Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

As a means of breaking up our day-long marathon Halo 3 campaign experience earlier this week, the good people at Bungie brought us sandwiches and showed off a series of ads for the forthcoming release. Honestly, I was kinda... blown away. No CG? No silly movie trailer announcer dude?

Sure, we've seen the whole overwrought emotional impact thang in previous Microsoft ad campaigns such as Gears of War, but what really strikes me about the Halo 3 spots is the breathtaking and massive model featued in other ads. This making-of video, cleverly disguised within the same History Channel-esque context as the other spots, shows just how much work was put into the creation of the piece. Quite an undertaking but as one of the other attendees at the event put it, "I think Microsoft can afford it."

Yeah, probably. Hit the jump for the extended "Believe" trailer, which also features the monument.

That is a great ad. I like. Doesn't make me want the game anymore than I already did, but very nice.

I have to say, I'm sick to death of Halo 3, but these Ken Burns-esque documentary style ads are very nice.

I don't expect much from ads these days but these two are a shining example of how the creativity of video games can transend the game experience. Hopefully more ads like these are created and seen by "non-gamers" and taken seriously. Because, when it comes down to it, it is an art form.

If you can't appreciate the awesomeness of this ad, then you=fail, regardless of Halo like or dislike.

So can fanboys now all stop hoping that Master Chief is a woman or was that something that was absolutely confirmed a while ago?

Yes Sony please take note. This is what makes a good ad. Not a crying baby. Not 4 white walls. We don't want to leave you ad trying to figure out that the fuck we just saw.

What they need to do is a TV spot with Boston's More Than A Feeling playing in the background.

These ads are well done. A lot of time and money went into that model.

For anyone who isn't a foaming-at-the-mouth Halo fan, though, they look really pretentious. Way to spend millions of dollars doing a retrospective on FANTASY. Might as well make a documentary about Sonic the Hedgehog.

This is why we can't have nice things.

That may be true Vos, but remember that it's the people who create the ad, not the people paying for it, that ultimately have their hands on the project. I think any artist would be incredibly proud of this diorama and the story around it, no matter where his paycheck came from. Microsoft should be lauded for actually trying to do something different and memorable instead of shoving pre-rendered FMVs down our throats.

the whole monument one is kinda meh because of the guy talking.....trying to convince the viewer to get some sort of emotional connection with chief, who has always been a bland, lets blow something the fuck up kind of character, makes me feel embarrassed watching it. Literally.

However.....the one with the piano and stuff is really good i must admit. I may not be the first to come up with this assessment, but i think this whole figurine depicted battle is going to be the final level on Halo 3, which really seems like it is going to be one intense adrenaline ride. Which is always fun

Conclusion: Halo 3 is going to be a badass game, which i will purchase. I'm not going to stand here and claim it to be the best, but i'm not going to go with the generic opinion of "wow cool trailer, really liked it, but still not buying it" approach. Great trailer, but the believe thing is kind of fucking stupid.

However, you can't deny that our country's society has become obsessed with vanity. Which is kind of what happened to the Rome....well, before it fell. Won't be any Chief around to save our ass then though, because it won't be the covenant doing the damage.

This is brilliant stuff. I need to make some congratulatory calls next week, I know some peeps who may have worked on this. Some few folks in the ad industry have figured out how to get multinational corporations to pay for experimental short film, this is by some of those folks.

You know, I totally posted a comment here yesterday and the Dtoid totally ate it like a bitch.

Anyway, the gist of what I said was, the "Believe" ad is brilliant. It gave me chills and almost brought a tear to my eye. That's what I love about Halo. It is, essentially, a sci-fi/fantasy action epic, much in the same vein as the LOTR movies, or Star Wars. Sure, it may not be an intellectual masterpiece like, say, Metal Gear Solid, but it certainly does a brilliant job with its mythos and giving the audience those action movie "money shots" - such as a lifeless Chief suddenly coming to life, activating a plasma, and looking at the camera. Well-played, Bungie.
