After much waiting and speculation, Activision has officially announced
Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s. The PlayStation 2 exclusive (boo!) will feature retro rock venues and characters styles after the era, as well as 30 songs.
While the partial song list doesn't reveal anything shocking, it is enough to convince me to bust out my Karate Kid bandanna and prance around in my mirror pouting:
* I Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)
* I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)
* Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
* I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
* Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
* Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
* Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)
Note that both "I Wanna Rock" and "I Ran" appear to be master recordings of the classic tracks; this is a good thing, because I'd rather not hear someone trying to do a Dee Snyder impression when I was trying to, you know, rock.
Also note that Quiet Riot's "Metal Health," a track that was removed from Guitar Hero II (and can be unlocked in some demos of the game using hacks), makes a return.
While Activision hasn't revealed a release date, if retailers are to be believed, the time machine is set to take off on July18.
