Guitar Hero 3 sets Nintendo's online service aflame photo

I know what you're thinking -- the Wii has online connectivity? I frequently forget myself, as I don't spend a lot of time waving the Wiimote anyway. Good news for Ninty however: Guitar Hero 3 has people burning up the online connections, scoring 622,580 connections total for the week ending November 4th. This number is only second to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, which generated a brain-blowing 1,455,526 connections.

You know what I would like, Nintendo? What I would really, really like? For you to shut the hell up about your console's sales power and focus more energy on the online system. Thanks to Xbox Live, I play my Xbox every day, socialize with my friends, and enjoy online gaming with them as well. Maybe a bit more effort in this department would make more bored gamers wipe the layer of dust off their Wiis and enjoy them similarly. Just a thought.

Planet Puzzle League isn't on that list? What a shame. It's because I scared everyone online away with my skills.

My Wii sits idly underneath my TV in its cabinet of boredom glowing a sad sad blue. Too bad it won't get touched while CoD4 is spinning its little heart out in my 360.

Stupid Wii. Stupid impulse purchase made solely based on the fact Best Buy had one in stock and not because there were games on it I wanted to play. Stupid me.

My Wii is for single player gaming as well as when friends come over.

My 360 and PC are mainly for single player and online play. I don't really see the complaints here. Nintendo is shooting for something different, if you don't like what they're shooting for then don't follow the product, they aren't going to change course for you.

Besides, Smash Bros. Brawl is online and that is all that really matters.

I definitely agree here. Nintendo should make a multi-player focused FPS and use it to get some more of the hardcore faithful online. After all, didn't Miyamoto say http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/index.phtml?t=Shigamotohe could make a Halo?

Click that link and then agree with me. Make a Wiimote Controlled FPS, by Nintendo. Surely they could get the game mechanics right, just let somebody else handle the art design and shit. This way, we end up with an awesome mature shooting game, filled with blood. Please?

I hate my wii. I've been trying to sell it for months. I hate it so much, that even though I came home to the red ring last night and can't play on live for a month, I refuse to turn that POS on. I'm glad I still have a huge catalogue of ps2 titles I've not played. Long live ps2s and 360s say I!

EAY: You must be pretty stupid if you've been trying to sell your Wii for months, there are none on the shelves where I live and you could make a profit.

This might be the thing that finally convinces them to fucking drop friend codes. I've been over to friend's houses and the rarely play their Wiis online because of the hassle.

Nintendo is stubborn, I don't see them dropping friend codes. Plus parents like them a lot. I know some people that work for Nintendo customer service and most parents won't let their kids go online to play but when they explain the friend codes the parents usually then let them do it.

And no, I don't like friend codes either but if you want a premier online experience you only have two options, the PC (best overall) and the 360 (best console).

As in the 360 is the best console for online play, is what I meant.

1 connection= 1 match played, right?

Anyway, I agree with Colette, the fact that I might find some friends online to play with is enough reason for me to turn on the 360 instead of the Wii when i get home.

I don't think Wii will ever have online as good as XBL. It'd be nice, but I don't think it'll happen.

They haven't even announced any plans to ever have any type of voice chat that I know of, and if they ever do have it, you'll probably only be able to talk to people that you exchange friend codes with.

Wow... I didn't know there were so many Wii haters on here. The Wii collecting dust comments are so friggin' old hat. I've had no problem finding games to play. I don't play 3 hours every day as I am a busy man, so maybe that's the problem. Lately, Guitar Hero 3, Battalion Wars, and Zack & Wiki have taken up a lot of my gaming time. I also have the virtual console and full backward compatibility to keep me happy. It's not that I don't like my 360, I just think playing shooters on a console is kinda weak.

Jump Ultimate Stars is the shit, I still play that game like crazy. It s like SSB w/o as much balance, and with fantasy character match-ups. Nintendo needs to get their online shit together, eventually people are going to stop being distracted by the motion controller and realize that the online play fails. And Miyamoto thinks he could have made Halo? Yeah, and Bungie could have made The Legend of Zelda: OoT, they just chose not to.

I am sick of all of this Nintendo hate....it is getting worse than the PS3 hate. 1 1/2 years ago everyone was gushing over Nintendo's new system, I guess now it is cool to hate on Nintendo.

I don't hate Wii per-say but I think friend codes are way too overboard. I thought when the system was coming out they had opted for a single friend code the system one and that would have been ok but this per game crap is for the birds.

Don't get me wrong you dont have to have friend codes to play online but it makes a social experience so impersonal and really that is against what it stands for. I do understand they dont want people on Mario Kart cursing like sailors cause trust me you get hit with a blue shell a foot from the finish only to lose and there will be a torrent of explicitives.

I do think some games should have open voice chat though cause really a M rated game and Many T rating game what could be said that goes beyond the rating. Well maybe I shouldn't put people up to the challange I retract that last statement.

Your comment just reeks of "these guys are all nerds with to much time on their hands thus they hate the Wii"

@Mogambi

Yes, because its simply impossible that people just don't like the Wii, they must be jumping on the bandwagon.

The Wii is the biggest enigma in gaming, it has nothing going for it and all its got in the future are sequels, yet the machine sells like nothing else, I for one think it won't last.

Its plagued by the same issues the cube had, huge drought between good games, amazing 3rd party gems that get ignored and really shitty games that sell like crazy.

Even though I don't like it, online is the future, and friends are a joke, I actually burst out in laughter when someone who bought the Wii edition asked who wanted to play against him and typed out his 12 digit friend code, its so stupid, and as D-Toid already showed, they can stop people from cursing but not from guys having names like Skullfckr and the like.

Nintendo is stubborn and arrogant and they are riding high right now, they won't be changing friend codes anytime soon, and hope of a really awesome FPS is just something that will never happen.

Thanks for the snap judgment, an internet classic. I just don't freakin' get it with people who hate the Wii. Nothing going for it? Are you people serious? I just don't understand how Zelda, Super Paper Mario, Warioware, Wii Sports, Metroid Prime 3 and various others aren't enough. I agree that Nintendo needs to further develop their online setup, but I seriously love playing with people in the same room. And, I know I might be alone in this, but I rarely have good fortune with people talking online.

Sorry if I came off as "these guys are all nerds with too much time on their hands thus they hate the Wii". I love games and play a lot. I just fail to see how you could run out of games to play on the 360 and not the Wii. A lot of people do come off as being part of the Wii hate bandwagon. Nintendo always has to deal with this opposition. It's ridiculous.

I'm so glad that Smash Brawl is online. That's all I need. I am definitely going to pick up GH3 one of these days, hopefully soon. After listening to the Guitar Hero 3 song list I just can't resist.

What I would give for voice chat... at least Wii has real online capabilities unlike GCN.

No suprise there. This is the kind of game Wii needs to get more gamers online. I just hope Nintendo help push it more.

As more Wii games go online in 08' it should get better.
