Microsoft minister of propaganda Aaron Greenberg has high hopes for Kinect, and why wouldn't he with all the advertising money being pumped into it? The executive in charge of corporate demagoguery has declared that Kinect will sell over three million units this Christmas.
“Our key indicators are feedback from retailers -- I think you’d be surprised at how sophisticated they are, and they really have the pulse of the market. They’re looking at preorders, they’re talking to customers,” says Greenberg. "Our estimates that we will sell in excess of 3 million units this holiday."
Greenberg also says that his company is spending "hundreds of millions of dollars" in marketing, with a budget that exceeds that of the original Xbox 360 launch. Of course, Justin "face like a monkey/fish crossbreed" Bieber isn't cheap.
Are you planning on jumping around your house like a fool in front of the TV this Christmas?
Kinect will sell three million units this Christmas, says Greenberg [VG247]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
no but really it'll do OK. but not THAT well.
Just sayin'...
@ Bakewell - check out your history - Microsoft are past masters in spreading FUD about all their competitors. Just because this monkey isn't screeching right now doesn't mean he won't in the future.
If he honestly thinks Kinect will do as well as the Wii then he's sadly mistaken. The Wii is cheap, affordable, and family-friendly. Xbox 360 and Kinect are much more expensive and less marketable (a 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle *without* being able to change the hard drive? Are they joking? I can see Kinect sell a decent amount but not even close to what he's predicting, probably not even half.
It's sad to see Microsoft fall like this.
No, I already did that three years ago.
This guy does clealru his head in the clouds but he doesn't seem like a nasty bastard about it.
This is probably just PR though, but if honestly belives it .......well.
The answer to this is emphatically YES. But, it will having nothing to do with motion controlled video games, and far more to do with copious amounts of booze and the company of strippers... J/K... Umm, no I'm not. ; )
Gotta say project Natal was quite interesting to me, but as they stripped away features and functions to create this cheaper but still expensive Natal product I lost all interest.
Getting Move tomorrow! Whooooo!
It's all about the software, and so far MS is failing pretty hard in that department, it's like the metaphorical tables have done a full 180.
Me and a buddy from work are going down on our lunch to grab Move.
No jumping for me at X-mas not unless my mom gets me that damn trike I've wanted for, like, EVER.
I feel sorry for you dude. I can't help but get the feeling we won't hear much from you soon.
It won't be because you're playing on the move but because you won't be able to cover your disappointment efficiently enough to convince us how little it sucks.
How can it, in your words, suck? The Move has been getting rave responses from the gamers and the gaming blog community. Even in Destructoid, the praise the Move and unfortunately, ridicule the Kinect. So which is the better motion control scheme? I think the gamers can tell.
For me, and I guess for a lot of people, Dance Central is the only interesting thing as it stand now.
The market these gadgets are aimed at don't give a damn about the motion control scheme or the quality of said motion control; lets be honest - it's aimed at the very casual audience - the kind of people hat bought a Wii for Wii fit.
I honestly don't think they'll do very well; and hope they fail miserably, after all the crap Microsoft and Sony threw at the Wii the very fact they're trying their hardest to copy that success [very literally in Sony's case] proves how wrong they were - the only reason there's any hype at all behind either motion control scheme is nearly entirely company made from all the press statements they make. I've not seen anyone [bar the odd comment on here] really state they are really looking forward to the Move or Kinect...
Why would you buy Move to get a different control scheme for games that work fine with a controller [Socom, Heavy Rain, Killzone 3]? Why buy Kinect to jump around like an idiot?
The only viable motion control system is the Wii because every game on the system has been designed with the motion control in mind and thus will continue to have the motion control support for all game. That and it has Super Mario Galazy 2, which, by your standards [you know, the whole "critics opinions are correct when they suit me" thing] is the best game to use motion controls.
the last set of Destructoid Move/Kinect commentary came from Hollie Bennet at Gamescom. It is actually reverse of your claims.
Well, that's just one view. And Move is still well recieved regardless.
actually the guy she was with did not seem to have kind words for the Move. Im not making this shit up. Did you just completely ignore the Destructoid Gamescom blowout?
Of course he did; he's a fanboy, his brain filters out any information he doesn't agree with it.
I have a hunch Kinect is going to sell WAY better than we anticipated, but it's not going to be bought by hardcore gamers. I think it's going to outsell the Move to people like my mom, but I think the hardcore gamers are going to get Move (and therefore it won't move as many units).
That's just my opinion. I am getting neither because I hate motion controls, and both cost almost as much as a Wii, so if I wanted to waggle something I'd just get that (and finally have all three systems).
Move is gonna be good however.
Yes, but there will be no Kinect involved.
We are part of an online community, you won't find a more jaded and cynical bunch than us.
Speaking for myself I don't want you dedicating your time to gently blowing away the smoke from this smoke screen because I know it will reveal the playstation logo, lovingly crafted out of plaster, molded (no less) than various body parts from your good self.
Move is aimed at gamers, specifically those who already have a ps3.
Kinect is indeed aimed at non-gamers, those who bought a wii and unbeknownst to ms, never Fucking play it and probably regret the purchase.
That's a pretty apt description of Kinect. Nice.
