Great, Japan's economy also sucks photo

[As originally posted on Japanator]

We are now one step closer to unified suckage of the world's economic powers with Japan now officially in a recession. Wait: Japan, didn't you just do this like 7 years ago?

First it was some European nations, then Japan, and now the US is expected to be next.

"The downtrend in the economy will continue for the time being as global growth slows," said Japanese Economy Minister Kaoru Yosano. "We need to bear in mind that economic conditions could worsen further as the US and European financial crisis deepens, worries of economic downturn heighten and stock and foreign exchange markets make big swings."

What really sucks is that Japan was going through its longest period of economic growth until the sh*t hit the sub-prime fan last year. The last recession they went through was mostly self-inflicted, but this time around the world's consumers are messing things up everywhere. And for Japan, most of the issue lies with decreased demand of their culture and products.

BBC confirms that the global economic climate has slowed down the demand for Japanese exports. And here I was, thinking I was helping by visiting the little island country, buying otaku goods and videogames and the like.

I'd import some Japanese games! First off, they need to let me ship Sakura Taisen out of Amazon.jp! Then they need to release The Last Remnant on PS3! Come on Japan, we'll demand if you'll supply!

I find it ironic one of the most hard-working countries on the world is suffering the economic bucket kick.

Well Brazil, Russia, India, China, its time to show the world what you are made of.

Comment NVGR:

Yes, whormongr, Canada is pretty f*cked at the moment. Especially in Saskatchewan (represent). My dad owns a log hauling company, and his business just went under a few days ago because most of his wood gets sold to the states for greedy Americans to use to build their multi-million dollar homes. No one wants to buy our wood anymore because everyone is too poor and took out too big of mortgages for their houses, and now they can't pay them off.

Well, look at the bright side....

.......Nintendomination!!!!

I hope this means the end of the $400 and $600 consoles.

The Wii, DS and recession have saved the Gaming Industry from itself.

-Nintendo said no to DLC!!!

-Nintendo said no to patches!!!

-Nintendo said no to $60 games!!!

-Nintendo said no to Hard Drives!!!

-Nintendo said no to multiple SKUs!!!

-Nintendo said no to $600 or $400 console launch pricing!!!

Hoping the Gaming Industry will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes following this recession.

@garison sorry to hear that - totally sucks- though I have to say that not all of us are greedy- nor can we afford to buy a home at all- though where I live (san francisco) pretty much every home is a multi million dollar home because jackass speculators and rich real estate investors bought everything up and jacked the prices so high that no one can afford a home here- If I want to own a home at some point I will probably have to leave my city behind- which is sad since I have lived here for around 20 years. People in the system keep talking about trying to stabilize housing prices, but as it is if the prices don't drop people just plain and simple don't have the $ to own anything, it is unrealistic to think that a middle income can afford $3500++ in mortgage a month since that is less than the average person takes home.

whoremongr: I didn't meant that all Americans are greedy, I just meant the ones that think they have the money to blow it all on shit they can't affort. Hell, most Dtoiders are American, so there must be a few cool ones out there, right?

Ya, my whole sad story does not really affect me, since I am pretty much a workaholic at my job right now, so I can afford to go to Japan next year, and still buy all the games I want to play.

What do you mean, "the US is expected next"? The US was the country that precipitated the current global recession.

@faultymoose

I guess you missed out on Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Paper Mario, Twlight Princes, Metroid Prime 3 and Brawl.

But yeah, besides those Nintendo has been "shit" right?

Compared to Bungie, which have released a whole 3 good games (Halo 1, 2, and 3) since 2001 on top their already "great" pedigree (Marathon, Myth, and Oni since 1994), Nintendo has released only a mere 7 good games (Wii Sports, Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii) and a couple of decent games like Mario Strikers Charged and Super Mario Sluggers.

