Halo: ODST signals the end of Halo 3 content photo

Bungie have to be tired of Halo. Since breaking up with Microsoft -- they needed some space -- the studio has put out several map packs and continued to balance and reorganize the multiplayer features of Halo 3. Before the third iteration of the shooter series, Bungie worked like madmen to finish Halo 2 and its post-release content.

And they’re still not done. Halo 3’s Mythic map pack looms and the Halo: ODST expansion (of sorts) is on the horizon. Essentially, it’s all Master Chief and no play for Bungie.

Yet, it appears that ODST could be Bungie’s last hurrah in the Halo universe or at the very least, the last of their work with Halo 3. “Overall though, we are viewing the ODST campaign and the included multiplayer maps as the final exclamation point in our ongoing efforts to extend the Halo 3 experience,” Bungie’s Brian Jarrad told IGN. “We’re really grateful to our fans for standing by Halo 3 for so long and continuing such strong support.”

Gearbox is long rumored to be working on Halo 4, which relieves Bungie of delivering the next big Halo game. Will Bungie take a break and hang up the green helmet after ODST? It seems likely. Imagine eating the same thing everyday for a few years.

I'm not sure why this is being reported as news. I remember they said the exact same "exclamation point on Halo 3" phrase when ODST was first announced.

This might be good news. I'd like to see a new developer bring flavor to this game, then Bungie can also branch out and start working on new projects that don't suck.

Well I still dont believe Gearbox is working on Halo 4... I think they're just working on the Halo 3 PC port. But this really isnt an exclamaption point to the Halo experience... Maybe more like a semicolon or something.

I personally dont think that anyone else should be allowed to make mainstream Halo titles (aka: Games that directly star Master Chief). It would be like someone besides SquareEnix making a Final Fantasy or Zelda appearing on another console (oh...), its a pet peeve of mine when one group willing lets another use their characters/storyline/etc.

I would definitely like to see what else Bungie can come up with...especially with the extra resources. Halo is a great franchise for those guys, but I agree with Brad that it must be getting stale for them.

Regarding your final line in the blog, I would eat the same thing every day for a few years if it made me a shitload of money.

Damn shame, but I'm very interested in seeing what Bungie does next if it isn't Halo 4. I do hope Halo 4 isn't made by Gearbox though... I was not the HUGEST fan of Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway.

I hope support continues, if content doesn't. Halo 3 will be (I predict) overall the most popular multiplayer shooter on 360 by the end of it's lifetime. Bungie balance is perfect. It also has the most empahasis on teamwork and tactics than any game on 360 and I personally don't think anything will top that.

I reckon Bungie will make an MMOFPS next, would be a logical step considering Halo 3's massive MP base and Bungie's fanbase. No room for failure really.

As long as the game is still #2 on XBL all the time, I bet SOMEONE will keep putting out DLC for it
