GripShift coming to PlayStation Network photo

Sony Online Entertainment has just sent me word that their previously PSP-only title GripShift will get a "re-mix" for the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network. At 60 FPS and in 720p, the game will cost you just $9.99 and feature 4-player online multiplayer. From the release:

WHAT:
GripShift is a re-mix of the award-winning original specially redesigned for e-Distribution (EDI) through the PlayStation Network.  Running at 60fps, GripShift will come to life on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system in unbelievable high-definition at 720p. Featuring totally enhanced HD graphics, refined gameplay and four player online multiplayer for $9.99.

ABOUT GRIPSHIFT:
Digital Download Deluxe: Experience a re-mix of the award-winning original specifically redesigned for e-Distribution through the PlayStation Network.
Original Combination of Genres: Stunt Driving, Platform-Action and Puzzle-Solving genres combine to offer the ultimate driving experience.
Vibrant 3D Environments in HD: Navigate through roller-coaster style tracks and four themed worlds (Desert, Jungle, Ice and Horror) that come alive with brilliant 3D HD graphics at 720p 60fps stunning lighting and dynamic visual effects.
All-new Gameplay and Content: Improved vehicle handling provides more responsive controls while new game content includes 125+ new and re-mixed levels, 25 race tracks, and an enhanced music soundtrack.
Puzzle-like Challenges: Multiple routes, short-cuts, loops, jumps, ramps, power-ups and dangers to avoid will challenge the most skilled drivers.

Hate on the PS3 all you want, but at least we know how much things cost online. None of this points business that Microsoft and Nintendo seem content to push. The game is slated to come out either late this month or in early January.

Honestly, this is the kind of content I'm looking forward to for download. Real games. Real cheap.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited about the VC, but the games so far have been pretty weak IMO. Once they start releasing real classics, then I'll be all about VC. Until then? Not so much.

And yes, the above statement from Sony is ridiculous hyperbole. I mean c'mon...."unbelievable high-definition"? WTF is so unbelievable about high def? Could you possibly mention that it's HD one more time? Have we not been gaming in HD for what, a year now? Ok, but who cares. The point is, I want more new content downloadable and this looks pretty good. A lot of the LIVE arcade is crap and the idea of size limits on arcade games seems a bit restrictive to me as well.
Here's hoping more games like this hit all platforms services.

As for the complaint about "points" vs. dollars. I'll give you that for MS, but when a point equals 1 penny, the prices are essentially already in dollars so there is no ambiguity with the VC pricing.

Still. I want my American capitalist urges quenched. Everything should be in dollars.

Amazingly, this game appears to offer more than Excite Truck and the price is also right. DING!

This looks pretty good -- Gripshift wasn't entirely crap, so this might be worth the $$. Hey MS, upgrade your Live Arcade size cap, jerks.

I was under the impression that the points thing was so you could buy cards at a store. So you would not have to use a credit card.

Well ten dollars is not too shabby for all that, I'm interested to say the least. This seems like a considerable contribution to the downloads on the otherwise meek selection on the Playstation store.

So 1080p is True HD and 720 is 'Unbelievable HD'?

I'm wondering when people are going to realize that the reason Nintendo used a points system is that 1) it would be the only way to have the same pricing system across the world, and 2) they were planning on giving free points to download games when you buy Wii games. That's what they're doing in Europe.

"So 1080p is True HD and 720 is 'Unbelievable HD'?"

My point exactly.
