Half-Life 2: Orange Box dated photo

Valve has confirmed with Shacknews that one of the best values in gaming, Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, will be shipping on October 9, 2007. For those who've been too busy coddling their plush Master Chief toys to care, The Orange Box is a behemoth of a product, a dream collection that sounds like a coked up fanboy's imagination gone wild.

Packed in will be the original Half-Life 2, last year's Half-Life: Episode One, as well as the the brand new chapter, Half-Life: Episode Two. As if that wasn't enough, Valve will be throwing in the all-new Team Fortress 2 and the cooler-than-heck DigiPen student project turned all fancy, Portal. The PC version of the suite will be distributed over Valve's Steam service, but retail hags and console owners (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, only) can pick up their copies in stores for $49.99 and $59.99, respectively.

October can't come soon enough, and I certainly hope Valve can deliver the product on time. I'm going to need something to do while everybody I know is too busy playing Halo 3 to shower, eat, or talk to me.

One of the reasons why I wanted a 360 or PS3 since I have a Mac.

I remember when I actually wanted this game.

I just want to play Portal. >_<

I assume "$49.99 and $59.99, respectively" means $49.99 for the PC-owning "retail hags" and $59.99 for console owners?

Because the 360 version costing more than the PS3 version would just be crazy talk.

Is there going to be a cheaper pack that just has Episode 2, TF2, and Portal for those who already own the first parts of the series?

based on what i've seen of team fortress 2, that alone sounds like a bargain at $60, w/ hl2 you really can't go wrong.

@Aerox

I think they do, but only via Steam. There was going to be a PC retail box with just Ep. 2, TF2, and Portal called the Black Box, but that got the axe.

@ Aerox:

NO

Originally they were planning a Black box on the PC and the Orange box on the PC, 360, and PS3. But for reasons unknown (or I just forget) they scrapped the Black box and you have to get the whole bundled deal.

Their thoughts were if you already own the originals, you can give them to a friend.

If you already have the games, previous experience says that the HL episode will probably be $19.99 or the pack that's available. I will be buying the pack though, can't use my bro's Steam forever!

Can't wait to get my hands on Portal and if I have half as much fun in TF2 as I did in TF1 for Quake, I may have to quit my job

Makes me glad I held off on HL2 until I upgraded my PC (which will probably still not happen until long after I get a 360). Now I can get everything I missed and some extra stuff all in the same package.

I'll admit that Team Fortress 2 looks pretty sweet, but I play games online about twice a year, so its just fluff for me.

It's gonna have online play for 360 right? Unlike HL2 for Xbox... SO pissed when I took that game home only to discover no multiplayer.

Oh yay.

Let me prepare all my ducks in this virtual row I have here.

The Simpsons Game
Bioshock
Metroid Prime 3
Halo 3 (in cheap plastic case form)
Mass Effect
GTAIV
Half Life 2:Orange
Beautiful Katamari
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Super Mario Galaxy

Guys? STOP IT!
For all these awesome releases that are coming, I've got shit to play right now. Right now, I'm playing Lego Star Wars, Crackdown, and Puzzle Quest. ANYONE of the above listed games could rectify my imminent boredom and put cash in your pocket. You game companies are RETARDS for staggering a deluge of games in such a short time frame. As a result, most of these titles will go unpurchased until sometime next year. Games like this one.

So, my 2008 list is lookin' pretty nice. Too bad I couldn't get more of these games NOW.

Oh my sweet baby jesus. TF2 Finally has a date? Can it be???? It has been over 10 years since the original TF team announced TF2 for Quake 2... and now it is finally going to be in my hands? Now all we need is DNF and the world will explode!

Apart from tf2 I really am looking forward to Episode 2 and Portal. Episode 1 in itself was amazing but very short, the action in episode 1 felt more intense then half-life 2's main single player did. I really cannot wait for this package and such a good deal it is ;D

Come on joelseph, I'm just a big a fan of TF as you are if not more. Sure, in the original TF and TFC, grenades were everything. But this time around there are ALOT of changes and the loss of grenades aren't supposed to effect much at all. But hey, also remember there are mods. So you never know, they could totally add grenades later! :D

do yo know if october is a worldwide date cause gamestop here in Ireland has it penned for September 29 and it's too close to Halo3 for me. Don't get me wrong, i prefer Half Life and will defo play it more than Halo, still such a conflict of interest though

SpiderChrist, usually gamestop & eb games have their dates as estimations untill an offical date is given. Since this date was just announced over the past few days I would expect gamestop to change its date within the month. It usually takes them awhile to catch up with those.

Hoping that Valve offers the option to buy this package without Half-Life 2 via Steam, as I'd rather not just burn money on a copy of a game I already have. This package just might persuade me to install Windows on my MacBook Pro, which I've been putting off for many, many months until I've absolutely had to do it, and when this package is out, I think I have to do it.
