Hackers allegedly planning third attack on Sony photo

After weeks of downtime and PR nightmares, you'd think Sony's had enough. Unless you're one of several hackers recently spotted planning a third attack on the company's network. Seriously guys, I think everybody's had enough.

According to reports, the hackers are quite openly discussing their next move, and plan to publicize the information they reap -- which could include the personal details of customers. They claim to have already infiltrated some of Sony's servers in the wake of the previous two breaches.

If this attack does go down, it's supposed to do so this weekend. Brace yourselves!

If anything, this'll be a test of Sony's new security measures but even I -- a guy who holds Sony culpable to a large degree -- is starting to feel sorry for the PS3 platform holder. Can we not go back to trolling racists and homophobes online, rather than videogame companies?

FFS. I'm getting sick of this. All I want to know is that my details aren't compromised and to feel safe on the PS3.

I officially do not give a fuck about anything regarding Sony and hackers anymore. Seriously, 50% of news stories on game sites is Sony related.

Whatever point that was trying to be proven has been done. These people just need to let this go. I think mostly everyone just wants this whole thing to be over and done with so we can get back online.

This is proof that it isn't Anonymous.

These attacks aren't just an attempt to inconvenience a big evil corporation. The attacks inconvenience millions of gamers. Anonymous wouldn't want to prevent gamers from playing their games, nor would they want to steal credit card information from people.

This has absolutely nothing to do with "fighting the man" or standing up for the little guy, or freedom, etc. The hackers are just a bunch of jerks that don't care about video games at all.

As a PSN account holder I can honestly say that when the first attack happened, I was kind of in the Anon court and felt that sony needed a little bit of a spanking, the second attack on them made me angry - if there is a third like this you describe, I want the attackers all dead

I hope Sony keeps PSN down another week just for spite. No company that employs thousands of people with families should have to deal with this shit.

@ Jim, i respect your opinion, but the only thing Sony are culpable of is trying to run an entertainment business and make some coin at the same time.

Seriously? We're giving credence to an article based on a second-hand story that somebody supposedly saw someone say this in an IRC chat room? Someone call that girl from Numb3rs--she speaks l33t. She'll bust those drug-running boats of the internets that pass in the night.

You know what... I was pissed this whole time PSN was down. But just now (while taking a crap at school) I just realized this shit is great for split screen multiplayer games. Multiplayer coop are what got me hooked on dynasty warriors, pumped about RE5, etc. We need a new phantasy star online like the gamecube/xbox one with local multiplayer. I'm just sad I didn't download that arcade xmen game. That would have been the bomb right now. Oh well guess it will be a wwf no mercy / hunters the reckoning weekend at my place this weekend.

If this is true, then this has to be Anonymous or someone with a grudge against Sony. If it was just people looking to steal people's personal information, then they would keep hitting the same target. Robbers don't rob the same bank over and over.

Actually, Sony is self-admittedly culpable of not putting any sort of proper security in place to protect their customers' personal and financial information. Which is a pretty big fucking deal.

So the lesson we learn from the PSN downtime is this:

1) Do not try to take hackers to court.

2) Do not think you have the right to defend your property as a business and bring those to justice who try to destroy it.

3) Hackers can openly blackmail companies without any punishment.

4) Gaming media has no fucking balls to stand against the hackers, because they would rather cower in the corner and do whatever it takes to not get hacked too. The Amnesia effect, if you will towards hackers. You dare not look at them or they will fuck you up too.

5) Gaming media have little to no support for the ones they make their money from.

The real sad thing is, this whole situation has now changed the face of gaming. We are all held hostage by the hackers if we enjoy online gaming. It is Sony now who are suffering and all its online users. But who next? Microsoft? Unless the gaming industry as a whole defends itself now and actually has the backbone to even remotely support Sony on this, they are simply playing into the hands of these hackers, which is bad for gaming.

I agree with mrplow8 . if this happens, it was not someone trying to get money, nut a complete asshole trying to make everyone with a PSN account miserable. Just stop it. I do no want their protection or that they fight for me. I just want to play my games.

I hope the catch at least a few of these fuck faces, and put them way for a long long time. They need to find some of them, and ruin them so badly they'll never recover.

I can't help but wonder if any of this would have happened if they hadn't gone so easy on GeoHatz? They didn't scare anyone with the fairy slap on the wrist he got in the end.

Christ, if this happens, I'm finding this group and kicking the shit out of them. I'm fucking tired of this "sticking it to the man" mentality. Sony did nothing to us and there is no reason why we should be punishing them.

A more effective means of punishing them would be to boycott their products. Not only does it solve your beef with Sony, but it prevents them from taking your money. Holy shit, who would've thought?!

See, everybody was blaming Anonymous and just like I said, it wasn't them. Yay for generalized assumptions!!

This is getting ridiculous, though, I feel sorry for people who only have a PS3. That's all my roomate has and he has been all worked up over this even talking about selling his PS3 and games and getting a 360. Tough times for Sony.

Also, this isn't really news, unless it's Sony pointing another invisible finger at the date they'll bring the new, improved PSN security online. Jusssssssayin.

it would be nice if sony just abandoned online all together, and started making some of the best single player and couch co-op/vs games ever.

with tv's the size they are now im not surprised there isnt MORE split screen games.

the way i see it, is no one is safe. if these hackers can easily get into sony equipment what makes you think they dont have or cant get your info any other way. they are simpley doing this to sony to ruin the company.
collateral damage remember? casualties of war? shoot the hostage?

@Samhain

1)As far as we know, Sony's security was almost shockinly bad, especially for such a large corporation. People trusted Sony and they took the gamble of not investing in security and lost. Chances are they not only ignored advice by hackers, but also their own security experts (unless those guys are complete retards).

2)The way Sony dealt with the breach of security is absolutely unworthy of a company. Not informing your customers that it's possible/likely that their data (or even credit card data) was stolen for MORE THAN A WEEK is absolutely horrible. There's no excuse for that.

Think of it like this: If your car gets stolen, you blame the thief. If you park an expensive car in the wrong neighbourhood, leave money in the car and don't lock it you better blame yourself.

Now granted it's difficult for us outsiders to judge the situation, especially how much of this is Sony's fault. But the way they dealt with the situation was bad and not worthy of defense by gamers.

This has gone to far, the rest of the gaming community should now take a hardline stance on this shit

Ms,nintendo, devs, producers, senior execs andost importantly we the gamers need to let these douche bags know that they are now just causing inconvenience and aggression to what was at the start a group of people trying to make point

/end rant

Why is everybody so pissed? It would be GREAT if they attempt another hack! Then Sony can intercept these cunts. I bet they sit behind several proxies but having at least some information is a start. Right now they nothing against them and finding these hackers is next to impossible.
