While hacking's chief domain is the PC, not even console users are safe from griefers who feel that modding a game purely to piss other people off will somehow stop them from being virgins. Reports indicate that griefers are hacking the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead, as if the recent uprising of typical Xbox Live douchebags wasn't enough to ruin the gameplay.
"Recently, I joined a [Versus] game and found myself in a safe house at the beginning of a chapter," claims one witness. "Suddenly, about 30 witches spawned in the safe house with me, followed by two tanks."
This seems to point to a larger problem with Valve's Source engine in particular. While this anecdote may not hold water on its own, it becomes more feasible, and points to a bigger problem, when we take into account the fact that hackers have been ruining the 360 version of Team Fortress 2 for the past month.
Hopefully, a patch is coming, because it looks like someone is exploiting Source to ruin the experiences of Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead on the 360. I do so hate to see such pathetic little wankers get away with that rubbish for too long.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
No Kudos to Valve for not seeing this coming and hardening the engine against these kinds of attacks.
But playing Valve games on a 360 isn't a such a good idea in the first place. They really only shine on the PC.
Godzilla zombies looks kinda fun.
seriously though kind of fudge up
well i know what I'm not picking up now
I think this would be pretty cool actually as long as it stays out of normal games. Playing with superjumps and being able to spawn ridiculous amounts of weapons would at least keep the game fun for a little longer until the maps start getting old.
The PC version of course has the console, but it's disabled when you're online, except if the server allows it. Cheat and you get permabanned from that server, accumulate enough offenses and you lose your Steam account with all your games. Kind makes you think twice about cheating.
Youve been hating on waaaay too many things lately Jim. Dont be such a hater man.
death to consoles!
I'm sure it would crash the shit out of the 360 though.
Ok then
If I go into a room just trying to play the fucking game, and I have to deal with some asshole who's spawning tanks everywhere while running around with unlimited health while laughing his ass off over his mic, then somethings wrong. And thats just fucking depressing.
However, if you don't want to have a crazy experience like that, you shouldn't have to.
The real failing is matchmaking, you should be able to choose to not play with cheats 1. None of those are hax though they are just console stuff put there for people that are developing their own content and often get abused.
This reminds me of the horrible amount of modding there was in Halo 2. I don't know what Bungie or MS did, but they have to let Valve in on it. There is virtually no modding in Halo 3.
and again to those saying it has, show me your proof! a video of a backup on a dev ps3 is not proof imo.
I hope they patch it :(

PC can haz split screen co-op too!
Oh my god the dude use the z_health and z_spawn mob ent_fire !self setteam 3 commands he hxxors.
Right Jim it ruins the game those bastards!
What ever will the console boys do! Oh nos valve we needs patch console boys don't want the server commands left over from the PC port oh noes!>!
Get over it.
Time for a bit of a lesson on the Source Engine folks
Skybox - It is a designated (by the author of the map) area outside the map that has a scaled down version of what objects appear outside of the map. This scaled down version allows better performance because it takes that scaled down version and projects it I believe 16 times larger than the small version. (its been a while since I've made a map using a skybox..since I've been making simple DM maps on CS...anyways I do think its 16 times though, specifics dont really matter)
Anyway, this projected version is non-interactive, you simply go through it and no bullet holes, s.o on so forth, thus making it more performance savvy.
Oh and that "smaller city" on the video, is part of the skybox, not the actual interactive map.
The demo I played was damn horrible experance I rather inject hot sauce into my veins than get stuck playing it.
and god who the hell cares about spit screen anywway? PC don't have to put up with that crap. God that just brings back horrible memories of the bad n64 shooters like goldeneye and and lame Halo co op with bad framerates on a postage stamp sized part of the screen rather than having all 50 inches to your self..
The PC version is great for these fun little hacks. There is something hilariously satisfying about spawning 4 tanks all with %10 health, or 4 Boomers in the middle of a small corridor. You can't knock that for pure entertainment value.
reminds me of gamespot banning your posts if you call the poster out on something.
The good news is if that's all it is, console commands, and it can be fixed with sv_cheats 0 as a patch, then it shouldn't be too hard. The bad news is that you're gaming on a system ruled by shitheads and that single line patch is going to take months to arrive if ever. Sorry!
On a side note I'm could careless if you cheat, as long as you don't piss me off. because honestly you are going to need all the help you can get in order to do the achievement for not taking damage after calling the chopper. That shit is impossible.
If anyone can join a game and do this though, it's weak.
Or you could be an ass and make your character vocalize their death cry instead(seriously, Zoey's are creepy)
Good work, XBox live.
That's why I never complain about Halo 3 players not expanding their horizons. I don't play Halo 3, and I would love it if they played nothing but Halo games for the rest of their lives, instead of spreading themselves out and ruining all the other Live games.
Anyway, I hate people, sometimes.
VALVE just issued a statement they patched their servers to prevent cheating and are working on a user end server patch in the next few days