Yeah, Nintendo has so been slacking compared to Bungie. Nintendo's lineup can't compare to the floodgates that Bungie has /sarcasm

can't blame it all on bush.

but on the subject of that one last stink nugget to tip the balance of things to the global pit of dung we are in now ... blame the people who don't have money and want to buy things they can't afford. blame the people who lie and tell them they can buy all those things and that it is totally within their means.

yeah bush is gonna be remembered in history as THE GUY who contributed the most to the global suckfest that is now everyones reality, but on the bright side...

we can play LEFT 4 DEAD TOMORROW am I right??? oooooooooo ya can't wait to slaughter me some zombies.

if anyone knows any high-end bankers or mortgage brokers then please punch them in the face for me.

and as garison said, the US sub-prime mortgage lenders are who has caused this whole sorry shebang. We were fine in the UK until our banks pissed their pants about the state of the US credit lenders and decided to stop mortgaging their own customers. 12 months on and our housing, and building industries are fecked.

Suppose I'd better say something games related...

-Nintendo said no to DLC!!!

How is adding on to a current game you like bad? Nobody forces you to buy that stuff, it's only stuff that you, in theory, want. EA is the lone exception, with it's high price's on sometimes ridiculous content... and here's the solution: You don't buy it.

-Nintendo said no to patches!!!

I bet Nintendo wish they could patch Zelda, so everyone couldn't, in 2 minutes, install the homebrew channel. Treated. Again, patching is not ALWAYS a bad thing. I in no way support releasing games before they're done and having the dev promise to "patch it later," but nine times out of ten it's usually related to balance in an online game, lag or server issues. Something Nintendo doesn't do... because Nintendo doesn't even understand what people want out of an online game.

-Nintendo said no to $60 games!!!

Gamecube games were online 50 bucks to start with, why would the Wii be any different? On top of whihc, yeah, lower price games are great. Fantastic 20 dollar releases like WWII Aces, and Game Party. Boy, that isn't crap shovelware, that's for sure.

-Nintendo said no to Hard Drives!!!

How is this a good thing? At all?

-Nintendo said no to multiple SKUs!!!

Again, not a bad thing. If someone isn't gonna use all the stuff in the premium 360 console, then hey, buy the 200 dollar one. The choice is with the consumer. That's what they want.

-Nintendo said no to $600 or $400 console launch pricing!!!

Of course they did, they didn't need too. The tech in the Wii is ancient compared to the 360 and PS3, they were selling for a profit even at the 250 price point.

Also, Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Paper Mario, Twlight Princes, Metroid Prime 3 and Brawl were all great... when they were released. How's this holiday line up looking for ya? Enjoy your Wii music and gimped version of Call of Duty.

Oh and Game Party 2. Don't go and have to much fun now.

@garison I totally hear you- there certainly are wayyy too many people that spend way beyond their means here- kind of makes me glad I never had any money growing up, so I learned the value of it early on-

@swiftly all of the people I know in real estate are unemployed right now, so a punch in the face would be a little mean, but having worked in finance before I switched to legal tech I can say with confidence that anyone who worked in the field as a profession really had to check their morals in at the door, the world of investment banking really does stink of things that need to be wiped clean.

I might be the only person who's happy about all of this....because of all the money madness the Korean Won is really weak, I'm planning on getting a new console for about $100 cheaper than in the States this Christmas over here

Everything is coming to shit right now, even here in Latin America we dont have a market for ower things that you guys use to make shinny things...

Im saying this: they were not the banks fault (some investment banks had a big role, but not all of the banks, not even close), it was the US consumer, you guys did as you were told, bought more than you could afford, families buying a car thats worth what they earn per year.... is stupid to blame banks. Debt, debt and more debt.
Over here noone is going to give you a loan so who cares.

lubczyk:

Firstly, what the hell with the Bungie shit? I hate Halo. Halo 1 was okay, with the same three levels repeated over and over and over again. Halo 1.2 and 1.3 are just more of the same overhyped crap.

Also -

Wii Sports - LOL

Mario Kart Wii - LOL

Metroid Prime 3 - Not bad, Prime original and Echoes were both better

Super Paper Mario - Meh.

Twlight Princess - There hasn't been a 'great' Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. TP is okay though.

Brawl - Fun for 10 minutes.

Super Mario Galaxy - The only truely amazing game on the console.

But sure, Nintendownsyndrome is awesome!
