Guild Wars 2 not happening until 2010 or 2011 photo

I dislike monthly subscriptions. I would relinquish my soul to Mythic’s Warhammer Online or Blizzard’s World of Warcraft if I didn’t have to forsake my wallet in exchange. NCsoft’s aging title Guild Wars is different. It’s a big budget title that doesn’t kill its players with periodic money grabbing. The sequel to the game -- aptly titled Guild Wars 2 -- will be built much the same. Unfortunately, it appears that fans hungry for the fresh take will have to wait at least another year before they can get their MMO on.

A tipster sent us a picture of a profit number presentation from NCsoft, showing Guild Wars 2 in an ambiguous 2010-2011 window. It’s a hearty delay, and I can only poke at the reason with the usual setback, cutback, bareback, or market deluge speculation. I'll spare you my theories and toss out a few facts:

As Kotaku pointed out, NCsoft experienced a 40 percent profit drop last year. The company plans to make up its losses with another MMO called Aion: The Tower of Eternity -- a title set to hit in 2009, unlike Guild Wars 2.

[Thanks, Tadej!]

Doesnt come as much of a surprise. I haven't heard much about this game since the PC Gamer front cover article. However I really want this to be good so they can take there time.

I played the alpha and beta previews and had a blast. Myself and 3 other friends cruised through all the PvE content and I had quite a bit of fun doing PvP.

But the retail game... I loved the newbie area, the pre-sundered world, and every time I create a new character I love going through and doing all the quests.

But once I hit the real game, I lose all interest and uninstall it. I really really want to like Guild Wars, but I can't stomach the game enough to enjoy myself. I even created a dedicated healer in the hopes of getting into groups easier, but it seems that everyone has rolled Monk as their secondary class so they can self heal.

@seigfreid

Yea, they have pretty much been silent since the PC Gamer article. I have never heard of a developer announcing a game, only to go silent for close to 2+ years. No general updates, screenshots, or videos. Not even a few pieces of concept art. I really hope GW2 ends up being worth the wait.

@ Exquisitor
You played like 1-2% of the game. Seriously. I had similar thoughts at first, but the more I got into it the more I enjoyed it. Nightfall has the most balanced campaign overall I feel in respect to easing you into it.

Also,
Once again I'll throw it out there that if anyone else plays still (no matter how little) I would be willing to bankroll a DToid guild.

Could be used primarily as a placeholder for GW2.

Will guilds transfer over? I assumed you need to remake guilds. I would join, but the lack of new GW content means I only log in for holiday or special events.

ARG! NOOOOW! I really hope it is a success though, I've logged a lot of my life into the first one and hope to do the same whenever they manage to tell us anything about the 2nd.

I guess they're taking time to make it good, unlike Guild Wars 1.

(which was terrible)

I've been meaning to play catch-up with my Guild Wars Account... maybe it's high time I do that.

I've been playing GW aplenty lately, and I'm nabbing the 2 campaigns I'm missing thanks to a deal amazon is currently running.

I loved the original Guild Wars. Great game for something that doesn't need a fucking subscription. The area restictions pissed me off a bit though.

I can wait until it's out though, it's going to be free to play again so I can't complain if it'll take extra time in development. Just give no area restrictions and jump and I'll be happy.
