While hacking's chief domain is the PC, not even console users are safe from griefers who feel that modding a game purely to piss other people off will somehow stop them from being virgins. Reports indicate that griefers are hacking the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead, as if the recent uprising of typical Xbox Live douchebags wasn't enough to ruin the gameplay.

"Recently, I joined a [Versus] game and found myself in a safe house at the beginning of a chapter," claims one witness. "Suddenly, about 30 witches spawned in the safe house with me, followed by two tanks."

This seems to point to a larger problem with Valve's Source engine in particular. While this anecdote may not hold water on its own, it becomes more feasible, and points to a bigger problem, when we take into account the fact that hackers have been ruining the 360 version of Team Fortress 2 for the past month.

Hopefully, a patch is coming, because it looks like someone is exploiting Source to ruin the experiences of Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead on the 360. I do so hate to see such pathetic little wankers get away with that rubbish for too long.

I'm with Jim, the ole "Internet Bullies" are at it again. I guess just like any person growing up, the children who aim at cheating to win will eventually find out that girls don't think "Hacking" is worth dropping their panties. I haven't played the console version of TF2 in so long that until Steam puts out dlc for it, I don't really a reason to play it.

Umm this isn't really cheating, when the source engine is capable of this. People have been doing this stuff since the demo on the pc version they are simple console commands. What surprises me is how someone managed to get the console working on the 360 version.

Kudos to the hackers for researching all that stuff and actually making it work on a 360. Kudos also to the source engine for it's flexibility. It can do all these tricks without even so much as a hickup. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

No Kudos to Valve for not seeing this coming and hardening the engine against these kinds of attacks.

But playing Valve games on a 360 isn't a such a good idea in the first place. They really only shine on the PC.

Some of this stuff seems really cool to mess around with, but I wouldn't want it in a serious versus game or anything.

Godzilla zombies looks kinda fun.

Lol at the tutorial block. I'm pretty sure I can still see it.

I think this would be pretty cool actually as long as it stays out of normal games. Playing with superjumps and being able to spawn ridiculous amounts of weapons would at least keep the game fun for a little longer until the maps start getting old.

Chronoswing, it is cheating when you use said commands to easily play the game. Infinite health ah?

The PC version of course has the console, but it's disabled when you're online, except if the server allows it. Cheat and you get permabanned from that server, accumulate enough offenses and you lose your Steam account with all your games. Kind makes you think twice about cheating.

how is this ruining the game exactly? It seems pretty fun to add a bit of variety now and then. Not that Id like to take on 30 witches and 5 tanks or anything like that. I just thought it was cool.

I'm amazed at the people who are fine with this.

If I go into a room just trying to play the fucking game, and I have to deal with some asshole who's spawning tanks everywhere while running around with unlimited health while laughing his ass off over his mic, then somethings wrong. And thats just fucking depressing.

LOL that video. They are making it sound like they are 1337 haxors. First bit they are just playing with the sky box then they are just using various console commands with cheats 1.

The real failing is matchmaking, you should be able to choose to not play with cheats 1. None of those are hax though they are just console stuff put there for people that are developing their own content and often get abused.

They better get rid of this before the inevitable DLC makes it's way onto 360 (There is no way they aren't hearing the complaints about length). It would suck if new levels came out with all these mods out.

This reminds me of the horrible amount of modding there was in Halo 2. I don't know what Bungie or MS did, but they have to let Valve in on it. There is virtually no modding in Halo 3.

If you wanna play with this shit then well done, as for it working over xbox live without my knowledge then suck my balls. It is the equivalent of watching Toy Story only to find Woody has a woody and that Buzz is now Sylvester Stallone with a tutu. Sure it is fun to mess with if that floats yer boat but over xbox live it is just vandalism.

@seamonkey420: first Google result, http://www.gamestyle.net/news/3142 . PS3 is no less prone to this garbage than the 360 is. Of course, it doesn't have a solid online experience so I don't know why you'd bother (or why you'd develop L4D for it...)

I hope they patch it :(

To everyone who says that it's better on the PC version - you're probably right insofar as graphics and quality of people playing them go, I buy most every game available for both on the PC. This game, however, is different. Maybe you guys should get some friends, not the internet kind, but the physical kind. The kind you can have sit in your living room with you and play together with. That's what makes this game for the 360 so appealing.

Source engine has always been prone to hacking. It's easy to go out of the levels' boundries. For example, the large player/monsters in the video is simply getting to the "Skybox" outside the map.

Time for a bit of a lesson on the Source Engine folks

Skybox - It is a designated (by the author of the map) area outside the map that has a scaled down version of what objects appear outside of the map. This scaled down version allows better performance because it takes that scaled down version and projects it I believe 16 times larger than the small version. (its been a while since I've made a map using a skybox..since I've been making simple DM maps on CS...anyways I do think its 16 times though, specifics dont really matter)

Anyway, this projected version is non-interactive, you simply go through it and no bullet holes, s.o on so forth, thus making it more performance savvy.

Oh and that "smaller city" on the video, is part of the skybox, not the actual interactive map.

The demo I played was damn horrible experance I rather inject hot sauce into my veins than get stuck playing it.

and god who the hell cares about spit screen anywway? PC don't have to put up with that crap. God that just brings back horrible memories of the bad n64 shooters like goldeneye and and lame Halo co op with bad framerates on a postage stamp sized part of the screen rather than having all 50 inches to your self..

This is just like that DLC for Crackdown that let you spawn cars and barrels and change the time of day and whatnot. Griefing clearly isn't acceptable (unless it is artistically delivered as with Team Roomba), but this is just a bit of fun.

The PC version is great for these fun little hacks. There is something hilariously satisfying about spawning 4 tanks all with %10 health, or 4 Boomers in the middle of a small corridor. You can't knock that for pure entertainment value.

They've somehow managed to execute console commands on the 360, and hilariously enough, apparently sv_cheats isn't locking them because the 360 dev just assumed nobody could enter console commands. It was left on probably for testing and debugging during the beta stage.

The good news is if that's all it is, console commands, and it can be fixed with sv_cheats 0 as a patch, then it shouldn't be too hard. The bad news is that you're gaming on a system ruled by shitheads and that single line patch is going to take months to arrive if ever. Sorry!

This is cheating plain and simple. Just because the source engine has the tools available for you to do this doesn't mean you should. Especially when you are just going to fuck with other people.

On a side note I'm could careless if you cheat, as long as you don't piss me off. because honestly you are going to need all the help you can get in order to do the achievement for not taking damage after calling the chopper. That shit is impossible.

Do you have to host a game for this to work? If so then it's pretty standard. Welcome to the world of online gaming where you have to search through hundreds of funmap servers when your in the mood for actually playing the regular game.

If anyone can join a game and do this though, it's weak.

Or you could be an ass and make your character vocalize their death cry instead(seriously, Zoey's are creepy)

Hmmm...well you can't really complain about people refusing to abandon the likes of Halo 3 and play something new, then complain that the very people who you urged to try a new game have moved on and ruined a different game.

That's why I never complain about Halo 3 players not expanding their horizons. I don't play Halo 3, and I would love it if they played nothing but Halo games for the rest of their lives, instead of spreading themselves out and ruining all the other Live games.

Jim, hacking isn't really a problem on the 360 port of Team Fortress 2. There are exploiters, using glitches that Valve accidentally left in the game, but that's not hacking. I have, however, seen hacks, but they've been more fun than anything else, i.e. low gravity mods.

Anyway, I hate people, sometimes.
