinions make discussions more livelier?
I'm looking to pick up Conviction. Did you get it in the cheap?
@ this thread. Not that I knew about this but I installed Halo: Reach to my HD last night so I'm Hopi g that circumvents any possible problems I might have encountered.
I don't dislike him, I just dont understand why Sony felt it necessary to place a PR rep here at Destructoid.
Here's the pic.
$25 with free shipping from amazon!
a) I got the game before a lot of those who preordered it years ago
b) My copy wasn't damaged
I'm sorry for those who have it rough... REACH ROCKS!
Yeah like anyones reading that when they've just bought a brand new system. They just want the fucking sticker off so they can play!
Please leave. You're not helping anyone, no ones is blinded by sales speak (apart from you) and saying you're here to speak facts and then say it's your opinion just makes you look dumb.
While I can agree that gamers just want to play with their new toy, you said..."AND without proper warning you can fuck your own games up by moving it I think Microsoft needs to reconsider using disc trays on their next console."
All I'm saying is that IS proper warning. What else do you need? Engraved on the console itself? :)
I mean, I must have psychic powers and shit yo...!
This problem is referring to discs that weren't burned properly by the manufacturer. It's an issue that usually effects games with huge releases as they pump out millions and millions of discs in a very short amount of time. I guarantee that Black Ops will have a similar issue as the past few CoD games have as well.
And your replies keep Jim in buisness. Keep them coming, because I like him :D
All these Reach articles make me want it even more. I reckon the people in my life conspired to all have birthdays together so I can't buy this :(
I like you Romo. You are classified as fanboy, sorry, but you are always polite. I'm a big fan of courtesy myself because i find that it confuses people now-a-days, and it amuses me.
No i will not. Just because you don't agree with me does not give you the right to chase me away. I did nothing offensive. I did not insult anyone or call them derogatory names. I'm just here as a gamer.
fapped for use of new word cumstomization.
