Green Day confirms some kind of Rock Band involvement photo

A few weeks ago we reported that the names of a handful of Green Day tracks appeared inside date of the files found on the Rock Band Unplugged UMD. Speaking on KROQ 106.7 FM’s Kevin and Bean’s Breakfast, singer/guitar/songwriter Billy Joe Armstrong has seemingly confirmed the band’s Rock Band involvement.

“Uh yeah, we’re doing a whole Green Day Rock Band…uh,” he said, quite articulately.

While the “whole Green Day Rock Band…uh” could be interpreted as an entirely new retail disc (see also: AC/DC and the potential Pearl Jam project), that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. It’s possible for Harmonix/MTV Games to work with Green Day in promoting a track pack, something I’m sure most fans of the game are pulling for.

Because seriously, another disc-based game? Even if you can import the tracks to your hard drive for play in Rock Band/Rock Band 2, some might say things are starting to look a bit Activision-y. And "Activision-y" isn’t even a word, guys. I had to make that one up just for this story.

We’re likely to find out soon enough; Armstrong says it’ll be available by the end of the year. Hit our original story for a list of potential songs in this "Green Day Rock Band...uh."

I'm going to end up using Activision-y as a word now, thanks to you.

Track pack or a separate disc, I'm indifferent as to how it comes out, they have a few songs I have an interest in playing, I want to play them. Simple as that. Except "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," because that's going to be the second song that I know everyone is going to own. The first song being Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," of course.

Activision-y (adj.)

Marked by the act milking a franchise to the point of physical and mental exhaustion.

Godammit, I'm going to buy Beatles Rock Band because they're a timeless band, Green Day's been around for what? A decade? And they've been relevant for maybe half that time?

Keep the second stringers with maybe a total 30 songs to DLC, Beatles I understand, Metallica too (I kinda wanted more songs on the disc but eh) but seriously, out of all the bands to make full discs out of, Green Day is not one of them.

If they're making a Green Day one why not Nirvana (with zombie Cobain skin!) or The Killer or hell, why not Blink 182, Bloodhound Gang and The Offspring?

Hell it looks like we're just going for what the tweens these days seem to love, so let's make a Angels and Airwaves disc! OMG; ROCK BAND INDIE TRACK PACK.

Jesus, sales will skyrocket.

Nerd raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage.

This makes me incredibly sad. I was actually really pro Rock Band because they didn't go the Guitar Hero route (milking bands until their teats hurt.) They were sticking to their roots of having a good base game that the end user can customize with their choice of music through DLC.

As soon as I saw Lego Rock Band, I unplugged my plastic Stratocaster and put in the closet for good.

A band who sucked themselves out of existence and made a comeback with a concept album based on the original idea that "Bush is kinda a dick" to sell to a bunch of 14 year olds confirmed for Brawl.

They sucked after Dookie. If they make a rock band game based off Kerplunk, I'm sold.

I highly doubt there is going to be a Green Day: Rock Band game considering how long it took Harmonix to develop The Beatles: Rock Band, plus there haven'y been many Green Day landmarks (not talking about albums, here) to warrant a tour of their entire career.

I'm almost positive Billy is talking about a track pack or some other nonsense.

Seriously, Green Day is alright but they're not good enough to have a dedicated RB title.

When Nick says "entirely new retail disc," he does not mean something on the level of The Beatles: Rock Band. He's referring to the AC/DC Live expansion pack (and says so right in the article), which was released like that exclusively at Wal-Mart because AC/DC are dicks about how their music is sold. Unlike AC/DC, which believes that you have to buy a full album to appreciate the music, Green Day are perfectly fine with releasing songs digitally via iTunes, letting you pick and choose, so there's a good chance it's just DLC. This isn't the first time a band has "confirmed" their own version of Rock Band, not realizing how gamers will overreact until it's confirmed as DLC.

And even if it is a retail release, a track pack on disc? Oh well, the price will end up being about as much money as the DLC will be, and you can export the songs to your hard drive! And maybe try going for a few extra achievements with the disc you bought! The horror!

YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

@Brlito I hope you're talking about the first half of their career.

I'd buy Dookie in a heartbeat. The rest, no thanks.

More talent will be required to play Green Day songs on Rock Band easy mode than to actually play Green Day songs on a real guitar.

@ Brlito - A decade!? try 24 years. They formed in '87 brother, so they have been an actual band longer than The Beatles themselves. I welcome Green Day to Rock Band! Bring it!

What PappaDukes said.

I don't care how this is being released I'm just happy that Green Day will finally be on Rock Band and I'll be picking this up whether it's DLC or a retail disk.

Yes yes. I was a big fan of even their least-liked albums (Nimrod and Warning), so I'm very excited about getting to play some of my favorite tracks in RB. I was glad to see "She" and "Nice Guys Finish Last" on there.
