Wow, I need to pay attention better. For whatever reason, I just automatically assumed Halo 3 Recon would be released as downloadable content when it comes out Fall of 09. As it turns out, Halo 3 Recon is going to be a standalone, disc-based game.

You won’t need the original Halo 3 to play this and Recon looks to have all of the original features such as four-player co-op and original multiplayer maps on top of the new maps as well.

And for those of you who keep saying this is going to turn into some kind of stealth action game, it’s not. It’s still going to be the Halo you know, except minus one Master Chief.

So long as this comes out at a reasonable price, I'll be happy. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't milk Recon for the standard $60 price tag.

The last thing we need is another $60 Halo - as those never seem to drop in price. Taking the Halo universe someplace without Master chief could be interesting.

So like... it plays with the full multiplayer component of Halo 3, but has content the original doesn't... so I guess this means there will be another map pack for sale for the original then? I guess? I dunno, doesn't really concern me anyways.

I guess what I find most disappointing about this... this game will come out in one year, and it won't be anything graphically different than Halo 3. I was really hoping that if Bungie were to do another Halo game, they would do something stylistically different than what I would consider a lackluster art direction in Halo 3.

Sounds like it could be fun, but I hope it uses a unique dynamic. Halo is fun and all, but I'd like some variation.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic. I enjoy Halo 3's gameplay so this news isn't really a bad thing for me. Stealth games really aren't my thing with the exception of MGS4.

And, yeah. I need some more info on the multiplayer. How is this going to be handled? Is it going to add to the original game, or what? This is confusing...

CTZ, you should know better. We're talking about Microsoft.

I thought that there were rumors instead that it would be a squad-based shooter? I remember people pointed out that a key guy from Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six (forgot his name) had joined the team and was pretty high up.

@ Necros

You can never really tell with these things. Don't forget that Bungie is huge now and there could be something in the works. Rumors are rumors for a reason though.

@ COXBLASTER

"I would consider a lackluster art direction in Halo 3."

I have to disagree with that. The game was fairly stylized. It wasn't gray and brown. It wasn't trying to be that tired out gritty look that's found in Gears of War and Call of Duty.

It wasn't Bioshock, but it certainly wasn't bland.

I don't know why they even called it "Halo 3" if it's going to have a different character and storyline. It would sound better as just "Halo: Recon".

Hopefully as the title suggests, the gameplay is a more strategic shooter and not so run-and gun.

Odd is all I can really think to say until I find out some more about this thing. At least that explains why it won't be out for a year.

It seems like it could be worth another $60. I mean, we've paid full price for Halo 2 and Halo 3, even though they were essentially the same game as the first. If it fleshes out the storyline a bit more and brings fun gameplay to the table, then it's worth it.

I don't know what to think. Is it still an expansion? How is it expanding? and I going to spend $160 on a special edition? (probably) Plus waiting a year is kind of a turn off, I wan't some content naow.

It'll be $60 for the regular version. The limited collector's edition will be something like $100.

Redgopher: If it's more than $40 it is.... homosexual?

Expand your vocabulary just a tiny bit and try not to associate negativity with a word which is commonly associated with a sexual preference.

Prick.

It's unfair to say that this won't turn into a stealth action game. The press release says that it will put more of an emphasis on stealth and cunning. While that doesn't mean it's turning into MGS or Splinter Cell, it's fair to say that there will be more dynamic elements in this one, than in the previous games.

He probably meant that anything more than $40 would be really happy, almost giddy. :D

It's Bungie's way of striking back at the COD4 crowd who say Halo isn't "real" enough. Simple as that.
