It's been a while since we saw much at all of Guilty Gear 2 Overture, but here it is with a fresh trailer showing off the new direction for Arc System Works' former one-on-one fighter. The main theme I'm getting here is a kind of cross between Dynasty Warriors and Sonic the Hedgehog.
I can see this is already unpopular with a fair few fans, but I am certainly interested. One must admit though -- ending your trailer with some of the most obvious graphical clipping in the world probably isn't a good idea.
I love 2D fighters, there is nothing better than getting a few friends together and beating the crap out of each other, I am going to miss old school Guilty Gear a LOT, but BlazBlue (or Blue Blaze, whatever.) will hopefully make up for a new Guilty Gear fighter.
You would be very hard pressed to find a larger "Guilty Gear" fan than I. I've been a rabid follwer since the PS1 days. But if I've learned anything from the horrendous DS game, and the clunky nightmare that was "Isuka", it's that these guys run into trouble when the deviate from the formula that they're good at.
Subsequently I'm hedging my bets with this one. Will I buy it? Probably. However, I'm not paying the full $60 for it, lest it gather dust with its rotten brethren.
Besides, there are far to many stellar titles this Fall to garner that price-point. And I'm much more comfortable walking away with both Milestone's "Ultimate Shooting Collection" for Wii, and the new "Dragon Warrior" for DS this month for what amounts to the same money.
It's not that I don't care for this particular game (well actually I don't, but that's not the point). I don't have a problem with devs trying to branch out and try other things, and I guess it's not that big a deal since they are doing a 2D fighter with BlazBlue.
I'm just wondering why couldn't they slap on the "BlazBlue" moniker to this game instead, and put the Guilty Gear name back with the 2D fighter they're working on? Bah!
To everyone talking about the lack of a 2D Guilty Gear: I read an article on Siliconera that confirms that both the 3D and 2D series are going to continue.
Quote: "GG series as a 2D fighting game haven’t ended. We’re planning to develop both 2D and 3D series, but it’s still too early for us to disclose any information."
