Including American Idiot and, more importantly, Dookie as a part of Green Day: Rock Band makes sense. Those cats at Harmonix? They seem sensible enough. According to a listing for the game on Play.com, we can expect to see both albums in their entirety.
I know not everyone is exactly keen on the idea of Green Day getting its own music game, and I'm right there with you, to an extent. But hell, if it's going to happen, it might as well happen in the best possible way, don't you think?
At the very least -- and if this listing is to be believed -- exporting all of Dookie to Rock Band 2 sounds like a mighty swell time to me.
Green Day: Rock Band track list confirmed? [CVG]

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I don't know if it was a "duh" that the game would include the ENTIRE album, which is what I got from the article. Rock Band Beatles only had full albums via DLC - not with the retail game.
A hose would likely prove too unwieldy, and a wet-vac would probably provide material at a rate far faster than one could easily consume.
Now, Hendrix: Rock Band and Rock Band 3. Show them to me. NOAW!!!
THIS IS THE FIRST STEP TO ROCK BAND: MUSICAL, SINCE AMERICAN IDIOT IS NOW A MUSICAL!! <3 <3
I was kinda hoping HMX would take the plot of American Idiot into account and do some sort of rock opera thing. Probably not but it would be nice. I'd really love to play along with Repo! or Tommy (film version) one of these days.
Plus, wasn't American Idiot supposed to be a damn film eventually anyway? I was waiting for that in my Green Day days.
Trollin' ain't easy.
They changed and sold out which really wasn't a problem for me, Billie Joe could never sing in the first place. It was forgivable for the style of music because most punk even punk lite isn't about being a good singer.
But when they started doing all these acoustic ballads it totally didn't match his crappy vocals, it was and
still is hard to take them
seriously. Good that they tried something different, but it was a pretty meh affair
They haven't gotten even close to Guitar Hero so don't even bother to bring shit like that up. Oh wait, I'm talking to Patriot Snake. I guess I shouldn't expect reason.
What I really really want is Meatloaf : Rockband.
Actually Harmonix are never wrong as they released what is essentially a portable version of Amplitude/Frequency.
Where the fuck have you guys been for the last year? HMX has not been getting any less slack than NSoft did. You're not in any minority nor are you the holy crusader of truthiness.
On another note, I'll probably buy this eventually.
My own wish game is Rock Band: Led Zeppelin but I know it wouldn't happen. Jimmy Page has stated before now he has no interest in it nor would he let the master tapes out of his sight (they've been stolen before).
Now if they brought out a Rock Band Classics with Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Queen, Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, ZZ Top and T-Rex now we're talking :)
That. I'm with you. Because that shit begs for cheap beer, good friends and lowered inhibitions.
My initial rage at this game has abated somewhat after hearing that Hendrix: Rock Band was a thing that will exist in my life sooner than later. Now this game barely registers to me as it's a tiny, insignificant thing compared to the One True Joy that will be Hendrix Rock Band.
"It's something so predictable,
that in the end it's trite."
The only person I ever met who liked this band past Dookie was a fortysomething runner who stopped into a coffee shop I worked at years ago. "They're so good," she told me while taking out her earbuds. I really had to struggle to feign a friendly nod. Ma'am, I thought, I get that we're in St. Paul and you're being quasi-political anti-Bush by listening to them, but for fuck's sake your own generation could shit out political music better than these guys' million dollar producers could triple-polish it.
20th Century got okay in the second half. American Idiot basically did the same. The only thing that saved AI in my mind was they got Kathleen Hanna on it. However once I heard Know Your Enemy the first time and realized they stole the drum beat of my beloved Rebel Girl (also written by Kathleen Hanna) I raged a little bit inside but I managed to make it through the album unscathed although I can't say the same for my little brother.
You gotta remember though that that's all subjective. It's not that people are "Too serious," it's just people really fucking don't like them. I could the same thing about your hatred of Mass Effect in comparison to my love of Mass Effect for the same reasons you like 20th Century and American Idiot.
It's not painfully serious to have standards about the music, books, games, etc... Having been a ecstatic music fan for years that grew up listening to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, The Cars, and countless other talented and creative artists, what the fuck is the point of getting complacent enough to slum about with records that may as well have had SELL-OUT written in neon for the album cover.
@socialnorms
The only people I know who like Green Day are the sheltered and internet-raised 12-year-olds I teach guitar to and their parents (who only care because it makes junior happy), but there's definitely plenty of Gen-X washouts who are pathetically willing to let them fill in the nostalgia void left behind by the Ramones and the Clash.
Then again, my musical tastes have veered me headlong into 'indie' territory ever since I was 13, so I am reflexively disdainful of most mainstream music (only gotten worse with the likes of Taylor Swift and Jonas Brothers).
HIPSTER KID, AWAY!!!

Reminds me of this:
It's what I do.
