Halo 3 promotion lets you experience the game on an IMAX screen photo

Unless by some cruel misfortune, you are not only blind, but deaf too, you already know that the Halo 3 marketing blitz is in full effect. You’ve seen the commercials, tried the game’s official beverage, and you've even heard that one pesky EB Games employee constantly ask if “you want to preorder Halo 3, because, you know, it’s cool.”

Now, Pontiac is going to help create more hype (is that even possible?) with its "First to Play" events. The promotion is going to give gamers a chance to play Halo 3 on IMAX screens in New York and San Francisco.

Additionally, you can also enter to win a copy of the game and receive it “by September 24, 2007.” Yes, that’s one whole freakin' day before your friends will get their dirty hands on Halo 3.

By going to this Web site, you'll be able to choose which contest you want to partake in -- the IMAX one or the chance to get a copy of Halo 3 one day before everyone else. Unfortunately, you must be a legal U.S. resident and 18 years or older to enter.

Um.... Overhype much?

I'm sure the game will be great but... Imax screens?

That's just stupid.

I want to play Brawl on an IMAX screen.

Or play pokemon, the original, in japanese, on the IMAX, with the original green game boy color screen.

8 foot tall pixels FTW!

Entering for a free copy. It'd be cool to save $60.

Wow, I think they finally found something to make IMAX theatres even less useful...

So... I just did it, for kicks and giggles. Apparently, all I have to do is be one of the first 200 to show up at the given location. Definitely doable, but do I really want to stand there all day to get in? No. No I do not. If some fancy takes me and I do end up going, I can bring a guest though.

We'll see. Probably not, but we'll see.

I have to admit..i was caught up in the hype just a little bit. Maybe because the commercials..stupid drinks, burger king meals(which i was savvy enough to avoid)< and the Gamestop kid made it seem like pre ordering the game would cure someone of cancer. It's funny to see how caught up people get in this shit...we all forget that at the end of the day Halo is a video game..albeit a good one all this excess stuff is so useless..the game will sell on it's own merit of being good not because you could play on the ooooooooooo IMAX or drink a Mountain Dew with the MC on the front. so what. Anyway rant done..but i can only pity myself that im not cool enough to blow 129.99$ for LEGENDARY EDITION and that o so special shiny Spartan helmet of uselessness much to the dismay of the aforementioned Gamestop kid who looked at me like i was a shame to the gaming community o well shame on me for no buyin useless shit

Just release the fucking game already so we don't have to hear about anymore of these asinine promotional gimmicks. You'd think it was Jesus coming back in Spartan armor.

Yeah, i "won" a "chance" to be the "first to play". In New York. 17 hours away. On a Thursday (?). Also, they are giving away 2500 such "chances" and only the first 200 actually get in on the day of. Not much of a prize if you ask me.

I'm an unashamed Halo fanatic. I just love being able to sit down, get into a competitive, 8 minute game, at any time of day with minimal wait is huge to a soon-to-be 30 year old with less time for gaming these days. Hell, I love the twitch gameplay too- feel like I'm keeping my self younger.

So I think, if I lived in one of these cities, that this would be cool as hell. To each his own, I suppose.

@Grim: There's a typo in your post's title, by the way (lose the apostrophe :) )

Hmm...The thought of Master Chief's codpiece being 3x larger than my car is rather disturbing.

I bought the game fuel (only because I had a B1G1 coupon for a 20 oz and I like trying new flavors), it took me like a week to drink the 20 oz bottle because it was so sugary, I had to drink it a little at a time. The flavor was pretty good but oh please come out with a diet version of all these flavored sodas!

I figured out the real marketing ploy behind this. They get 2000 people to line up in New York City and San Fran, people are going to notice. All it takes are a few well placed "Halo 3" and "Pontiac" banners, and already they have a much more effective marketing strategy than most games. And car companies.
