Hacker plays GoldenEye on the Wii

     Hacking

There is something to say about the level of dedication that this probably required. Either this guy is a mad genius, or he enjoys punishing himself by trying to rekindle his lost youth. Either way, I think this video is absolutely brilliant.

I cannot even recount how many thousands of times I must have karate chopped the guard stoically guarding the toilet by the grate early in the game. It’s amazing how relevant GoldenEye still is, and where it pops up. Hell, remember those rumors that were floating around about the title hitting Live Arcade? It’s too bad that the development team responsible for GoldenEye is not still together.

But we still have a new Bond game coming, except this time it’s with the infinitely sexier Daniel Craig. Ever see that dude’s abs? Quantum of Solace, Treyarch’s new rendition, looks pretty happening thus far. I wonder in ten years if we’ll see people emulating Quantum on the Xbox 1280?

Fuck me, I had forgotten how wonderful the music was in Goldeneye.

Oh, Goldeneye Source looks awesome also. Just saying..

@Visc: Why comment on how it looks? It's been playable for years.

This is neat, but for how objectionable the N64 controller is, I don't like playing Goldeneye/Perfect Dark with anything else.

So how easy is it to do this with any N64 ROM? Seemed like it took a while to load, but once it started going it worked like a charm. Pretty cool.

Golden eye is so dated, i'd rather play something like Orcarina or Get Force Gemini instead :P

Orcarina.

Also, I'd imagine with a hypothetical N64 emulator and rom of this game, along with Twilight Hacking your way to that emulator on your Wii, this could be accomplished in about 10 minutes. Then again, I only *saw someone* use the SNES emulator with this, so I'm not sure.

If you thought this was amazing, then you have no idea.

Yeah, cool and everything but we've been able to do this since... december or something? People gotta have something to play on their Wii's after all.

Daniel Craig is all well and good but I want a good James Bond game staring the only real James Bond: Sean Connery. That PS2 title was awful.

He appears to be using wad manager to load the game onto the system, so this is probably an injected virtual console game.Ripping out the heart of a N64 virtual console game and replacing it with the heart ripped out of a Golden Eye rom. There are loads of them about on the inter tubes.

i just don't know about this. i want to believe its true but his hands tell a different story, i just don't see his controller movements matching the screen. but i have no idea what kind of configuration the controls are set at so i'm taking this w/ a grain of salt.

How the hell is this news? You're really reaching out for anything to post man. Like Infneon said, we've been doing this since December. I doubt your job requirements include "post 10 news items per week," so please chill.

damn, the loading at the begining of the video took so long I got distracted by the post... 360 times 4 equals 1440 by the way =P

You see, this could have all been avoided, had Nintendo just ported one of the many free and open source N64, SNES, Megadrive (etc.) emulators to the Wii.

Then just sold us the roms at their original size, and a cheaper price.

They would have made a shed load more money, with less development effort.

But now, because we want our GoldenEye, the big N and Rare are going to miss a lot of future sales. Of course, I'm assuming Nintendo have the intelligence to release the best sellers of a console.
