I’ve been playing Guerrilla Games’s Killzone 2 for over ten hours, and I still can’t rip off a Helghast head without having to resort to strafing. I can’t pinpoint my control-related issue, but I know that others are feeling my pain. Yesterday, we ran a story related to this subject. Guerilla’s producer, Seb Downie, seemed adamant when he said that no changes would happen with the current control method: “[Guerrilla Games] have come to the conclusion that there are no changes required to the [control] system.”
Today, he sang a different tune -- in bullet point format, no less -- in a post on the official PlayStation forums. He wrote (the stress is his) that Guerrilla is still analyzing the control method. If they find a problem, they’ll fix it:
Okay, before I start crying.
1. We have not decided if we are going to do anything to the controls. We are investigating.
2. If we change them, we have not said how. No reason to get upset. We are not going to turn them on their head. It would not be sweeping changes.
3. Any potential changes made will be carefully analyzed and tested to ensure they do not negatively affect players who do not experience any issues.
Are many of you experiencing issues? I’ve been told on numerous occassions that it takes time to get used to. Time happened, and I'm still a sad panda.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
REALLY FUCKING HARD.
Heavy's are still more annoying in TF2 though. Fucking KGB motherfuckers...
Also I had fun.
Have a COD4 or Halo 3 style preset controls AND/OR Let players remap the buttons.
PC players have been remapping for YEARS!
The reviews are out, however, and they are all really good. Everyone is saying that it's weird at first but you get used to it. Even the people who were cursing it their first day.
I guess I'm just worried that people will pass on a great experience because the media wants to have something to talk about. I'm sure eventually people will get the truth, but think of all that lost time they could have been leveling up their character. Sad sad.

YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
This very well might be an issue and this IS the issue they are checking into, nothing else.
They better not change it.
It is, and it's really starting to piss me off. I can't get used to it, because it's not right.
That, and I want crouch to be X-Button. If they allow me to map that, I'll shut up about the aiming, as at least my middle finger won't have to try listen to my brain.
Id like the delay in controls to be lessened if not removed cuz that was honestly the only really obvious dumb decision they made. Custom button mapping should be doable, you dont hear anyone complain about Resistance 2's controls do you? And I wish the sensitivity scale was a little more precise.
This video is a really good analysis of it, frame by frame:

And this one shows it well too:

But I'd have to agree with Niero. They did that on the first one so why not on this one?
WTF?
i that the only control issue is that it turns slow?
in this day an age why cant we have every control scheme be customizable?
Meng.
@Chronic - just because you need a mouse doesn't mean everyone does. You suck.
This is a brilliant depiction of the frustrations I had while playing the demo. I'm glad he literally broke it down in such detail. Thanks for posting this.
Also, "boo hoo" i guess for not liking the controls. But I think they messed up.
i'm playing Killzone 2 right now and the controls are fine, yes they take a few minute to get used to but if you never played the game and listened to some of the complainers you'd think that aiming at someone was nearly impossible..
every game plays different so get used to it,shut up and learn how to play.
Just because people playing the game have legit concerns about controls doesnt make them newbs, especially if it is more than a small ranting few. Just because you claim to "mow down 47 people a match" doesnt make your real life peen any bigger, it just shows you have to argue every little stupid concern. Oh no they are going to address a control issue in the game, its going to break the game for me oh NOES!1....
The dev team claimed to be looking into it, nothing more. I guess we're stuck with whatever controls they gave us for now. If you like them, fine... keep your "superiority" to yourselves. I'll stick with my PC for now.
The only thing I take issue with is the minor delay in aiming. If every shooter had that, I wouldn't care. The fact that I feel like I should have already moved when I pressed the stick is uncomfortable. I've uppsed the turn speed to compensate, but I'd rather have an aiming system that moves when I move, not a second later.
I love the game, but still- it's enough to get annoying.
It's the fact that I can have my analog pressed all the way to the right/left and hold it there for a half second before anything registers on screen.
Plus, to top that off after you let go of the stick your guy continues to keep turning for that 1/3 of second so you totally blow past what you were aiming for.
If EVERY FPS had these controls it would be fine, but seeing as how Killzone2 is the ONLY one that had this, it's pretty hard to adapt. EXAMPLE: Try this new car out, after you turn the wheel it steers 1/2 second later and when you stop steering it continues to steer!
Yo dawg I herd you like 1/2 delay's so we put a 1/2 delay before the delay and a 1/2 delay after the delay so you can 1/2 delay before you 1/2 second delay!
You most likely blow past what you aim for because you move the stick all the way in the first place, and you do so because it accelerates slowly if you only press it halfway. Then the stick will have to go back to neutral from all the way on one side, and that's when you keep turning.
Oh, and I keep seeing those videos around, but 4 frame lag is normal, all 30 frmae per second game has them. Gamasutra measured them and Halo3 and GTAIV have even more.
Maybe not a 1/2 second but there is a delay as I can reach the far right/left before ANYTHING happens on screen. There is no acceleration involved in my issue as nothing is moving at the time.
This happens in no other FPS that I have played, and I have a shit ton of games as my character will actually begin to move BEFORE I have reached the far right/left with my analog stick.
I'm willing to acknowledge that it takes time to get used to... But that's what I want in every game. I don't want every game (or even every FPS) to play the same. Just because it involves shooting from the first person, does not mean it has to have identical controls to the last big FPS.
I'm glad GG are looking to please everyone, and if there's a real issue, then fix it - I might get even more enjoyment out of it. But I'm worried they may be trying to please the public so much after K1 didn't sell that well.
I spent some time slamming my right stick in KZ2 and R2... I am pretty sure that if you look really closely you'll see the crosshair moving _slowly_ before the stick slams. In R2 it just seemes the movement starts earlier because even half stick on right or left gives you great speed, where in kz same position gives you small speed.
I wish I had a dv camera to go frame by frame
