Activision knows what it is doing, that much is clear. For anyone who doesn't know about DLC or Rock Band -- which is, in all probability, a large chunk of the population -- Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is going to be like some sort of rock n' roll godsend. For those of us that do know about DLC and Rock Band, it seems a little less special, but at least we'll all be saving money if we pick it up, right?

The new trailer below lists songs that are in the game while playing “I Love Rock and Roll.” This is more proof that Activision is smarter than the average bear. See, simply listing a bunch of rock songs is in actuality not a trailer, but when you put a song that even your stuck-up third grade math teacher would bob her head to, then it isn't as noticable. For instance, read this sentence: dog Alabama fishsticks rollerblade verdant. That is, in fact, not a sentence -- but if you play “I Love Rock and Roll” in the background while reading it, you care far less about that fact. Devishly clever, Activision.

Is there a picture behind all that text? I can't tell.

Right now, despite how much I dislike Activision and how much they enjoy the milking of this series, I may look into this. Maybe it's because "Bark at the Moon" is in this and I love that enough to get just about anything with that song in the soundtrack. I better hear news of "Jordan" being in there soon.

I loved GH until I was introduced to RB. The game is fun and does not stylisticly make my head hurt. Also the game I think wants the players to enjoy and thus, makes the learning curve from medium to hard more gradual. Guitar Hero is just rehashing old ideas and trying to milk the money. Lets do a comparison, keep buying the Guitar Hero artist discs, or buy Rockband 2 which allows you to play all the songs from Rockband. Besides, Rockband will have The Beetles, and GH only has Aerosmith and Metallica. I enjoy both bands, but not enough to play a whole game featuring their music.

This trailer has 4 songs I wanna play. That's more than Rockband's DLC has given me since I downloaded the Ramones songs when I bought the game way over a year ago.

It better be the Britney Spears version of I love Rock & Roll! ;)

So, instead of giving owners of GH: World Tour the option of downloading these songs as DLC, Activision is going to release them onto a disc and make it so you can't import them or use any of your GH DLC with it.

Gotta admit...they know how to make money.

And I'm with Otomiruninja...if you can only find 4 songs within the copious amounts of DLC Harmonix provides, something's wrong. Even if your favorite band isn't in there, there's something similar available. Unless you listen to classical and rap, though there are a few rap songs thrown in there. Not gangsta variety...but still.

I can buy this off eBay in six months for $20 and spend WAY less than I would buying the songs off of DLC.

Why are the character designs still ugly?

GH games use the same characters from old GH games. You can also create your own characters. So, they're basically about as ugly as you make them.

@ PL- I have to call BS on that. For all of Rock Band's successes and all of GH's faults, the faces to choose from when you create someone in Rock Band were freaking hideous. Even though RB has a lot more customization options for the characters *after* you create them, the people you can create don't even really look like people. The faces are awful.

I don't know I prefer the look of the characters in RB but I suppose it's just personal preference. Personally I felt that despite the vast array of options to customise in GH faces they still ended up looking pretty much the same.
