I would say an Online Pass might have helped ensure the survival of the servers, but EA's already proved that's not the case. But knowing Codemasters you'll be getting one anyway.

@ctg - The online availability for GRID was never that bad, at least I never had a problem getting an online game in recent times for the pc.
Colin McRae 2005 was the last proper game. I want tyres ripping off, limited time to repair damage, and full rallies with consistent damage over the stages, none of this single stage no repair crap.

They admit they fucked up with outsourcing the online servers to another company and they don't do that anymore. DiRT 2 is still online and has been out longer than the period of GRiD coming out to closing.
As MS manage the online servers for most games (EA being the main exception as they demand to run their own servers), GRiD continued to work fine on 360 too.
