On a less tongue in cheek note, I'm curious what EA could do to change the Madden release cycle. The series peaked commercially in 2006 and sales have decreased to half of what they were since then. Critically the series saw much better days on last generation then it has on this one, and I think that has a lot to do with the lack of competition from 2K (and in the earlier days, Blitz and GameDay).

Then again, even with the lowest critical reception the series has ever seen last year, it still sold over 5 million copies. Most publishers would kill for those numbers. Most publishers also don't have to spend hundreds of millions to exclusively license the NFL for use in a video game. It remains to be seen how much EA actually profits off Madden each year.

So what's the solution? Buy a base product and pay a monthly subscription fee for updates? That seems like the only viable option EA might be willing to try.

When is EAs license over? I used to be such a hardcore Madden fan in college, but quit EA a few years ago. So sick of the lack of competition.

When will it end? Anyone know/

Thing is most of these sports games like MADDEN and FIFA are not bad at all, and really its just that they are the same every year, meaning that if you buy one once every few years in the budget corner its actually quite a decent deal.

Both games add some improvement every year, also with these franchisees you'll get to pick it up for half the price if you wait just a month before getting it.

I just wish they could fix the gameplay problems. Its always a new surprise for what's broken every year. That's the life of a sports gamer though
