I'm the biggest Halo nerd around these parts and even I thought the Halo Reach trailer that premiered near the end of the VGAs was disappointing. But, I'm not blaming Bungie for that. I have to blame the hype that got built up around it already. Oh hype train. Here we go again!

Anyway, the trailer above is all in-game footage supposedly. If true, then holy damn those that look great. Regardless of how it looks, I'm extremely excited for Reach. The fall of Reach is a big turning point for the UNSC battle against the Covenant, especially since the battle that takes place there leads the Master Chief to discover the Halo ring world where Halo: Combat Evolved takes place.

What do you all think? Like what you're seeing? Love that there's more than one SPARTAN II finally? And what's the big deal with showing a regular Elite at the end of the trailer?

[Update: Added a better quality Halo Reach trailer! Check it out!]

Maybe the Elite in the end is basically Bungie saying 'yes, you will be back to killing Elites this game now'.
But yeah, incredibly excited.

Yeah it looked nice, but I need to see some gameplay before I make up my mind.

It needs to be reuploaded with better audio. I couldn't hear anything with the volume turned up. I don't think I missed much though, it looked like it sucked as a trailer.

What even happened in this trailer? There's no gameplay to speak of. Lame.

I'm hopeful that maybe Bungie will do something different with Halo in this prequel game. Since it shouldn't be as far in the future as the others, maybe some more realistic technology or less shields or something. It could be interesting.

That was so boring I stopped watching halfway through.

Of course I haven't really liked a Halo since the original.

My guess is that the elite at the end might be Rtas Vadumee, or one of the other story-relevant elites. I'll have to get a better look, once the cleaner trailer drops at GT as mentioned, or it inevitably pops up on Halo Waypoint.

They should have gone live action like they did with ODST. This trailer was just poor in my opinion. It beat down the Crackdown 2 trailer though, that was really bad.

Didn't they promise a lot of gameplay footage? For some odd reason, and this is probably totally me, I seem to remember a quote saying "80% gameplay." That part is probably completely made up in my head.

I didn't want to say it so I'm glad Hamza did. Also I thought they were going to have a different ( better ) engine graphically. I was really hoping to be blown away and that just didn't happen.

Oh hey, another character with a skull motif going on! Well, I guess I can't complain, he does look pretty darn cool.

That aside, pretty uninteresting trailer. Was hoping to see some real gameplay and find out if it's worth it for me to get on the Halo hypetrain again. For the time being, guess not.

How does he even see out of his helmet with all that paint on it? The skull makes you looks badass but it also inhibits your ability to see.

The engine looks impressive, and I like the tone they are setting. That said, after all the hype, Bungie really should have shown at least a little action in this trailer. Guess we'll have to wait for the beta...

It is hard not to hype up the game and trailer when they claim Reach will be the 'biggest game of 2010.'

Why do people seem so disappointed? It would seem that this is going to be the first Halo game that isn't exactly like all the other Halo games.

I really have to ask, why does Destructoid feel the need to bash Halo every chance they...not get...that they can manufacture? It's pretty sad. I like this site, but it's things like these that make me think that destructoid goes from blogsite/funnies to immature, idiotic, and fanboyish.

Really, grow up.

And also, identify it correctly! It's not a trailer, it's a cutscene. How can you not know the difference? lol.

I think it's the Spartan armor differences that turned me off I thought Spartan armor was unisex, that different armor crap really annoyed me, I would have preferred samish armor just different shoulders and helmets like in Halo 3 mp. Also I really hope this character is a character because the only reason rookie worked because he wasn't a Spartan and from the diiferences in his situation and actions. If they just do chief but less then that will be where this game fails and that's alot coming from me since Halo is the game that made me game and my favorite universe.

I really enjoyed that. I'll grant I am a Halo boy, but I thought there was a subdued but powerful style there. The characters could be stereotypically flat, but I'm optimistic about this.

The characters in ODST were lame and uninteresting in my opinion. It felt like Bungie was trying to pull a "Call of Duty multiple-viewpoints" storyline and it failed miserably.

Also, I see no fucking Elite anywhere in this trailer, and I think CTZ is on crack.

I was expecting some action, but this will do I guess. It's Bungie's M.O. to make debut trailers like these, so I shouldn't be surprised. Still, gives us a look at the characters, and I can't wait to finally have some competent teammates for once. One of my most anticipated titles for 2010.

Just because I'm a seven foot tall three hundred and fifty pound girl in 1000 lb. power armor with greatly enhanced strength, endurance, pain management, and reflexes, who trained for combat since the age of six as part of a clandestine super soldier program doesn't mean I don't know how to fight!

Lol.

They're Spartan II's. Every damned one of them is 'the bad ass of the group'. The group is nothing BUT bad-assness turned up to eleven with real 24 K solid gold trim.

Hmm. I love Halo more than most, but that left me underwhelmed. Would it have killed them to throw in some gameplay? Hell, I would have even settled for some "target render" gameplay!

I just noticed that the female spartan in the trailer has a mechanical/prosthetic arm and some fairly serious facial scarring. She's been through the ringer. The Spartan who was outside the command shed and wearing the recon helmet was loading a sniper rifle. The Spartan with the skull face painted on his(her?) helmet was wearing the EVA version of the Mjolnir armor. The "lieutenant" was wearing the ODST version of the Mjolnir helmet suggesting that he may have previously been supervising some ODSTs.

There's a lot of details in there!

I thought the music was fantastic, the art style manages to stay intact while bumping up the amount of detail and lighting to a newly impressive level, and to fans of the universe, there are actually quite a few little nuggets of story in just this clip. Color me impressed, and I personally prefer promo materials be understated rather than DOH BOY AWESOME in the early stuff.

I think Halo is going Star Wars Republic Commando way... pseudo-squad based combat. Which is just fine by me. Also, that skull on helmet thing looked hot. Fuck Recon, gimme Skull Armor.

This trailer showed me tht Halo is still using it's same crap writers.
I've been burned by Halo 3 (from the poor graphics, to broken matchmaking and rampant cheaters and weak single player) and ODST (all but Firefight mode, which was only okay), so f you, Halo. Going to take a LOT more to ever get me back after ODST.

I heard this was just a custcene, but i wouldn't be surprised if this was the full fledged trailer. Bungie is really disappointing me with the boring trailers (halo 3's were amazing!), the ehh music (again halo 3's were amazing), and the ehh writing.

what the hell?that was that?...its a little too short for me...

you know what ive had enough of Halo, i felt the series has gone stale after the second one, although the third installment was way better than the 2nd one)..

i feel like that MS is just milking the franchise, they should let Bungie expand into more IP's..i feel like that MS cant go beyond the Halo franchise, dont get me wrong i like Halo but this is just how i feel, its the same machismo filled game, ive had enough of the shooting and the feeling of giving Master Chief as like the best soldier in the universe, it seems so foolish now, or maybe i just grew up and im looking for my games to have more layers in them...

now some of you i know would crucifix me on what i said but im sure some Halo players here (older im assuming) feel the same way of the tired and saturated world of Halo..

I had to catch this on Joystiq yesterday cuz Dtoid was down :( I'm not surprised about how little it shows. It's meant to whet our appitites. I look forward to the next trailer. I still can remember the excitement I felt during that first Halo 3 trailer. I think Reach is gonna be a great improvement on the series.

Why can't you just admit the Halo series has always been mediocre and the only thing Bungie and M$ are good at is milking a franchise and marketing the shit out of...shit...
