[Update: I failed to catch the few seconds of Kaiho Shojo gameplay in this video. My mistake! Sorry internet!]
While it's a shame that this interview-focused trailer hasn't been translated into English yet, it's still great to get an up-close look at both the games of Guild 01 and the developers who are making them. This is the first time that I know of an "all star game jam" to come to the major consoles, and the concept alone has me excited. Seeing Suda51 (No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw) Yoshiyuki Hirai (comedy group America Zarigani), Yasumi Matsuno (Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy XII) and Yoot Saito (Seaman) all gushing about their projects gives me goosebumps, even if those goosebumps are in un-subtitled Japanese. It's also exciting that Guild 01 is planned to be the first in a series. I'm hoping they get Swery 65 (Deadly Premonition), Takeyasu Sawaki (Okami,El Shaddai), Keiji Inafune (Mega Man, Dead Rising) and Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya (Cave Story, Ika-Chan) for the next go-round.
So which of these games do you think looks the best so far? For me, it's a tie between Suda's Kaiho Shojo and Matsuno's Crimson Shroud. Then again, those are the two games that are yet to show off any gameplay, so its sort of a moot point. I'm just psyched to see those Dungeons and Dragons dice rolling, and that bird foot getting shanked.

Meet the rest of the team
@ Fr33Kye- I was thinking of Mikami and Kojima, but they take FOREVER to make games. I certainly wouldn't mind if they were in Guild 02 though! Same goes for the creator of Yakuza (I also don't know his name).
Also Kenta Cho, Yuji Naka, Mizaguchi, Sakurai, Igarashi, Itagaki, Ono, Kamiya, Harada, and (of course) Miyamoto!
@Holmes
They have a nickname for him....Golden something....
Suda said he wants to do a game with kojima but kojima is too busy. I'm sure mikami and kamiya will find some way to work together.....And it would be cool to have ono and harada add fighting games into the guild. So one package could span a bunch more genres. I have no idea if miyamoto would be up for something like that, I'm sure he's just as busy as hideo kojima. I think nintendo's first party would be all for it if it stayed on the 3ds of course.
Weird powerleageofjustextraordinarygentlemen vibe.....
Level 5 is publishing it right? If so it will probably get localized.
Anyone else notice that the pages in the Crimson Shroud section were in mostly perfect English? I mean, even with a big fat capital "D" sitting in for the similar sounding "T" when spelling "The", it was perfectly legible and flowed normally.
I guess Matsuno's team has commanded a better understanding of the language than other studios or they're already trying to get Guild 01, if not Crimson Shroud itself, released overseas.
@ nasic870- Yep. And Sawaki is an excellent director as well. I preferred El Shaddai to Bayonetta by a large margin. That said, I prefer Viewtiful Joe to both of them by an even larger margin, so if Kamiya came back with something like that, I'd be all about it.
Vanquish is the best action game this generation. I prefer viewitful joe over ALMOST everything. I haven't even gotten bayonetta or el shaddai yet....very long list of games i still need to purchase.
@ Fr33Kye- Vanquish is amazing, if you take the time to force yourself to master it. My problem with the game is, it didn't teach me how to play it like how Viewtiful Joe, God Hand Okami did. I could get by with the same lousy techniques through almost the entire game.
The auspice is on the developer to give me the homework and the tests necessary to teach me how to play their games like a pro. I feel that's something that, thus far, Platinum hasn't done as well as Clover did. The combat systems and dynamics are just as good. It's the lessons that are missing.
Video has gameplay for Kaiho Shojo, brief clips in between suda's talking before the animation piece. Reminds me of those helicopter games where you rain down hell on targets below. So Crimson Shroud is the only one without gameplay
@Holmes
Well put actually. Some found it boring because it didn't exactly "click". Viewtiful joe did it well. From the beginning, the style and the tutorial didn't just tell you what the buttons did, but what it was all about. Looking Viewtiful. Vanquish on the other hand just throws you the mechanics. Yes you know what the buttons do but you may not know how the game is designed to be played. Platinum failed to mention it's not much of a cover shooter. I say Vanquish did cover shooting the best because cover is simply something to use to catch your breath.
It's actually one of the few games i bothered to play on hard, and i feel that's the way the game was meant to be played. It's exhilarating on it's highest difficulty without devolving into a game solely about taking cover. I probably died over 30 times for one robot on hard, i still haven't beaten the last level. It's a game you actually get better at and make your own fun playing. It's also one of the few games where i enjoyed hunting for trophies, or simply creating little goals for myself(defeating to romanovs solely through roundhouse kicks!).
Let the record show that on the last level on hard you fight two robots. Both of which move faster than you aim, have melee attacks, attacks that cause you to overheat, more health to each of them, and seeking attacks.
There are games about cover, and then there are games where you can take cover.
@ Fr33Kye- The world needs more people like you to explain how great Vanquish can be. Otherwise, they'll never know.
I hope there is a sequel, and I hope it does more to teach players how to get to that expert level of play where the game truly becomes one of the best in the genre.
Wooh!! Yea i analyze games to death. Vanquish is probably my number one third person shooter, followed closely by lost planet 2 and uncharted 2. I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about games, i'll probably make a blog analyzing a game to death.
What i find most interesting about vanquish, other than smoking being both cool and a tactical move, is what it might have been. It was set to be a very different game. No sam gideon, simply three pilots controlling a robot,each with there own style of gameplay, with a robot dog that served as an inventory and movable cover.
Instead it's really a third person shooter through japanese eyes. The suits design resembles a samurai, and so does his pose when standing still. He doesn't even have a walking animation. There's a weird amount of depth to it all.
I just remembered godhand is on psn. Into my cart it goes.

@ SayWord;
It makes me shudder to think what happens to the partners you make love to. O_O
They cease to exist.
(Also, they are all separate games, correct?)
So it’s like brail?
Ill quit smoking weed for a day if that happens.

Here's hoping this makes it out of Japan.
Just my opinion, dawg!
