Guild Wars: Go North for the Holidays photo

If you've wanted to try out the new Guild Wars: Eye of the North expansion but couldn't, you may appreciate this gift.

Players can now take advantage of a free 5-hour trial of GW:EN. In the latest update, the level requirement has been lowered, so now level 10 players can enjoy this expansion. Also, a buff is available for those level 10-19, letting them go toe-to-toe with the new content.

Instructions can be found on the Guild Wars Web page. Users must have a full version of Guild Wars, Factions, or Nightfall activated.

Also, a blow-out celebration event is currently taking place. Until December 16th, players in Eye of the North will receive:

  • Triple experience from all primary storyline quests in Eye of the North.
  • Double the chance to receive rare items from chests, and triple the drop rate of Lockpicks in Eye of the North.
  • Double gold and experience rewards for vanquishing Eye of the North explorable areas while playing in Hard Mode.
In addition, Sparklers, Hunter's Ale, and Honeycombs can be dropped from all creatures.

I hope they bundle the 3 GW games and this expansion in a $50 set sometime soon. Maybe even $60. The first game was the only MMORPG I truly had fun with, and I've played many. It just never felt like a grind, and it looked stunning. It also made it easy and rewarding to party up. I don't care what anyone says; all other MMORPGs are solo grind fests until you reach the upper tier of players, when you basically prove your worth. But Guild Wars is one big happy family right from the start.

I liked this game a lot when it came out (the community has gone downhill since) but I just can't get into it anymore. I had my fun with it, now I'm waiting to see how good the sequel is. They did a great job with this one, it truly felt different from all of the other games out there, now if only they could fix a lot of the issues with the first it could really be big.

Guild Wars is the only MMO I've been able to consistently stick with, probably because it doesn't eat away all of my time just to make progress.

I was always interested in Guild Wars. Most MMOs really rely on either grinding, partying, money, or all 3. Which i'm fine with, but you start off playing and you don't have anything for a good while.

plus...it's free. I can take my chances with those odds.

That is clearly not an appropriate costume for northern travel.

I bought the original and played it for 2 or 3 weeks with my roommate but then we both lost interest (these games are so damned repetitive it pains me to think of it). I haven't heard too much has changed. Ho-hum.
