Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Lips get Xbox LIVE music stores photo

It looks like those Xbox LIVE individual music stores that have been teased since the last update are finally hitting today.

Microsoft has announced that stores for Rock Band, Lips, and Guitar Hero should be available for download today. The first store, Guitar Hero VIP Pass, is a standalone program that points to all available downloadable content for the Hero titles. In functionality, it looks and feels a heck of a lot like the Rock Band music store which already exists in-game.

Personally, I find these to be welcome additions. As someone who purchases a lot of Rock Band DLC (yes, I'm guilty of spending way more money than I should), not having to pop the disc in first to browse, preview, and download the content

It's awesome, but since Rock Band is usually in the disc tray anyway, it doesn't really affect me.

I was hoping for some awards like halo waypoint but they don't give you anything but some gay Xmas song

Seems all well and good but think of it this way: New songs for music games are like maps for FPS'(except not as varied as a map with a theme), doesn't that FPS get old and stale after a while? Say there was a RockBand: Rammstein(no, not the german band, I meant me) with 80 songs I personally chose, I would still be clicking the same Green/Red/Yellow/Blue/Orange I've been clicking since Guitar Hero 1. Imagine if Wolfenstein 3-D was still putting out new maps, its still just Wolfenstein 3-D. I hope that made sense, but as it is a /rant, I don't expect it to. >_<

TL;DR: This is actually pretty cool, but...

It makes perfect sense and I agree with you it is still doing the same thing over and over.

But I like it so I frankly don't give a shit. And when it's not fun anymore I'll stop.

@Rannstein

Somewhat valid, but I would argue that it (RB/GH) represent activities which blur the line between traditional games and karaoke.

I mean you won't be complaining about how you sang this song 20 years ago and they haven't added any new features when your still having a good time.

Seriously...I want Rock Revolution music. I want to rawk out to some more horrible covers on my 7 zone drum set. Got the drum and game combo for 30 bucks.

Worth it just to see the reaction on peoples faces as they try to figure out what it is.

And from time to time I play it.

I almost bought that for the lulz until I heard those covers.

I swear that's The Jonas Brothers performing My Generation.

@Xzyliac:

Jonas Brothers covering The Who is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard, right up there with playing Russian roulette with a semi-automatic pistol.

I dunno, considering I still play UTclassic every now and then and I still find a lot of people online playing it, and that people still make maps for old games like doom and quake, I'm not sure the FPS analogy is good :P.

I agree with both your points, Xzyliac and Scapegoat, and forgive me if it sounded like I was trying to pee-pee in your cheerios, I was just confused about the music genre as I cannot see someone persistently playing these type of games on a daily basis the way, say I, play a few rounds of L4D2 or MW2 every night after work. The karaoke reference made me see and understand better. They're meant to be dusted off every once in a while when you wanna let loose and yes, have 'fun'. Thanks for /bonking me on the head and helping me understand! =D

Damn you Knives, you ruined my whole analogy! You, and that whole 'my roomate and I were bored of MW2/L4D2 the other night so we went back to FarCry2 online and downloaded some new custom maps modeled after MW2 that actually breathed some new, fun, life into and old, forgotten game'. But mostly you. Damn you. This is why Dtoid needs a /Delete option. :P

I don't play my RB/GH games on the 360, but do they do something similar to the PS3 where you can tell which tracks you've purchased from the store? On the PS3 they show the little red icon to indicate you already own that song.

If this gets rid of all the music clutter on the game add-on section of the marketplace, Im all for it. BTW, when are we getting some radiohead for RockBand!!?

@Xzyliac:

Yeah, but that's The Beatles. At least they had the same sort of image as what Disney is trying to make for The Jonas Brothers. The Who represented rebellion and wildness. The Jonas Brothers represent middle class white Stepford-people-ness.

Yes. It says "Purchased" beside the tracks.

@Arkhon
I dunno. The Beatles we kind of...druggy...publicly. But I see where you're going.

Seeing as I own all GH DLC that has been made available for GH5 and 95% of WT DLC, this is a very awesome addition. At least now I won't have to load up GH5 to see what DLC I have left to buy =D

I downloaded it but I'm not really liking it. When I go to the LEGO section, anything I bought in a pack doesn't show up as purchased, only singles.
Also, for some reason, the No Doubt singles album isn't showing up as an album so it says I don't own any of those songs.
Ah well, considering I always buy the songs I want every Tuesday through the Xbox.com marketplace, I guess I don't really need a store on the Xbox to download them. Then again, it might make it easier to see which 5 dozen songs I DON'T already own in case I want to go back and buy them...
