Guitar Hero U2 Edition in the works?

Guitar Hero U2 Edition in the works? photo
     Music

At this point, I think it's obvious that Activision has no real intentions of supporting Guitar Hero III with significant downloadable content. The next obvious step is Guitar Hero IV, which according to rumor (and a drunk, naked Captain Obvious), is already in the works.

While we've heard rumors of an Aerosmith-flavored Guitar Hero, check out this new bit of rumor, snagged from this "Quartermann" section of this month's Electronic Gaming Monthly:

We already know GH 4 is on its way (as well as a game based on the band Aerosmith), but I'm hearing two more Guitar Hero titles are also in the works, bringing GH3's sequel count to four. And one may star a group that rocks in mysterious ways.

This seems to be an obvious reference to Irish mega-group U2, who have sold a few albums since the early-80s. With Slash appearing in Guitar Hero III and most of its marketing, one could guess (and hope, actually) that this fourth sequel to a sequel will be Guns N' Roses-related. Or Slash's Snakepit. Or Earth, Wind, & Fire.

Waaah Bono uses his celebrity to help great causes and that makes me dislike him waaaaah. OK, back on topic. Activision, fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, I'm not giving you any more of my money.

If this was maybe the late eighties or early nineties, then a U2 themed rhythm game would be relevant.

U2 has some great tunes, love them or hate them, but I would never buy a game with only U2 songs in it. If they just had a bunch of U2 songs and a bunch of others, however, I would definitely consider it.

Mr Sadistic: What are you on? The majority of songs from all of the guitar hero games are from the 80s and 90s

I think I'm done with the Guitar Hero franchise in general. Unless Rock Band's DLC starts to dry up after a while and I just get starved for new songs, I can't imagine going back.

I'm saying that, love them or hate them, U2 isn't really that culturally relevant anymore, besides what Bono is doing.

U2 is awesome. Fuck the haters. I would absolutely LOVE to mash buttons to some of Edge's riffs. Would be a better fit for Rock Band though, in my opinion. At least that way you could get in on the Bono showboating. Which is also awesome, by the way.

Sewriously, someone go to a U2 concert and if you don't leave absolutely amazed, then you have no taste in music or showmanship.

They play perfectly, have some of the greatest rock songs recorded and they go all out to make each concert an absolute epic. I can see why people hate Bono, he annoys the hell out of me, but that doesn't change the fact they ar an awesome band with some great songs.

But I think this GH:U2 edition is pathetic, they should release it as DLC. But I suppose they're trying to rinse every last pound/Euro/ dollar out of GH they can.

Oh, Activision, if you hadn't insisted on pissing in the pool with regards to the PS3 guitars, I would be very interested in this news. Until you fix that, despite my fondness for the band, I won't be buying another Guitar Hero game, with or without you.

Being Irish i should support this but i just dont want to see a U2 game.

It would totally suck balls and would be better off on Rock Band.

How about entire Joshua Tree album on Rock Band. Ok well at least "Bullet In The Blue Sky" as DLC!!!

Modern U2 sucks balls. Bono was in the university by my house a while back, i swear i wanted to run up to the stage and scream: YOUR NAME IS FUCKING PAUL! PAUL HEWSON!

Looking through the toystores, hell even at a JC Penny, there are knockoff TV plugin controllers games everywhere now. I think I saw something that said up to 4 versions of the game were in the works for this year. This franchise is SOOOOOO far gone it's not even funny.

A U2/GN'R Guitar Hero would be really awesome, and I'd buy both. But isn't this the type of thing that should just be on the Marketplace? Or, at least should only be like $20? I don't think I'd pay $60 for just one band, even though I like a lot of U2 songs, I don't think I'd want to have a whole game just of them. Meh.

Maybe if Rock Band was better by trying to be better I could, you know, feel proud. But at this point it just feels like Activision, not Guitar Hero or Neversoft, but Activision isn't even trying. Because let's be honest Neversoft is Activisions bitch. They've no choice. And the actual core of Guitar Hero, simple as it is, is still there so until Neversoft does something completely stupid like adding three extra buttons and a first-person mode the core of Guitar Hero is still the same.

Why not just call it an expansion pack? There is NOTHING different about the games, except those hammer-ons and pull offs ;) Get bands that people know for the guitar player and the riffs and not the frontman and the catchy choruses. . .its not vocal hero.

QFT! The DLC for Guitar Hero III has been god-awful compared to what has been put out for Rock Band, and as long as Activision refuses to allow Harmonix to patch their own goddamn game, they can go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

All Activision did was obtain a license. It doesn't shock me at all that they lack even an ounce of creativity.

U2 sucks, i would never even consider purchasing anything U2. a guns and roses edition would be slightly better, but still shitty. and an areosmith version would suck too.

there are only a few bands that i think would make for an awesome guitar hero game. alice in chains, metallica, tool, led zep, megadeth.

just stick to the current format...when these so called special editions come out they tend to suck...Just look at Rocks The 80's - in principle a good idea but many of the songs were VERY poor covers and the song selection wasn't too great to begin with.
But having a game with a song or 2 from all of the above bands (including Slash's Snakepit - which is awesome) should in theory make for a great game
