Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s officially revealed with partial song listing

     Music games
After much waiting and speculation, Activision has officially announced Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s. The PlayStation 2 exclusive (boo!) will feature retro rock venues and characters styles after the era, as well as 30 songs.

While the partial song list doesn't reveal anything shocking, it is enough to convince me to bust out my Karate Kid bandanna and prance around in my mirror pouting:

* I Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)
* I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)
* Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
* I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
* Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
* Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
* Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)

Note that both "I Wanna Rock" and "I Ran" appear to be master recordings of the classic tracks; this is a good thing, because I'd rather not hear someone trying to do a Dee Snyder impression when I was trying to, you know, rock.

Also note that Quiet Riot's "Metal Health," a track that was removed from Guitar Hero II (and can be unlocked in some demos of the game using hacks), makes a return.

While Activision hasn't revealed a release date, if retailers are to be believed, the time machine is set to take off on July18.

"PlayStation 2 exclusive (boo!)"

No, yay! I wouldn't buy this crap for my 360 or my PS3 if it came with pop rocks and coke! Thanks (for trying to milk all of the nostalgia out of me with crappy pop-metal songs and new wave garbage), but no thanks. I'll relive the 80's with my dvd's of Goonies and Back to the Future.

I hope they release some better tracks. Cause the list so far is pretty meh-worthy.

This is cool and all, but I'd still rather see a PS3-compatible controller. This game should come as a free pack-in with it, as an apology for their lack of foresight.

They should eventually port this, or at least anally rape us in DLC with these songs. They won't go unseen on the 360. Wouldn't make any sense considering what a cash cow this game is now to Activision.

I like New Wave, so Bow Wow Wow and Flock of Seagulls is cool to see up there, but I agree with the majority opinion, we're going to need some better bands up there. More Van Halen (is Eruption out of the question?), some Sammy Hagar, U2 would be nice...

OH! I wonder if they might actually be able to get some Metallica in there as well. The thought of being able to play One, Sanitarium, or Master of Puppets is certainly exciting. Who knows...

oh man, i would give up any track on my GH2 360 copy for Holy Diver...god damn you!!!

"Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me

Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean"

So far, so disappointing. Where's all the goddamn thrash? Dio and twisted sister(well, that one song at least) are okay, but far far far from adequate.

I still want some FOREIGNER UP IN THIS BIATCH! ALONG WITH SOME EUROPE, WTF?! Make it happen!

Watch Microsoft add the songs in the future via GH2 for an even heftier price. Hahaha.

PS2 exclusive? Boo indeed!

I guess they just feel like screwing with all the people who bought the 360 version and sold their PS2 guitar/game. Like hell I'm buying the guitar for a 3rd time. I suppose that will be at least one less sell of that game.

If it isn't downloadable on live, and the final countdown isnt included, then I don't care!

I want Candy? No thanks.. and that reminds me of Aqua Teen for some reason.

Anyways most of those would be pretty fun, but we need some Maiden in this list. Or they could always go back and revisit bands like Judas Priest.

I agree with "boo PS2 exclusive". I'm sure it will be on the 360 one day. Also, Rorschach, I so wanna see some Aha Take on Me!

Not to be a dick with my first ever dtoid comment, but it's Bang Your Head that is hidden in the demo.

I would also love to see The Final Countdown in there. And also Everything I Do by Bryan Adams, as sung by Gob Bluth.

I bought GH1&2 at the same time, so I don't know which has Cherry Pie by Warrant, but yes it's there.

This is like totally awesome, gag me with a spoon. People are saying this list is MEH!!??? You guys didn't grow up in the 80's then. Heat of the moment, I want to rock, round and round......fucking classics. I can't wait. Now these are some songs.

I like the list so far. I was dying to see I Ran in GH3 but it looks like I got it early. I still own my PS2 version as well as my 360 version, so Im all good no matter what.

The Final Countdown would be sweet1 As long as it has GOB dancing in the background.

So what's the final verdict: is this made by Harmonix or Neversoft? I remember Harmonix announcing it, but it might be in Neversoft's hands by now. If so, it'll probably be a good indication of what we can expect from Guitar Hero III this fall.

@EAY:

You're allowed to be a dick all you want, but in the future, you have to be correct! :D

The song is called "Metal Heath." The lyrics to that song do contain the words "bang your head," in that order, though.

"as made famous by"

Does this mean that those songs will only be covers, like on those shitty cds you see at Walmart in the bargain bin for like 99 cents, by labels like "Madacy Records"?

If so, then I'll pass.
