Last week, Disney had a private behind-closed-doors peek at the trailer for the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film. But we weren't allowed to show it to you... so we used words.
Words are so boring. It appears Seanbajuice.com has gotten its hands on an early, low-ish quality version of the trailer and decided to put it on YouTube. It's better than nothing, but I think it illustrates a very important point -- this movie might not be completely crap.
Sure, it's very over-the-top in that Hollywood action-film way. Hell, this is Jerry Bruckheimer we're talking about here. But at least at its core, it does appear to stick close to the main points of the game's plot. Also, Jake Gyllenhaal is sooooo dreamy.
I dunno.. if you have have faith this movie will be any good.. you haven't been beaten down by what garbage hollywood spews out of its trillion dollar mouth. And that's OK.. good for you I say! As for me.. no thanks. Plenty of movies coming in the near future that actually look somewhat fun to watch.
It looks, ok, I guess. I just wished the trailer didn't give the entire plot of the movie and show us virtually everything that's going to happen, just in some random order to create 'excitement'.
You just can't take the superior medium that is video games and dumb it down to the passive, dimwitted, movie-going crowd. And if I sound unwillingly to give this movie a chance, it's because I have learned from the past: Video game movies can only work if you make the player forget that he could be having more fun as the character than watching the character. They take away the most important part of the game - the player.
And let's face it, movies are just video game cutscenes that go on too long.
When I hear "videogame film" this may be the only one where I could say it looks fairly good. Maybe we should get Jerry Bruckheimer to do videogame films. We may be able to rid ourselves of the curse that is "Uwe Boll"
Holy shit. Now I'm interested. Even if the plot's generic and Jake Gyllenhaal's accent sucks, I'm sure the CGI work and action sequences will make up for it.
Sure, video game movies are terrible as a general rule, but this trailer is starting to make me think we might see an exception sometime soon...>.>
It is by the same people that made Pirates of the Caribbean in the same way that it is by the same people that made Song of the South and Pearl Harbor.
I'll just say I'm cautiously optimistic. They shouldn't have spoiled so much with the trailer though and there's the good ol' Disney innuendo for the kids. They should definitely re-release the movie posters with that new font though.
That looked FUCKING AWESOME. There was tons of parkour, sands time travelling, witty banter between the Prince and girl on par with the SoT game... this looks like it will be fucking great. It helps that the story of the game (granted this isn't exactly the same) works well in a film setting anyway. Granted, I'm prepared to get totally let down, but right now this is looking fucking fantastic and I can't wait to see it.
@D-503
Who are you? And where did you kidnap that bunny??
Also, super stoked about this movie. Sure, it'll be pablum for the masses, but there's jumpy jumpy/slashy slashy with crazy stuff. I'll be entertained.
Jordan Mechner apparently wrote the first drafts of the script, so we'll see how it goes. I doubt the full movie will explain everything in such literal detail as the trailer.
Huh... i am an immense PoP fan, it's easily my favorite game franchise. i dont quite know how to feel about this trailer, it's clearly taken a little something from every PoP game since Sands of Time. it's got the basic plot of the first game, the costume from the second, the aesthetics and dagger-tail from the third, and Elika from the fourth.

We shall see how this turns out I guess.

@Tarvu: cute.
I would say that I would have faith for being from the creators of Pirates of the Caribbean, but the movies were awesome almost only for Jack Sparrow.
Granted, trailer does sell the movie well, still, after letdowns from fiascoes like Spider-man 3 i'd rather have as little hope as possible.
Frank: Do you believe in time travel?

Therefore this movie must be good...
