While I agree, I can also appreciate the sense of personal challenge to see how quickly one can do something in a game. This player is skilled enough, obviously, that I'm sure he's been paying close attention to the game for a while and played in the betas. I doubt he's much of a dummy and will surely roll more characters to take his time with.
Additionally, Guild Wars 2 is designed in such a way with level downscaling that you can take a level 80 character to starter zones and still enjoy the game and participate in events without steamrolling everything and ruining the experience for yourself or others. So in the end, he Surfeuze really hasn't missed out on anything.
@SephirothX
Somehow I doubt that.
..Also, gaining twenty levels through crafting? Really?
This news kind of hurts a potential purchase from me
So anyway, who else did something.. you know.. worth while?
Depends on the guild. My WOW guild doesn't require you to do anything. They raid frequently, but I don't have to sign up unless I'm in the mood. I get the social aspect, and occasionally do things as a group, but I'm not committed to a schedule or gear requirement. There are plenty of guilds like this.
Not.
As a rule of thumb, take a thing you dislike from "typical MMOs" and throw it out the window when considering GW2.
@Michael Ramos
I don't see how anybody can think that's a bad thing. You gain experience from doing pretty much anything in GW2, which is awesome. And the level curve is drawn in such a way that the time it takes to go from level 10 to 11 is the same it takes to go from 79 to 80, which is double awesome.
Also, that last point I just made might be something else people are not realizing with regard to this news.
Gamers. We just like to complain.
GW2 is literally the next evolution of MMO. They have, in a very real way, made a game that appeals to and rewards every archetype of player. Achievers, Explorers, Socializers, and Killers all can gain levels doing what they like best.
You can literally level from 1-80 without killing a single monster if you're up for it. I honestly wonder how many levels you could get just from exploring the whole world. There hasn't been an MMO like this in a looong time.
...Now what, indeed.
