GRID 2 is headed to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2013

2:30 PM on 08.08.2012

Among the four-letter racing games to come out in the last five years, I never did get around to playing GRID, despite generally liking the work Codemasters does in the genre. We knew a follow-up game was in order, and thankfully, they didn't wait too long to push the full announcement out.

In addition to the debut trailer above, we've kindly been given some blur-filled screenshots as well. GRID 2 is sounding like more of an extension of its predecessor than a drastically new experience, which should be reassuring to fans. As far as specifics go, the sequel will indeed work with the RaceNet community portal and confirmed locations include Chicago, Paris, Abu Dhabi, and Miami.

"The core design philosophy," according to executive producer Clive Moody, "is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama -- the feel and personality of the race."

I only ever played a demo of GRID, but I enjoyed it. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.
Really excited for this. I loved the first game and we've been waiting way too long for a sequel. Especially for me since I was never interested in the DiRT games. It was always frustrating seeing so many sequels in that series while GRID got nothing.
As I said on the last article about GRID 2, I won't be wasting my money on this given how they treated consumers the first time around. Much like EA, as soon as they don't want to pay for servers anymore, they won't, and the entire online functionality was shut off. Glad your $60 was put to good use.

I would say an Online Pass might have helped ensure the survival of the servers, but EA's already proved that's not the case. But knowing Codemasters you'll be getting one anyway.

Have fun with that.
This I look really forward to, the first was great and I've been wanting a sequel for years!

@ctg - The online availability for GRID was never that bad, at least I never had a problem getting an online game in recent times for the pc.
STILL waiting for a Rally game from Codemasters.

Colin McRae 2005 was the last proper game. I want tyres ripping off, limited time to repair damage, and full rallies with consistent damage over the stages, none of this single stage no repair crap.

Yes, I mad bro.
NO IN CAR VIEW, NO SALE!
@ctg

They admit they fucked up with outsourcing the online servers to another company and they don't do that anymore. DiRT 2 is still online and has been out longer than the period of GRiD coming out to closing.

As MS manage the online servers for most games (EA being the main exception as they demand to run their own servers), GRiD continued to work fine on 360 too.
oh my god at last !!! ive waited for this for five years. best multiplat racing game of this generation !!!
This is excellent news. I only prefer GT5 to Grid by a pubic hair. If Grid 2 only improves what they already had my copy of GT5 is gonna get dusty.
Didn't care for Grid all that much, the PC port was blurry crap. Hopefully it's a better game than the first one.
i was loving the first grid, up till the point i had to sit in front of my tv for a 3 hours race. and no matter how hard i tried, i just couldnt keep up with the pc for some reason.. so i never played it again.
FINALLY!!! Been waiting for this ever since I won the final championship series in GRID 1. Cannot wait.
