Rumor confirmed! In a recent interview with G4, Green Day: Rock Band project lead Chris Foster revealed that the entire "American Idiot" album would appear in the game.
“We wanted to have the entire 'American Idiot' album in the game. It’s like one album that’s meant to be heard and played as one unit. So you have the ability to do that. It’s the first time we’ve shipped any game with a full album involved in it. And it really fits for Green Day, and we’re really excited about it," he told Abbie Heppe in the interview below.
Considering the way that The Beatles: Rock Band was put together it will be interesting to see how the series handles an entire album, especially one with such powerful themes running through it. If it's just the band playing the every song at the same venue I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

The idea of a whole album right there on the disc is great, but why American Idiot? The is clearly going to be a game for Green Day fans (derp, no shit) but generally amoung the GD fanbase, American Idiot is panned and hated. I can see the appeal to people who barely listen to the band and so probably know American Idiot the best, but those people probably aren't going to be so keen to buy a whole game dedicated to the band anyway. Nimrod or Dookie in their entirity would surely go down better with the people who are going to want a Green Day game.
@Ace Fibble: Dookie is what got me interested in punk rock, though I quickly went for a less-produced sound and got into more early punk and left them behind. American Idiot is probably the first album since Dookie that I can listen to start to finish because I find it to be a well-crafted concept piece.
So, I totally fall into that "barely listen to the band" thing. The Green Day fans can hate it all they want. I'm grateful.
I'm hoping we get some 20th Century Breakdown too.
I used to love old punk Green Day when I was younger, but as I grew up I started to swing toward a more 'Alt. Rock' sound (not to mention some other genres), and I noticed that Green Day started to slowly change with me. Now I prefer most of their newer stuff to their older stuff.
My fav happens to be a song they never play live, never released and will never acknowledge, and that's 'Whatsername'. Such a brilliant use of Power Chords, melodic vocals and great songwriting. It also holds a very special place in my heart due to memories. So you've gotta think of how your comment doesnt really apply to the whole fanbase. Just the ones that are way too serious about music.
Wow, lots of hate for American Idiot. I've had each Green Day album since Dookie, and American Idiot is easily my favorite GD album, and probably among my top 10 albums of all time.
Of course everyone has different taste, but I appreciate the fact that they broke out of their mold after album after album of baby steps in terms of evolution.
@somesthetic: That's like saying getting kicked in the teeth was a little better than getting kicked in the junk.
I am consistently surprised how this game keeps sounding worse and worse. At the same time, I can't really fault Harmonix for wanting to make some mad cheddar selling this piece. It's not like they're forcing people to buy it, so I'll just relax until they bust out RB3 or a spin-off featuring a band worth caring about.
(Would still pick this up if the content from 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was on it or available on DLC. At The Library!)
I do love Green Day, and they were my first concert back in the day but I don't believe this will sell very well. They have an audience but they could have gotten a much better band to dedicate a full game to. I still root for Iron Maiden.
American idiot? Hah. I laugh at you and your American idiot album, which I in no way somehow still enjoy despite the fact that I've had the stick of anti-populism beat me senseless from the age of 12.
I am in no way humming 'She's a rebel' in the back of my head, and I shall in no way purchase this item once it reaches the discounted price of under £15. Because I hate it.
You guys can hate on Green Day all you want, but you need this game to do well or Harmonix will drop the band dedicated game idea, and then you won't get any of the bands you do want (if you don't like Green Day) (I do).
The post is written in very a good manner and it entails many useful information for me. I am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.

Thankfully, METAL STILL LIVES - albeit obscurely, and even then, some metal bands are becoming more poppy.
One hit wonders are cool, but don't add the entire album that nobody cares about.
Can you get any more fucking emo?
CANNOT WAIT!
According to the unconfirmed part of the rumor, Dookie is also in full on the disk. Hopefully it's true. :D

Somehow, Green Day's popularity still baffles me. Of course, I've never really given them a chance since 'Dookie' came out.

"*Pukes* such an awful band. Greenday isn't punk."
Who gives a shit whether they are punk or not? Since when did fitting into a predetermined genre reflect, in any way, a band's quality?
You can dislike Green Day all you want, AND you can say that they are not punk, but one statement does not logically lead to the other.
"You can dislike Green Day all you want, AND you can say that they are not punk, but one statement does not logically lead to the other."
It does if they only listen to punk and nothing else. I mean, it is their opinion. Logic really has nothing to do with it.
I too believe that it's a idiotic way to look at it, but I don't have to live as them, so they can come to whatever conclusions they want.
If you're gonna do a Greenday rockband game do it right damnit!!!

I can't wait to play Dookie in its entirety. I hope I can avoid playing American Idiot entirely.
"You guys can hate on Green Day all you want, but you need this game to do well or Harmonix will drop the band dedicated game idea"
Oh wow, really? In that case I hope nobody buys this game at all.
It's a bloody stupid idea and one of the big factors that has killed the music gaming genre.
Love Green Day, new and old.
