GTA IV, Street Fighter IV, more are now 360 Platinum Hits photo

Microsoft has announced today that a bunch of titles have been dubbed "Platinum Hits" based on their top-ratings by critics and sales. The games Microsoft have deemed are both good and have sold well are:

Grand Theft Auto IV, Street Fighter IV, Left 4 Dead, Saints Row 2, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Microsoft says these suckers will be available in stores with the new Xbox Platinum Hits packaging, "starting as low as $19.99." Select retailers are also participating in a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" promotion for the titles through October 31.

My suggestion of which three games you should get, provided you don't own any of them? Grand Theft Auto IVStreet Fighter IV, and Left 4 Dead. And even though it breaks up the whole "four" thing you'll have going on, you might as well pick up Saints Row 2 while you're at it. That's pretty good, too.

I really, truly hated Saints Row 2.

Time to buy Saints Row 2!

@Haizeus
Did you hate it because it wasn't GTA IV?

@All
Don't be duped into buying Force Unleashed just yet (if you even want it). The "Ultimate Sith Edition" for the PC has the paid level packs included, along with a special "Sith Edition Only" level.

$20 for Left 4 Dead sounds great on paper, but considering everybody will have moved on to the sequel by then, it's a virtual money pit.

Though they're all great games, that's probably a bad suggestions because they will all very quickly be outdated, arguably excepting GTA4. L4D2 is out in a month and a week, Ballad of Gay Tony will have the "complete GTA4 experience" thing coming out, and you're living under a rock if you haven't seen the SSF4 debacle going on.

Then again, if you were waiting for the price on these games to be low, now is your chance to strike.

Yeah, unfortunately while L4D and SFIV are great games, they'll be practically obsolete soon.
But Saint's Row 2? It will love you long time.

If the cars in GTAIV handled as well as the cars in SR2 it would be nigh on perfect. Similarly, if the city detail in SR2 was as good as the detail in GTAIV that would also be nigh on perfect. Both are really great, different games, that could do well to bite a few things from each other. Both are well worth the dicounted prices.

Yup. All those titles are getting repackaged with goodies. Unless you just want to get the main GTA IV just to give it a go 'round none of those are worth it.

I've been waiting for a price drop on Saints Row 2, Huzzah! I'll probably pick that and (I know) Burnout Paradise.

Everything with "4" in the title is now in the range of $20-$30.
That is all.

SFIV is very tempting to me. It was priced at £19.99 in a few shops shortly after release and I never bought it... since then it's been way higher, and even 2nd-hand it's been over £20.
As for it being obsolete, that's only really applicable to online play. Myself, I doubt I'd ever play that online *shrug*.

anybody know if the platinum hits is including the DLC like Mass Effect or if its just a pretty slip cover? I'd hate to shill out cash for SF4 and then moon money to get Blanka in his explorer outfit.

SFIV>Everything else on that list.

@ MesonW
If you don't play SFIV online, you're missing out. Lots of comp out there.
SSFIV will be even bigger, mark my words. Get it while it's cheap and practice up now, you'll need the prerequisite course before you tackle the big times.

I would actually take Saints Row 2 or Star Wars: Force Unleashed over GTA 4. sure, Star Wars had it's faults, but at least it tried doing something you don't see being released every week. (I know I'm simplifying things.)

I was at Best Buy yesterday and the GH version of L4D was the GOTY edition for $30. I'll pick that up. I got the Collectors edition of Saints Row II when it was on clearance everywhere for $20.

Saints Row 2 is the only one I haven't gotten yet, so I'll have to check that out. I was waiting on a price drop.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I hate buying "____ Hits" titles.

Yes, I am anal enough as to where I hate seeing different styles of case (i.e. The Platinum Hits cases) on my shelf.

I need pretty much all of these games though. Agghh.

So you're not recommending the 4 unleashed?

That's fine.. I gotta find out where the buy 2 get 1 free is happening! =D

That's a bitch. I own three of those games so the Buy 2 Get 1 Free taunts me with its inability to help at all. Why can't it be buy one, get one half off?
