Guitar-controlled platformer Fret Nice hits PSN this week photo

According to a tweet by Fret Nice developer Pieces Interactive, the guitar-controlled platformer Fret Nice hits PlayStation Network in North America this week. Europe has received a vague "coming soon," so hold tight.

Fret Nice uses guitar controllers to control an on-screen characters, taking control over something called a "Vibrant Chordblaster." I've spent a bit of time with the game and found the use of the controller unique, but issues with hardware (i.e. a Guitar Hero's "star power" tilt -- which makes your player jump -- not working) made some of the experience frustrating. But when it worked, it was neat enough that I'm definitely interested in spending some more time with the game. (Note: The game can also be played with a standard controller... but why?)

No word on the Xbox LIVE Arcade release or price, but I've put word in to the game's publisher, Tecmo, for these pressing questions. I'll update as the info comes in.

Fret Nice launches on PSN... [@PiecesInt via Joystiq]

[Update: Tecmo has let us know that Fret Nice will be $14.99 on PSN; no word yet on an Xbox LIVE release, but it's coming.]

For some reason I thought this was already on XBLA. Darn.

You have to tilt the guitar to jump!? As if my back didn't hurt enough as it is. How many times do you jump in a typical platformer, 5, 600 times? Man, that just sounds awful. Thank god you can play with a regular controller.

Why does it say xbox live arcade on the title if it really has nothing to do with xbox?

Oh man, it's been a really long wait for this. But still, I missed the old style that was presented originally with this game like... nearly three years ago. This style is okay though, but the original had a more pixel old school game feeling to it... That's one of the reasons I got so excited for it in the first place.

Ditto for the 'XBLA' tag on this story.

Seeing as how I don't have any guitar controllers for PS3, I'll stick with the dualshock.

@SayWord, @Rammstein:

Because, uh, the game is also scheduled to come out for the Xbox 360's Xbox LIVE Arcade.

For those interested (and with a wired guitar controller), you can get a free demo for the now-cancelled PC version here. I honestly greatly liked the graphics for this version, can't imagine why they would change it up.

My interest has dwindled on this a lot since the demo, but here's hoping it's worth the money.

I believe this game is on the XBL Community games section. Something very similar is.
