Half of PS3 owners have a PSP, only it's probably dusty or smudged photo

Around of a half of PlayStation 3 owners have a PlayStation Portable. That means that roughly 50 percent of PlayStation 3 owners have access to a handheld that needs more quality games.

The information stems from a message board posting by Christian Svennson, Capcom’s vice president of strategic planning and business development. Along with having one of the largest titles in corporate history, he also enjoys playing games. According to his profile, he is currently traversing Warhammer Online, LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, and Valkyria Chronicles. He also likes techno and Terry Pratchett.

I’m actually surprised that this number wasn’t tossed out in the anniversary post we ran yesterday. It seems significant in terms of development – as in the possibility that we could see more PSP integration with traditional games. Perhaps instead of messing with the SIXAXIS in future Ratchet & Clank games, we could optionally navigate the ball through a maze with a PSP. Then again, who knows how long this number has been hanging around and unutilized.

What do you guys think? Any significance? If that number gets higher do you think we could see some Pokemon Stadium-ish games?

I've been to lazy to fix my PSP since it broke, but I probably wouldn't be playing it even if the damn thing worked.

if they could do something like PacMan vs did on the GameCube that would be amazing, but I don't know if it would be possible with any of the current Sony IPs.
Maybe they could throw objective info and inventory management on the PSP for rpgs but other than that I can't see a way to implement it that would streamline gameplay rather than make it clunky and awkward.

My wife and I have a psp each and we share the PS3, so that would make 200% in my house. I would really like to see more/better integration between the two. Involving games namely.

I bought one and returned it-not enough software to keep me interested. Also if it only had a hinged lid oh about 1/8 inch thick that hinged at the top and closed over the entire front with a snap or clasp on the bottowm front. That way it would protect the screen without having to carry a case around and you could flip open the front cover for shade from sunlight etc for better outside gaming. I was always paranoid that when or if it dropped that nice lcd would bust. Poor design to say the least. But its hardware has great potential if only more than 2 or 3 good games a year were released. Now that I have an r4ds for my ds I can do all the multimedia things I used to do with my psp-only its more sturdy, compact and better designed.

I have both and I play both of them regularly.
why do people think of dust when they think of the psp? or is it some old internet meme?

I would have had both if my PSP hadn't bricked during the 5.0 update. I could probably find a way to fix it but it isn't worth enough to me to go out of my way.

I own a PS3 but no PSP...yet! I'll probably get one if LBP actually comes out on it or if the PS3-to-PSP integration is put to greater use. Or if I get one as a gift. I was expecting a revolution from Wii-to-DS integration after the GC and GBA but so far all we've really gotten is demos. Honestly where is my Four Swords Adventure, Nintendo!?

Why do people still assume that the PSP has no games?

Because I have like 20+...

I have a PSP but no PS3...yet. PSP-1000 is spotless too and used frequently. Buying a PS3 soon, now that I know there won't be a price drop this holiday. Or maybe I'll be able to hold off till next year >_<...damn Persona 4 and Valkyria Chronicles attractiveness!

Well, I have both and both are played regularly. Though I give mad props to the Wii and DS, cuz of course according to sales numbers everyone and their mamma should have a DS by now, I'm still not that interested in them. The PS3 and PSP works fine for me, and since I take so long beating games (cuz my life doesn't really permit more than an hour a day or so to gaming), that I'm still enjoying titles like Burnout, LBP, and Patapon. I like to take my time with games, namely RPGs, without any GameFAQS and with this combo I have no complaints on my end. I can understand people having much more free time and beating games in like a day, but with me it works out perfectly.

I will admit, when I do play games, especially fighting games with my brothers, we all get into and I think in that sense I'm a hardcore gamer... but since the quanity of games I play is little due to life and such, I guess I could almost be concidered a casual gamer? So, putting them together, what does that make me... a half-breed?

I have a PS3 and PSP (with about a dozen good games) though I haven't played my PSP in a while.

I could definitely go for some Crystal Chronicles type stuff for the PS3/PSP, though my only problem with this is I don't really have any friends with PSPs.

Really? You would think with people hacking the heck out of their PSPs they would play it more. I don't have a PS3 so I can't speak but I play my PSP quite a bit.

@psy-phi

Your SOL as far as Persona 4 is concerned unless you plan on buying a 60gb model off ebay since the new 80gb models they have in stores now have no ps2 backwards compatibility.

I've got a PS3 and love it, I wouldn't mind getting a PSP, but I would mainly want to play ROMs on it. Actually, I would be afraid that I might stop using it, $300 AU is a fair bit to drop when I still have fair amount of other gear I want to get...
