Gravity be damned: Just Cause 2 details surface photo

Avalanche Studios is bringing Rico Rodriguez back for more gravity-defying action with a sequel to its free-roaming third-person shooter, Just Cause. In an interview with CVG, Just Cause 2's lead designer Peter Johansson talks about what we can expect from the game:

"We identified the key areas we wanted to improve for Just Cause 2. We wanted to make better use of our huge game world, enhance the stunts, improve the combat and reward exploration more."
One of the biggest draws to Just Cause was the setting, and wouldn't you know it, Just Cause 2 is going to take place on a tropical island -- except this time around it's located in South East Asia. And because you can't have a game like Just Cause and not include an evil dictator somewhere in the plot, players will have a new enemy in their sights: "Baby Panay." How utterly ridiculous.

While I never ended up purchasing the original Just Cause (the demo was enough, thanks), I'm going to go out on a limb and say that side-missions weren't one of the game's strongest points. What makes me say that? For starters, Johansson had this to say about the sequel: "the side-missions are out. You'll begin the game with nothing but your Cuban heels and a winning smile."

Sounds good to me. Just Cause 2 has only been announced for PlayStation 3 at this point, but I wouldn't be terribly shocked if it makes its way to Xbox 360 and PC as well.

I think the bring up an important question, which will be more repetitive Just Cause 2 or Assassin's Creed 2?

Let's hope this one is better. The original Just Cause was one of the worst games I've ever played.

@ Arrested Developer -- have you played Work Time Fun on the PSP? Most intentionally repetitive game of the year, bar none

I, too, played the demo and had my fill. Not a terrible idea, just really poor execution.

I really liked the demo. Kinda like GTA, but with more shooting and acrobatics. I'll probably pick it up on Ebay sometime. This looks even better.

I bought that game for $10 bucks and it sucked even at that price.

Hey Peter Johansson,

fix the GD controls!!! It was the number 1 reason why I didn't even bother to finish the original.

@spykron - depends on your sense of humor. my biggest complaint is that you can't access their entire library of weird games at once (unless I did something wrong) but yeah, the minigames range from utterly mundane to hilariously bizarre

long time reader first time poster, hi everyone im chief blaze bla bla bla, thanks for having me.

ive been gaming 20+ years and no longer have months of time to invest in gaming. I played the Just Cause demo on PC sometime ago, it was decent. Picked up a 360 a little less than a year ago and bought Just Cause and I must say once you get over a few things/glitches the game is pretty enjoyable and can be picked up for $15 at EB.

The first one sucked! The fact that this game is coming to the PS3 is actually BAD news for Sony. ;) Zat was... teh joke...

The guy in the screenshot is doing it wrong. You're supposed to be inside the helicopter.

Of course it's not, there's no such thing as a "PS3 exclusive." It's as much a myth as the vampicorn.

Hated the demo, the controls were shitty, and it came out around the same time as crackdown which raped it with no vaseline.

What a coincidence, I was just playing this yesterday. It's always good to fly as high as possible after shooting a grappling hook at a near by helicopter and sky dive for a good five minutes, relaxing.

It was a strange game cause it was kinda crappy but it was still a good bit of fun to be had. The side missions got a bit repetitive after a while seeing as you were doing basically the same thing but it was pretty decent despite its problems.

PS- It came out about 5 months before Crackdown. I wouldn't count that as "around the same time"

The demo was enough to make me never want to play another Just Cause game again. Ever. No matter how tropical it gets.
