These attacks aren't just an attempt to inconvenience a big evil corporation. The attacks inconvenience millions of gamers. Anonymous wouldn't want to prevent gamers from playing their games, nor would they want to steal credit card information from people.
This has absolutely nothing to do with "fighting the man" or standing up for the little guy, or freedom, etc. The hackers are just a bunch of jerks that don't care about video games at all.
@ Jim, i respect your opinion, but the only thing Sony are culpable of is trying to run an entertainment business and make some coin at the same time.
I JUST WANT TO PLAY VIDEOGAMES GOD DAMN IT!
Actually, Sony is self-admittedly culpable of not putting any sort of proper security in place to protect their customers' personal and financial information. Which is a pretty big fucking deal.
some poeple you don't mess with because the people are with them, Graf has people with an extreme skillset.
1) Do not try to take hackers to court.
2) Do not think you have the right to defend your property as a business and bring those to justice who try to destroy it.
3) Hackers can openly blackmail companies without any punishment.
4) Gaming media has no fucking balls to stand against the hackers, because they would rather cower in the corner and do whatever it takes to not get hacked too. The Amnesia effect, if you will towards hackers. You dare not look at them or they will fuck you up too.
5) Gaming media have little to no support for the ones they make their money from.
The real sad thing is, this whole situation has now changed the face of gaming. We are all held hostage by the hackers if we enjoy online gaming. It is Sony now who are suffering and all its online users. But who next? Microsoft? Unless the gaming industry as a whole defends itself now and actually has the backbone to even remotely support Sony on this, they are simply playing into the hands of these hackers, which is bad for gaming.
@Scouser, best post ive seen regarding this mess.
I can't help but wonder if any of this would have happened if they hadn't gone so easy on GeoHatz? They didn't scare anyone with the fairy slap on the wrist he got in the end.
A more effective means of punishing them would be to boycott their products. Not only does it solve your beef with Sony, but it prevents them from taking your money. Holy shit, who would've thought?!
This is getting ridiculous, though, I feel sorry for people who only have a PS3. That's all my roomate has and he has been all worked up over this even talking about selling his PS3 and games and getting a 360. Tough times for Sony.
Also, this isn't really news, unless it's Sony pointing another invisible finger at the date they'll bring the new, improved PSN security online. Jusssssssayin.
with tv's the size they are now im not surprised there isnt MORE split screen games.
the way i see it, is no one is safe. if these hackers can easily get into sony equipment what makes you think they dont have or cant get your info any other way. they are simpley doing this to sony to ruin the company.
collateral damage remember? casualties of war? shoot the hostage?
1)As far as we know, Sony's security was almost shockinly bad, especially for such a large corporation. People trusted Sony and they took the gamble of not investing in security and lost. Chances are they not only ignored advice by hackers, but also their own security experts (unless those guys are complete retards).
2)The way Sony dealt with the breach of security is absolutely unworthy of a company. Not informing your customers that it's possible/likely that their data (or even credit card data) was stolen for MORE THAN A WEEK is absolutely horrible. There's no excuse for that.
Think of it like this: If your car gets stolen, you blame the thief. If you park an expensive car in the wrong neighbourhood, leave money in the car and don't lock it you better blame yourself.
Now granted it's difficult for us outsiders to judge the situation, especially how much of this is Sony's fault. But the way they dealt with the situation was bad and not worthy of defense by gamers.
This has gone to far, the rest of the gaming community should now take a hardline stance on this shit
Ms,nintendo, devs, producers, senior execs andost importantly we the gamers need to let these douche bags know that they are now just causing inconvenience and aggression to what was at the start a group of people trying to make point
