It's not GT's fault they can't have damage models.
I know, but it's still legal bullshit -- one part on them for agreeing to make the game like that. Enough people are preferring Burnout over this so it's only a matter of time before these suits get it. They need to evolve or continue to lose market share
I hate the game. But I can understand how some people just love playing those real, nice cars. Those manufacturers are idiots about making sure their cars don't look damaged.
I squish your head.
*squish*
I've got to say, the main reason I won't buy a GT game is because of the no damage. Not that I'm a huge racing game fan anyway, but if the game looked that good, had realistic physics, and had damage I might be tempted to at least give it a look. But, like Niero said that's why Burnout is the better choice as far as I'm concerned.
@Robert Summa
But as I said in the other GTHD thread:
Why can Midnight Club 3 and Need for Speed: Carbon have real cars with damage models and Gran Turismo can't? Every time I hear that excuse, I look at these other games and wonder...why?
It has to do with the specific licensing of those cars by those makers. It's about a realistic game using realistic cars. Trust me, I've heard this a million times from devs who work on these games.
Some manufacturers are OK with it in certain circumstances.
Now you can view my ugly mug. I rock.

Gran Tourismo just isnt for me
I hear it's big in Britain.
I keep two wired ones just in case, that and my bigger brother comes over to play sometimes. Im 21, he's 29, yet he's the one still living with my mom. -_- for shame... he is a marine though.
...dont make him come over there and snap your neck.
<i>Enough people are preferring Burnout over this so it's only a matter of time before these suits get it.</i>
Which explains why GT4 has sold over 7 million copies and Burnout isn't even close. GT4 has been prided over realism for, oh, forever, while Burnout just tries to capture the thrill of crashes. Many people prefer to play GT4 for that reason, and while it's still cool to crash things, the racing in Burnout is pretty abysmal. That and 750 cars, many of which are so important to history and evoltion of cars that kids these days have no idea what is so important about them. Besides, you shouldn't be crashing anyway; that's kinda the point.
Oh yeah, no fucking html tags.
Did Ferrari also make them lower the front of the car? WTF, it's like touching the asphalt... hehe. Assfault.

Yeah, it is dropped, good catch bhive.
There's a simulation market and an arcade market. You can't compare Burnout to Gran Turismo. Apples and oranges, my friend. Still, it would be nice to have some form of damage modeling considering we're supposed to be playing in 4D now. I know Forza 2 is doing it, anyway.
@ bhive01
the ferrari in GTHD is braking, and the weight is transferring forward. the car leans forward when braking heavily, thats why it looks lower. look around the car and you can tell it is approaching a turn. the GTHD pics have cars that are moving versus real life ferraris that are idle.
on the whole damage thing, i thought i remember hearing somewhere (maybe magic box) that Yamauchi said there will be damage modeling. i would rather wait and see them do it right, than the half assed damage modeling in forza and other games. but you all realize what youre asking for, right? i bet GT damage modeling is gonna make the game much harder. if they make damage realistic, then you can total your car on the last lap and get a big DNF.
@ Denki: Gran Turismo was the first big realistic car game so they have name recognition and a history of strong sales. But good luck finding a lot of people that will recommend Gran Turismo 4 -- it was a huge let down for a lot of gamers who are sick of the same thing. I'm saying that body damage is a logical step up, and they need something else to keep us coming back. Enough people will buy it for the prettiness but that won't make it game of the year anymore. They need to innovate
So i'm guessing from reading all these replies that there won't be any damage in GT5?
I want to see ingame footage with the new GFX engine and more than one car. :D Okay, the one car displayed looks good, but it's just one car after all.
And I wouldn't call Gran Turismo a simulation, it's more of a hard-ish arcade racer, unless you're using N1 tires only. GTR2, GTL, rFactor, Race and LfS qualify as sims in my eyes.
All the excuses made up for not including damage are just lame in my eyes, I mean all somewhat proper racing games have it already, even the Race Driver series.
And they better support the clutch and 6 speed gearbox of the Logitech G25 or this is a no go for me.
Exactly. Gran Turismo has been trying to grab the arcade market with their Rally Mode since part 3. At some point the reality of car damage needs to be in this game if it's going to be the best racing simulator. I'm not saying the cars have to explode into 5000 pieces and flip, but I want some deep dents!
How about paint scrapes on the cars for GT? Do they do that? That seems like reasonable inclusion as far as putting in damages go.
Ok all of you nuttchugging fuckwads...I can take it the ignorance surrounding this "game" no more. Kazunori allready said in multiple interviews that GT5 WILL have damage. It has not been done b4 NOT because of car manufacturers saying do not do it. They did said it for the 1st GT when Kaz had to practically beg them to let him put their cars in the game. After the 1st GT sold millions the car companies were beating down his door. The reason (and he says this in the interview) is that he wanted to do it right. The PS1 and PS2 were not capable of producing accurate damage. The PS3 on the other hand...IS more than powerful enough to do the damage like Kaz wants it. So boys and girls the finished GT5 will have damage, online, and of course hundreds of cars. By the way, GTHD is running on an early version of the GT5 engine. Key word here, EARLY. He also said that there will be future updates to the demo b4 GT5 comes out. So, just like Gran Turismo 2000, (remember that one boys and girls?) GTHD will look like dated when the finished GT5 is released. I still remember at E3 2000 when people were saying that the demo for GT2000 was to good to be true...it only had one car on one track at a time...sound familiar? That is all.
Praise be the FSM
Praise be the Beer Volcano
Praise be the Stripper Factory
P.S. If I can find the interview that I mentioned...I will post a link to it...might take a while though...it is more than a year old.

Here is one of the interviews I was refering to...there are more.http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=111653
Here is another one...my work is done.

I downloaded one of the videos of this game in action. Looks like shit apart from the cars looking good and the occasional good detail on the pavement. There's no sense of speed and the motion isn't very nice at all. I understand this is a sort of demo but seriously. PGR3 beats the shit out of this.
Forza 2 FTW!
