Children are like miniature communists. If you have something, they want it too. Especially in a competition, where kids are told that there is no such thing as losing, and everybody's a winner. While this is blatantly not true, Microsoft is acting like a 5-year-old who didn't win a race, claiming it's still the victor ... along with Nintendo, that is.
"We think that we’re one of those industries that consumers are staying in for entertainment," claims Microsoft man Aaron Greenberg. "‘We’, by the way – that’s us and Nintendo. Both the Wii and the Xbox 360 are really the two big winners. Actually, the only two winners right now if you look at holiday sales year over year."
Of course, what that actually means is that Nintendo won, but Microsoft is picking on Sony because if you try and downplay Nintendo's success at this rate, you look like a moron. Bunnyhopping on Nintendo's back and trying to touch the winner's trophy might be obvious, but it's the best MS can do. Of course, Greenberg had other things to say as well, since he so often does.
"We never had a Resident Evil game so we wanted to have that," claims Greenberg, making sure to press the attack on Sony like a Hunter would a straggling Survivor. "We never had Grand Theft Auto day-and-date. We didn’t have Final Fantasy. So we’ve added all the biggest franchises, such as Tekken. These are franchises that were frankly, built on the PlayStation platform. Making sure that we have all those games on our system is important."
Microsoft is doing quite well in marking the Xbox 360 as the PS2 of this generation, and in many ways, the platform holder is right. It has a large and varied library of games, it has shoddy hardware, it appeals to a loyal gamer demographic. The only difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS2 however, is clear -- last gen, the PS2 was the winner.
Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Resistance, Gran Turismo, Ico, and God of War are. Ugh. Tekken I guess is though, but more or less is an arcade game before console game though.
Anyway, what's up with MS? Aren't they satisfied? You can't win 'em all. They do well enough in Xbox and DESTROY Apple as far computer/OS sales go.
"___ is the winner" is something that is thrown around a lot without really knowing what it means.
...
Naw.
Wii is required to be a real gamer.
i fuckng hate corporate microsoft. they just can't shut the fuck up. is nintendo prancing aroud with glee and joy? no! and they have the fucking right to. until microsoft is the true godam winner, they'll just be second, this race isn't over for a few more years and the wii is too high to catch but when sony starts to push the panic button, expect to see the dirty fight really unfold.
this year microsoft hasn't announced anything nearly as well or diverse as the ps3 line-up. i can see a price drop before summer.
No the bit that makes them the 'real gamer' is the PS3 or 360. Wii is what is required to be a douche.
And I disagree about having to own a Wii, I just don't feel it has anything going for it outside of a tiny handful of good games and the horizon looks bleak.
Fun times. I think the guy was joking about having to own a Wii, too.
Carry on, nothing to see here...
We define the winner the same way we have for all previous generations. The console that sell the most systems wins.
There's no room for Wii in my life.
Hopefully, there isn't going to be a 'next generation' for a while yet, and developers can really master these current systems. I think we are a year or two into a new golden age for video games, that will last at least another 3 - 4 years (knocks the table).......
And every day I cry cause the Wii doesn't appeal to me I'm waiting for a real Nintendo console...
That and for Nintendo to stop being lazy cause everytime they mention they listen to hardcore gamers they mention mario and Zelda...
How about growing some balls and launch some new noncasual IP on a yearly basis I think thats the issue...
They have gone stale the only new things they come up with start with Wii.....
IMHO the Wii isn't winning anything I don't get enjoyment if the consoles I own sell well..
I get enjoyment If there are games I wanna play on it...
Ninja out...sorry I sound a little anry I know but Nintendo used to mean something for me the name was magical in my eyes...
And those who say that a particular console is required to be a {negative term, like "douche"} need to look in a mirror. Anyone who feels the need to bash a specific box of electronic circuitry just because of their own intoleance and ignorance is in no position to be calling someone else a {negative term, like "douche"}.
